While Matthews left the counselors office, he went to his office only since that is where mainly does all his planning on the ships systems. However, he didn’t know what to do. He had then saw something within the system of the ship, and noticed something was misaligned and out of place.

Kala was taking a stroll between the mess hall and science Lab 1 when she noticed a Lieutenant dressed in yellow looking at a particular console, “Are you ok Lieutenant?” She asked not having much to fill her time as the state of the ship being in relative calm and no new anomalies take on board.

The lieutenant looked up and noticed that there was a young ensign. “Yes Ensign. Everything’s okay I suppose. Not really. It’s just something has been on my mind for quite a while now. And I’ve talked to the counselor but I don’t think you want to hear it cause you know I might just talk to much.” He said to the young ensign not knowing what else to say because of how much he’s in pain.

“Why don you try me” She said with a smile, “We don’t have any anomalies on board at the moment, and I like to think I’m a good listener.” Kala wasn’t going to press the matter if he chose not to but she believed in opening up and talking about things.

He stood there and sighed. He then looked up and said to her. “Do you know how it feels when a girl that you love wants to just leave you just because your on a mission. Well sadly enough that’s what’s happening. And I’m happy here I cannot and I will not allow that to affect my duties. But having someone there with me. Would be nice. But then again I’m your senior officer and your only a junior officer. And besides it wouldn’t be that much of appropriate if a senior officer and a junior officer well you know ended up flirting with each other.” He said with a little unknown emotions going on.

Kala took a moment to think, then offered, “Long-distance relationships can be really tough. Communication is key, and sometimes, understanding that you’re both dedicated to your missions can help. It’s important to find ways to stay connected, even if it’s just through regular messages or shared moments when you can.”

She gave him a reassuring smile. “And as for intercrew relationships, there’s nothing in the regulations that outright forbids them, regardless of rank. What matters most is professionalism on duty and mutual respect.”

Then, with a playful glint in her eye, she added, “So, are we flirting here, Lieutenant, or is this just friendly advice?”

The lieutenant smiled. “Yeah. I guess we are flirting. It’s probably something I need. Well okay. She wants to dump me and honestly she’ll find someone else. So yes. I believe we are flirting. ” He said with a little flirty eye look.

Kala watched him carefully, her thoughts racing. She wasn’t about to leap into anything with a man clearly grieving, but if he was open to a bit of harmless flirting, well, who was she to deny herself? After all, she had needs too, and sometimes a little connection was just what the doctor ordered.

“Well, if she’s dumping you for doing your job and being away,” Kala said, her tone a mix of sympathy and pragmatism, “it seems like the decision’s already been made for you.”

She paused for a moment, weighing her next words carefully. Then, with her usual directness, she asked, “So, what’s your type?” Kala’s eyes met his, her expression open and unguarded, showing him she was the kind of woman who didn’t beat around the bush. If there was a connection to be explored, she was ready to explore it—if he was.

“Well Ensign, I got to admit you’re right the decision has been made only since I’m here and doing my job.” He said with a smile. “To answer your question of who is my type. To be honest,” he smiled more. “You are more my type then the last girl I was with. Um to be honest your like really beautiful and I know that there is some sort of connection for us.” He said even more with a smile and started to blush a little. “What about you? What is your type?” He said continuing.

Kala couldn’t help but smile at his straightforwardness. She appreciated his honesty, even if it was wrapped in a bit of flirty awkwardness. “My type?” she echoed, tilting her head as she considered his question. “That’s a tricky one. I guess my type changes from person to person. I’ve never been the kind to have a fixed idea of who I’m supposed to be with.”

She paused, her smile turning a bit softer, more introspective. “I haven’t been in a serious relationship in a long time, to be honest. I tend to come with a ‘handle with care’ label.” Kala let out a light laugh, trying to keep the mood light despite the seriousness of what she was revealing. “I guess I’ve just been focused on my work, and that makes things… complicated.”

Not wanting to dwell on the past too much, she looked up at him and suggested, “How about we take a walk? If you’re up for it, that is. A little light conversation might be just what we both need right now.” Kala’s tone was warm, inviting him to join her but leaving it entirely up to him if he wanted to continue their chat in a less formal setting.

It’s an old earth saying.” He mentioned with a smile. “If we were to be in a serious relationshipKeyword if and still be able to work as officers im sure it’ll work. But then again it’s a big if. But uh anything else should I know about you Ens… urm Kala?” He asked catching himself from saying Ensign. Just feeling a lot flustered and not realizing how much he likes her.

Kala noticed the shift in his tone and the way he caught himself from addressing her formally. It was endearing, but she knew it was important to set some boundaries before things got too ahead of themselves. She smiled warmly, placing a gentle hand on his arm to reel him back in.

“Chase, I’m flattered by your interest, truly,” she began, her voice soft but firm. “But before we start talking about ‘what ifs’ and relationships, I think it’s important that we get to know each other first. Flirting is fun, and I’m all for a little banter, but I don’t lower my shields that easily.”

Kala gave him a reassuring smile, wanting him to understand where she was coming from. “I’ve been through enough to know that rushing into things doesn’t usually end well. So how about we take this one step at a time? We can walk, talk, and see where things go. No pressure, no expectations. Just two officers getting to know each other better.”

She let her words hang in the air for a moment, hoping he would understand that she wasn’t shutting him down, just setting the pace. “So,” she said, her smile widening, “shall we?”

Chase walked with her as they were speaking and understood rather easy then most people would. However, as a Vulcan he’s the only one that can release his emotions. “Of course Kala. We can talk and get to know each other.” He said calmly as he understood her extremely well.

“So Kala please tell me about yourself.” He asked her nicely to tell him about herself. As if it was a normal thing that people should typically ask is they can tell that other person about themself. With that in mind he knew that there were things he had to tell to Kala himself but he couldn’t find the words until it came too him.

“For me you already know my name. It’s Chase. I’m a Vulcan but a well known on that is emotional. I’m 6 foot and 200 lbs. I went to the academy when I was 16 and graduated at 20. I was later then assigned to spacedock for a couple of years when I turned 22. I then was called to be the Chief of Operations here on the Leviathan and became surprised. But I knew that as soon as I was called up to take this assignment after being at spacedock for 2 years I finally knew that this is the place for me right here.” He explained to her more about his Starfleet career.

“Let’s also say that while being there at the academy, my first girlfriend broke up with me because I was way way to smart and too intelligent for her. My second girlfriend, sadly enough died in a shuttle accident while at the academy, my third girlfriend like I said broke up with me because of the distance and the assignment that I’ve taken. So I know how you feel about going to fast after those three. I feel like if we walked and talked it’s something we’ve accomplished you know what I mean?” He asked her with a nice smile as she has her arm through his.
