Kaylin came in, looked around. She noticed the small gathering at the bar but didn’t catch any of the conversation. Taking a spot a few seats over she ordered an old fashioned. Sitting there was a good balance between not wanting to be completely alone while having time to yourself.

Steven noticed the new edition to the bar and called her over. He was new to the ship and meeting people was his main focus in hanging out in the lounge tonight.

Marsh CSO

Kay shifted a little in her seat as he called her over. Debating whether or not to respond, she looked him over.

“Hey,” she said, walking over, “I’m Kaylin.”

“Steven Marsh,” he extended his hand. “I’m the new science chief. Nice to meet you.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever met a Kaylin, a mess of Kaylees - all different spellings, various names that start with something and end with Lynns… but not a single Kaylin. It sounds common, but for me its totally unique.”

“It was probably a spelling mistake. Most people just call me Kay.”

“We have been mulling around the concept of having a ship wide wine tasting event. Are you a beer or wine type of girl?” He signaled the bar tended over waiting for her response.

Marsh CSO

“Aldebaran whiskey,” she said with a curt smile,

“But I’ll take a beer every once in a while. Not very big on wine.”

“Your response is very typical for people who don’t know what they like. Wine is like any other drink. You find what you like and then you like it. “

Kay rolled her eyes,

“Look, Lieutenant, finding a wine I’d like has not necessarily been at the top of my to-do list. Your little contest sounds fun and all but I’m not the girl.”

“It’s not a big deal about whether you like wine or not. Heck drink your whiskey and come to be social. It’s a no pressure event.” Marsh could not tell if Wilde was irritated with his comment or not.

“I’ll think about it then,” she said. While she was slightly annoyed by his insistence, Kay didn’t want to burn any bridges. At least not yet.

“You know it’s very common to age whiskey in oak or some sort of wood barrels. On Earth one of the most common barrels used are former Sherry casks. So you are drinking wine, in a way.” He smiled. barrels. Marsh was a pretty goood looking fellow particularly when he smiled, which he did often.

“So is your knowledge of alcohol production your scientific specialty, or just how you usually impress people?” she asked, raising her eyebrows as she took another drink. He had her attention, even if she just found him amusing at the moment.
