“Did you have that speech prepared or are you just a natural inspirational speaker?” He teased finding the words filled with wisdom and noted them for perhaps to be used later by himself. “So what brought you to the Leviathan? It’s not something anyone can force you into, I’ve heard it all since meeting the new crew as they arrived. Some scary some not so scary.” Ryder was sure to have nightmares for the next few weeks, and that was just from meeting the crew, the Counsellor was going to have her hands full.

“From time to time, inspiration does hit, Sir. As to why I’m here… I have a feeling I defeated the CO of Starbase 227 just once too many times in hand to hand and he suggested me for COS here just to get rid of me. The job sounds more interesting then overseeing shift rotation on a starbase where nothing much happens.... so I accepted.”

It might have been a fact, that Andrea wasn’t really fully aware just what she has gotten herself involved into. But she was eager to learn and prove herself to the command.

Lt. Andrea Stone, CE

“Well, I think we’re both going to be in for quite the shock when it comes to our first retrieval mission, having been reading up on the previous missions undertaken by some of the other ships in the fleet nine times out of ten something goes wrong, or the ship blows up.” The Trill XO chuckled nervously. “It’s good to know however we’ll have a good security officer leading the charge with our security. Just don’t beat too many of the new crew, I want to try and keep them”

“I wouldn’t worry about that. Only those overconfident in their abilities ever had trouble with me. And when you show them they aren’t some big hot shots… well sometimes their ego takes it hard. Having a big ego can lead to trouble… specially what we’re setting up to do. Do you really want to have people like that in your ranks?”

A little confidence never hurt. She wondered about his comment about previous missions. She hasn’t read much about them but made a small mental note to read up on that and to see what went wrong. It’s always better to learn from mistakes others made, then making your own.

He shook his head with a smile,” No I guess I wouldn’t want that either” Truth was she was damned right, Starfleet had its fair share of over egotistical fleet officers which in part is what made RTF so appealing, it did the job and took none of the credit. Nine times out of ten noone knew they were there or even saved a ship, planet or solar system. They were the unsung heroes of Starfleet.

“Its certainly has been an enlightening talk Lieutenant Stone.” He paused and then added “Do you prefer Lieutenant, Lieutenant Stone, Miss Stone or something else? I like to promote a relaxed environment where and when possible, especially when our job needs us to be so highly strung most of the time. For me it’s Ryder”

“I’ll try. I’m used to call my superiors by their rank. Just Stone is quite alright with me.” She replied and gave a little smile. Perhaps it was the security job, that required a bit more bossing around. While on the job, she always felt rank helped a little, to let others know who was in charge and gave out orders. Privately of course only first or last names were used.

“Thanks for seeking me out, so I didn’t have to go look for you. I know there are still a lot of things to prepair before we can depart, and you must be quite busy.”

She just got on board as well, still needed to do check ups, store hear gear, look over crew rooster and more. And it all had to be done before they could set sail.

“Surprisingly not as busy at some people think, that said I do have some errands tor un so I will leave you in peace while your settle in” Ryder gave her a parting smile and nod, before adding “It was good to see you Stone, I hope to see you around.” With that, he turned around his hands behind his back before stepping off and towards the exit.

“Bye.” Andrea waved, even though he already was out the door. She returned to inspecting her new office and the gear she brought with her. She had no doubt, that she’ll be seeing the XO around a lot.
