John was in the process of making himself at home in his lab. It was going to take a little getting used to the internal airlock. It was no comfort to him to know that in an emergency situation the whole lab could either be jettisoned or opened up to space. The airlock’s primary function was to serve as a decontamination chamber designed to protect the rest of the ship. Having planted the suggestion that the Captain could visit the lab, John wondered how long it would be before he did.John was in the process of making the desk space in the small, but private office his own. He had not had his own space since he had served as the Vikings CMO.
A small frame contained a pair of pictures. One contained a picture of John as a child with his father and uncle. His relatives were identical twins and at the time that the picture was taken they both looked almost identical to how John looked now. The other showed an image of John as a young man standing shoulder to shoulder with a slightly younger blue eyed Japanese man with bright lilac hair. The back drop was a peaceful beach with the sun setting of the calm blue waters.
John gazed at the photo. He loved Reira but that was exactly why he stayed away from the younger man…

Several minutes later, the Commander’s chime did ring, but it was not from the captain. William Hampton stood at the lab door, waiting to be allowed in. The Chief Engineer’s reasoning for paying the man a visit was two-fold. One, he wanted to get some information about the kind of anomalies he would be working with from a so called expert. Two, he wanted to know how much of a threat the man posed to the ship, and what kind of individual the researcher was, it also couldn’t hurt to take a look at his lab.

Seeing on the console that the visitor was not the Captain, McHarrie turned on the privacy field around the workbench on. The transparent shield that would protect the worker from coming to harm faded to an translucent white that only showed a vague blue outline where the corpse of the 50 cm tall being that McHarrie had brought aboard lay.
McHarrie made his way to greet the visitor when the inner airlock doors parted.

As the doors parted, Hampton stepped through them with his lips turned upward into a small smile. “Hello Mr. McHarrie.” He said, holding up his open hand. I’m William Hampton. Leviathan’s Chief Engineer, I hope haven’t caught you at a bad time.” His eyes scanned the room, looking about the lab, as he tried to make out any thing that looked out of place or out of the ordinary, it would seem that he wasn’t going to be the only one on the ship with his own private lab.

“There’s no such thing as a bad timing in my line of work,” John said as he shook Hampton’s. He then led the way to the office area.
“Is there anything I can help you with?” he asked.

“I’m glad to hear that.” Hampton responded. He looked around and continued examining the office. “I was just coming back to ask a little about your line of work, as you will be researching the anomalies I have to contain.” He stopped strolling around the lab and turned to McHarrie. “I guess I want to know what is your line of work exactly?”

“The type that would warrant ejecting this module and the occupants into space if in the event,” John said, “We work with extremely dangerous extension level threats in here as a general rule. But don’t worry. Even we know to leave Regulan Bloodworms alone.”
