This was the appointment Bethany was dreading. Her recent medical history was highly classified. Even more classified than the last mission on the Azimov. The medical personnel at the starbase had been cruel and treated her like some kind of dangerous virus that they couldn’t help tinkering with. She was not looking forward to this. At least Aasrel was there. She trusted him. He knew it all and would never treat her like a specimen. He was also going to be there for this appointment, so that eased some of the tension she felt. “Do I have to do this? You know I’m healthy.”

“I do, but I’m not a doctor on this ship, Bethany. And besides, I’m not sure how much they trust my judgement after my little chat with the XO.” He said. He took her hand and squeezed it. “It’ll be okay. That’s why I’m here, remember?”

Bethany snorted. “A post traumatic response to a sudden trigger is normal. It is a protection mechanism of the psyche. That has nothing to do with being trustworthy. Anyone who says otherwise needs their psychiatric license revoked.” Bethany was a trained counselor on top of everything else. She just didn’t practice in the most normal sense of the term.

“Well, he didn’t say that,” Aasrel said, quick to defend Nyman. “But… Word gets around Bethany. What will other people think?” He shook his head and shrugged. “Let’s focus on your appointment.”

“That you suffered greatly at the hands of the Borg. You panicked, you didn’t attack her. You didn’t do anything wrong.” She leaned back against the lift wall and stared at her finger nails. “If anyone does think anything negative, I’ll deal with it.”

Aasrel tugged her hand, pulled her into his arms, and kissed her. “I hope that’s dealing with it… peacefully.”
