After getting her boarding evals sorted and settled Mac headed to the intelligence office to check in with her head of department. She hadn’t interacted with the Chief intelligence beyond just seeing them in passing previously so she really had no idea of what to expect from the meeting.

The Intelligence offices were stationed on deck 29 with their Security cousins. The offices themselves were just a medium-sized room with various workstations and a central console for discussions, a small briefing room through one door, a lavatory and the door to the CIO’s personal office.

The CIO’s office was sparsely decorated, with a small shelf next to the desk with a handful of books, mostly focused on advanced space combat tactics or philosophy. Behind the desk sat a rather short human man with dark brown hair and a neatly trimmed red beard. He looked to be in his fifties, his expression was best described as wooden, not someone who made many expressions. He wore the standard yellow duty uniform with two and a half pips on his collar “Lieutenant Kindle, be seated” His voice was deeper than most expected, a rich baritone, calm and flat.

Mac sat down and offered her new head of department a smile. “Good morning Sir.” she said without any additional cheekiness. She would save that for when she was certain it wouldn’t get herself into too much trouble. Or she would save it for off duty or when she felt it truly justified.

Adam sat for a full minute just looking at the Lieutenant before nodding, “Good morning Lieutenant” He spoke in a fairly non-specific Nordic accent “Why did you choose Intelligence?” He asked

Mac debated a moment before she figured being completely honest with this person was a good idea. “I enjoy finding things out. I like the different types of challenges that comes with our work and I never give up on a problem until it’s solved.” She said lightly as she looked up at him.

Adam didn’t nod or really acknowledge her answer; he remained perfectly still as he stared at her “You got into the Academy early, then left after only two years to pursue further education” He seemed to either have memorised her file or read it recently “Your pre-return record showed a keener interest in the sciences rather than intelligence work. Was that a shift in interest or something else?” His tone remained constant, neither judgmental nor approving. More probing for information than anything else, filling in blanks.

“I saw that there were parts of science that could overlap into intelligence I wanted to explore and see how much they can compliment each other.” Mackenzie said as she regarded him.
