After leaving Doc Fey to work out details with ARU, Casela found her way down to engineering looking for Lt. Hampton. The man was distrustful, but she shrugged so was everyone else on this ship. She walked towards him, “Lt. Hampton, if you have a moment,” and she meant it. Engineering was way over worked, but she wanted his expert opinion.(assuming he says yes if not void)
“I was hoping to get your expert opinion. The report indicates that something is causing the crew to experience head trauma of some sort. I’ve searched the medical and psychological databases, but I haven’t found anything to make a definitive guess as to what is causing it. An RTF team will be dispatched to the Einstein to locate and contain this…whatever it is. The only records we have been able to obtain is that it sends out a signal oscillated between 0.5 and 4 hertz. Is there anything we can replicate, or create to protect the team from that signal. Hopefully protecting them, even temporarily, from the signal? Give them a little extra time to do their jobs?”

Hampton was working at an engineering station with his back to Casela as she walked in. Upon hearing her voice directed towards him he did not turn to face her but rather continued working and looking down at the console in front of him. “What do you want?” he responded simply and unemotionally. Upon listening to the lieutenant’s request Hampton swiveled in his chair to face her, a scowl spread across his face. “Well unfortunately for you and the people on your side of the fence, it seems the RTF does not value me enough to give me any of these reports you speak of, Frankly I have no idea what you are talking about because nobody on this ship seems to feel that I need to know.” He swiveled back to his console. “I’m not going to be the RTF’s private mechanic to do their job for them. If you want help, get one of your secret agent buddies, this ship is crawling with them. I’m not going to bend over backwards to help people who don’t show me any respect and are intent on keeping me in the dark lieutenant. If my help is truly desired, I need those reports that have been deemed classified.” Hampton let off a scoff upon completing his sentence. He had no time to help the RTF, let alone desire.

Casela bit back a smartass remark. Hampton was brilliant and it was rather stupid that no one gave him clearance. And she was not going over to that ship, risking her life, if they could prevent it. She swore to herself. She walked over to his console tapped the screen and pulled up the transmission from the Admiral making sure he could see that she had not needed to use any ‘secret access code’ to do it. “This report, Lt. was not classified and it was shared by the captain at the staff meeting. So I’m not sure what classified documents you are talking about, but I was referring to this.” She as much as…well Hampton hated the intrigue, and secrets, but really. She didn’t have time for petty power plays. “Specifically this part of the report.” She pulled up the information on the oscillating signal. “So Hampton, now you know as much as I do.” She turned to stare him right in the eye, she wanted no question later on. “I am NOT RTF. I might be ordered work with them, but I am NOT one of them. I’ll be a cold, dead, disintegrated pile of dust first. Now I came to ask you, not because I expect you to be anyone’s lackey, but you’re the best. If you can’t or won’t do it, say so and I’ll leave you alone.”
