One of the things about being part of a crew was the requirement for boarding evaluations from both a counsellor and a doctor. As a doctor himself, he had carried out many medical evaluations so had no apprehension about that. The psych evaluation was always a difficult challenge for a Section 31 operative to pass, especially with a counsellor that was empathic or telepathic. That said, John was nervous for another reason on this particular occasion.
In his data pack about the crew that Section 31 had provided, he saw that Lieutenant Synthi-er was also Section 31. It did not surprise John that he was not the only operative on a ship like the Leviathan. It did surprise him to have been made aware of another’s identity. Either the section did not trust her or they were expected to work together on whatever their assignment was.
Because of the deliberate leak for the Captain’s benefit, he also suspected she would know he was 31 whether she was supposed to or not.
And so so the young Welsh man found himself outside of the CNS office taking a deep breath to prepare himself for whatever the evaluation would bring before pressing the chime…

Casela heard the chime and looked at her schedule. Oh Yes.John McHarrie. ANOTHER S31 opperative. “Come in.”
Her office was on the counseling deck.
(A WHOLE deck. Oh the torture she could inflect there. She laughed, a little disturbingly, (and all for effect). With the work that was going to be going on with this ship, she would have to stay on top of evaluations. She even had a staff! Or she would. The number of people on board this ship was staggering. She foresaw a LOT training simulations going on here. She wondered if she could get the CO’s approval for ‘surprise’ holodeck simulations. Kidnappings, boardings, losing crew mates. All simulation of course, but it would really test the mental resolve of the crew and make them stronger for having faced it before it happened. She took the time to wander the deck, peeking into each of the areas and getting a feel for the potential of the department.)
In her office there were no pictures. Her educational credentials went up on the wall. She may lack rank, but not the training, and not the experience. There was a small shelf next to her desk, that was away from prying fingers. Several small items went onto that shelf that had significant meaning to her, but the wise would never ask her about them. Next were her weapons. So. Many. Weapons. Unless you knew what you were looking for, you’d never see them, but Casela was Never comfortable unless she had a weapon within hands reach. Most were bladed, some were blunt, and some were unique. If McHarrie had read her file, he would notice she was without her usual arsenol of weapons strapped to her uniform. If he was worth his weight to S31 he would know her office was a treasure trove of hidden items.
After McHarrie entered and the door shut Casela raised a brow, so reminiscence of her teacher. “Well Mr. McHarrie. Which should we get out of the way first? Your mental fitness for duty on this nightmare of a ship, or the posturing so often found when operatives are thrown together without warning?”
LT. Synthi-er
Direct and to the point. McHarrie liked the quality. He surmised that they were to be working together.
“Take your pick,” he said Casually as he glanced around the room. As expected he saw many items the he identified as weapons and more that given what he had read that were even though he wouldn’t have know how to use them. John was unarmed. He was acutely aware that he wanted to keep his desire to leave the Section to himself which he knew even by thinking it there was a chance he had given it away.
“I must admit that from what I have read,I admire your work and like your style. Reminds me of a former operative that I had the pleasure of working with recently. My Uncle marooned him on a Romulan world. Me, I just dropped him back where I found him so he’d be picked and locked up again,” he said, “Please call me John. A real Lieutenant Commander would have earned that rank by himself without the Section’s influence.”
He didn’t doubt that she would be aware that he was trying to appeal to her nature. He definitely had got the point to avoid her long sharp lessons, but from what he saw, the blunt ones would be just as painful.
