One of the things about being part of a crew was the requirement for boarding evaluations from both a counsellor and a doctor. As a doctor himself, he had carried out many medical evaluations so had no apprehension about that.

The psych evaluation was always a difficult challenge for a Section 31 operative to pass, especially with a counsellor that was empathic or telepathic. That said, John was nervous for another reason on this particular occasion.

In his data pack about the crew that Section 31 had provided, he saw that Lieutenant Synthi-er was also Section 31. It did not surprise John that he was not the only operative on a ship like the Leviathan. It did surprise him to have been made aware of another’s identity. Either the section did not trust her or they were expected to work together on whatever their assignment was.

Because of the deliberate leak for the Captain’s benefit, he also suspected she would know he was 31 whether she was supposed to or not.

And so so the young Welsh man found himself outside of the CNS office taking a deep breath to prepare himself for whatever the evaluation would bring before pressing the chime…
