(snip)

Casela wasn’t sure where she was anymore. Her whole body relaxed and she threaded her fingers with Ryder’s her other hand wrapping around his neck, pulling him closer. All she really wanted to do was stay right there kissing him. She felt like she was exploding. She really didn’t know how long they stayed like that, lost in the feel of each other. She would have happily stayed right there and not moved, until his hand skimmed her ribs, that were cracked. “What the…!” She came up off the floor throwing him off. She pressed a hand to her side to help stop the throbbing. She looked around, her eyes glazed, not really registering where she was at first. “Ryder?” she whispered. Her lips swollen from more than that mean left elbow he’d given her. She looked over at him, breathing hard, and really confused.
Lt. Synthi-er

“You used my first name,” He said trying to bring but his lips were cracked and bloody. He was pretty sure he was missing one of his front teeth but didn’t dare confirm it. The realization for everything that had happened, their tension, fighting, and then their embrace which out of everything made the most sense. “We should get cleaned up before someone walks in” Ryder was avoiding the question on his lips and from how she looked at him her as well. “Come on.” He stood clutching his side and groaned before limping to her and putting out a bruised and swollen hand.

Of course she had used his first name. You don’t kiss someone, like they had been, and use rank. Did you? She really had no idea and no experience. Casela looked at his hand. She was coward. She didn’t realize that till right that second. If she took his hand she was afraid he’d kiss her again, and even more afraid that he wouldn’t.

She took his hand anyway and stood up. A hand pressed firmly to her ribs. She walked stiff legged to her bag. She took out two towels and walked one back over to him. She couldn’t quite look him in the eye. “Stay here, Ryder, just for a moment. Please?”

Ryder hadn’t even the chance to respond before she had disappeared from view and out of the holodeck, he wondered if kissing her had caused her to bolt and that the next thing he would hear is an unauthorized launch from the shuttle bay but he trusted her and so he waited patiently with nothing but the sound of the ship, his own lumbered breathing and the pain that came with it.

She slipped silently out of the training holodeck. Unseen movement one of her better skills. She slipped down the corridor and was back in the holodeck in a few moments with a medkit. “Here. No one will think twice about the crazy counselor getting herself hurt. Not so good for the XO.” The medkit had a dermal regenerator, pain medication, and a tricorder and several other things. “I’m pretty good with the kit, I can help…” she was so embarrassed, more she was suddenly…shy? It was a very strange thing to her. If Ryder was paying attention he would see she was blushing and still wouldn’t quite look at him. “If you need help that is. I have to go report…to…Cpt. Manhattan.” She left the kit with him, grabbed her bag and left as quickly as her bruised body would let her.

The foggy gaze that had always come when Casela was around had lifted and now she fully had his attention so her rosy cheeks didn’t escape him however he decided not to say anything or give away that he knew. “I can fix myself, go report to the good Captain and” he chuckled before bending over clutching his side, “Try and explain this away with him, I don’t think the age of excuse of walking into the door will quite cut it.”

  • Commander Ryder, XO

The idea of her walking into a door and hurting herself was absurd. “Walk into a door? Are you serious? Do people actually believe that…” her voice dropped off. Yes some people did, and it infuriated her. Haunted memories coming to surface. She straightens up suppressing a groan and ignoring the pain in her side. I am too old for this crap now. “I don’t have to tell him anything. What I do on my time is non of his business.” As he bends over favoring his side she shakes her head, quickly sizes him up and puts the correct dosage for a mild muscle relaxer along with something for pain in the hypo. “Here,” she administers it quickly. “Like I said, it’s no good for the XO to go walking around all beat up. You can lock the door to the holosuite after I leave.” She still wouldn’t look at him, but she had to get going.
