USS Leviathan
Pre-Sim The New Home
It was a letter on the desk. Not a PaDD notice, not an Admiral, a written paper letter that made Erve get in touch with RTF, a branch of Starfleet involved with ARU. It started like this:
“Mr. Manhattan,” pause “This is not a joke, nor an attempt to make fun of your persona. I am the director of the actual Recovery Task Force and the Chief of the main Task Force. We’ve contacted you to inform about a Starfleet proposal to hire you as the Recovery Coordinator Officer of Task Force 04. As it is essential to maintain secrecy, an agent was sent in the Academy under the name of [REDACTED]. Meet him this afternoon behind the basketball court at the following coordinates [REDACTED].
Your skills are required to fulfill the most recent assignation of the new flagship, the USS Leviathan.
Meeting is at 1600 hours, be in time.”
Then some centimeters of space separated the ending from the whole text. An alpha-numeric code was below the names and it was asked to use it to verify the existence of such Unit.
At a first glance, Erve was skeptic about the RTF. He did not even believe that it was something real, not until he checked the code and Erve was suddenly pushed by an invisible force that took him behind the accorded place. There, a man with a mask awaited the Instructor. They did not agreed on anything, he just pulled hims apart and suddenly a feeling of tiredness and sleepiness overcame Erve. It was evident that he was drugged.
46 hours have passed and finally he was awake “Welcome to the RTF homebase, Mr. Manhattan.” Said a shadowed figure whose voice was more like a feminine one “For the next 4 months you’ll be passing through an intensive training and take command of the RTF unit of the Task-Force 04. Take these clothes, and let’s get started.” The clothes were black, made of some weird soft and rough tissue. It had few greenish strips running along the sides and a triangular patch was sewed into the shoulder. It was surely something made by hand and not replicated. Too imperfect to be generated by a computer matrix.
For 4 months the Erve passed indeed the intense training. He knew that the experience he was passing wasn’t nothing but standard Starfleet affairs. He did not asked anything while at the RTF Academy, but in his depth he had fun and started really to dedicate himself to the Recovery of anomalies.
The Fifth month it was the graduation. Having passed all Command exams without making not even a single error, he was then promoted to Marine Captain rank. The badges and the pips were more silver than goldish and far more heavier. Now he was ready, now he was going to be working for what he started to consider his new job.
After several weeks the graduation ceremony, he was boarded into a shuttle and was taken far far away. Indeed the journey did took over 3 weeks, turning starboard then port, again starboard, up, down, slightly left and slightly right. But the effort and the patience were then payed with the amazing view of this place: Starbase 237. Just docked at the second docking port of the upper ring was the Leviathan, the ship where he would have passed the next years to come catching things that no Normal Officers have ever saw before.
“Hello, new home. Nice to meet you.”
