Posted by… suppressed (12) by the Post Ghost! 👻Mac was humming softly to the music in her ears thanks to a set of over the ear earbuds, she was in no hurry as she walked down the corridor towards the counselor offices.
She was off duty and wearing a black shirt with numerous colors of Sakura blossoms on it, black pants and slightly heeled black sandals that showed off her pearleasant hued painted toenails. She wore no jewelry and her hair was in a loose french twist with a few curls hanging free.
Mac had missed her original appointment thanks to some unforeseen issues with the RTF department (her assignment there had been in question by some of the other members and it had taken time to sort out), and then her assignment to the away team. That had not been a barrel of laughs at all except, for the brief banter before the worms attacked. When she reached the doorway she removed her earbuds and turned off the music from her player she placed the earbuds in the slide in on the player and put it in her pocket.
She rang the chime and waited for permission to enter.

RTF Leader“Come in…” Nyman called. No sooner had he given the cue the doors opened.
The counselor was sitting at his desk, which he repositioned to be to the left side of the room, in front of Maslow’s 100-gallon long terrarium. The little red-eared slider was swimming about, snacking on some pellets Nyman had just dropped in. The counselor seemed to be fidgeting with his hair, pulling it back into a more presentable shape with a few bands laid out on his desk.
Across from his desk was his new-ish seating area. It was sectioned off with same long pile rug, had the same cream-colored armchair and unremarkable wooden side table. However, it also featured a new chez lounge, significantly more pillows, and a set of plush stools. Behind the seating area, the wall still displayed his part of his collection of various clay sculptures and ceramics. The rest were now displayed on a large shelf along the back wall of the office, placed in between the two narrow starboard facing windows.
Lieutenant Nyman took a moment from playing with his hair to look over and wave her in.
“Oh hello,” he said with his usual air of friendliness, “I was about to call for you. I hope everything is okay.”
Mac smiled cheekily, “Hello, I am doing pretty good and I like the new look of the place.” She really really liked the look of chez lounge, pillows, along with those plush stools; which had her wishing he was aware of her feline nature so she could enjoy them in her feline form. As it was she pushed down her feline side and focused back on the Chief Counselor.
One final twist brought his hair back into a neat bun. Afterward, letting his hands rest on the table, making it clear she had his full attention,
“If this isn’t a good time for you, we can reschedule.”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|“Now is perfectly fine, unless I am interrupting your free time? If that’s the case, I will come back when you’re back on duty?” Mac said with a cheekily playful grin. Folks that were not afraid to fix their hair in front of others always gave off the air of being more trustworthy in her opinion. Plus she honestly liked the chance to admire another’s hair. Her family was a mixture of every shade of ginger and red. Seeing other colors and textures of hair was always fun for her.

RTF Leader“Free time?” he questioned, tilting his head slightly, “No, not at all! Don’t worry about it, I’m always available to help.”
It was pretty common for the Lieutenant to be in his natural form while alone. Hence why he was, to borrow a phrase, ‘caught his hair down’. It was slightly more difficult to maintain and style himself, but having long hair to play with was one of the ways he could stand appearing human so long. A way to change appearance without completely shifting forms. He stood up and gestured toward the seating area,
“You can have a seat if you would like. Can I get you anything? A drink or a snack, or anything really. It’s no problem.”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|Mac sat down in a smoothly graceful motion as playful smile threatening to show off her dimples, “I won’t say no to hot chocolate if possible?” She didn’t drink coffee that often and when she did it was generally more chocolate with peppermint cappuccino, or vanilla bean and french vanilla cappuccino. If offered the choice she would usually prefer a hot chocolate with peppermint.

RTF Leader“Alright then, one hot chocolate coming up,” Nyman responded.
He walked over to the replicator, and in the middle of punching in the order called over, “So, one hot chocolate? Anything special? Computer recommends cinnamon spiced, cherry jubilee, peppermint with whipped cream?”
“Peppermint without whipped cream please and thank you very much.” Mac replied with a cheeky grin.
The counselor brought over Mac’s drink, as well as his own, and set them on the coffee table.
“Okay, there you are, one hot chocolate for you, one lemon fizz for me. So tell me,” He said, sitting across from Mac and offering a comforting look. He knew she had been called in because of what happened during the landing party, but didn’t want to push it right away if she wasn’t ready.
“I’d like to know what you’d like to talk about first,” he continued, “There are a lot of things we could cover and this is our first visit, after all. So lead the way, what’s on your mind.”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|“Honestly I am just upset that Davis got eating by the biggest worm I ever saw. He was starting to be a good friend and I had nearly talked him into joining me for some parkour.” she shook her head, “He was funny and had wit, wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. He deserved better than that.” Mac took a breath and took a sip from the hot chocolate with peppermint. It was slightly sweeter than she usually had but it wasn’t unwelcome. Likely a variant of the chocolate or something. Or a different style of peppermint had been infused to it? Either way it did help her relax a bit more. “I know our job can be dangerous but I really didn’t think that Davis would be among the ones to get taken down so soon.” she managed with less fury to her tone more she was sad he was gone. Though she was sure he would not become forgotten. He made a mark on several folks as long as they remembered him. There would be a part of him with them.
Lt Kindle
RTF LeaderThe counselor leaned forward in his seat with a stifled sigh. He wasn’t expecting to have to deal with… that topic so quickly. At the same time it was understandable that Davis’ death was the thing on her mind.
“Yes, an unexpected death can be very upsetting to deal with,” he said with a nod, “Even if we do know the job can be dangerous. It also sounds to me like you knew Davis well.”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|“Not as well as I would have liked but not much for it when I haven’t been aboard the ship for very long either.” Mac said with a shake of her head, “He made a good impression and I like to think he would have been a good friend.” she gave a slightly cheeky grin, “He actually laughed when I first sassed at him though I wasn’t in uniform at the time so he didn’t know I actually out ranked him.” She didn’t really care about ranks and such. As long as everyone was treated right and did their job that was all that mattered to her. Mac also wasn’t afraid to tell off a higher up if they were being abusive of their position. That was also she was sure the main reason she had been sent to join the Leviathan’s crew, not that the change of scene ever bothered her.
Lt Kindle
RTF Leader“How do you feel when you reflect on those kinds memories?” Nyman asked, trying to get a better grasp for where she was at in general. Not knowing Mac well it was hard to tell if her, for lack of a better term ‘positivity’ about the situation, was a coping mechanism or just how she was.
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|OOC: Mac is generally in cheeky cheerful and sassy on any given day. It’s when she gets quiet that something is up she doesn’t yell when she’s angry. Mac will get right eye to eye almost nose touching their nose, with whoever upset her and barely above a whisper tell them off, or let a pastry do it in a messy colorful manner but won’t actually bring to to physical fighting unless there’s no other option.
Only thing that is an instant retaliation is if she sees someone harming a child or someone that can’t fight back. It’s in her file with the correct counseling notations, suggestions etc. feel free to add to it. ;-)–
Mac gave a shrug and shook her head slightly, “Sad that I won’t get to know him any better myself but there’s a few among the RTF team that knew him better. I figure if or when they’re ready I am sure they’ll tell all is newbies to the department what he was like. Or they won’t depends on them, their choice.” She paused and added lightly, “Going to try and come up with training ideas so if something similar comes up maybe we can all come back to the ship from the mission.” Plan practice and hope that was all that they could really do. The job wasn’t a safe one but then no job really was. If it was just safe it would get really boring in her opinion. To live was to the explore, learn, and if you’re really lucky you’d make some good friends along the way.Lt Kindle
RTF Leader“I agree that it’s good to leave it up to the others as to when they want to discuss it, if at all.” the counselor responded.
And I’m impressed that she is turning this situation into something productive so quickly. he also thought, but was aware that saying so outright could be perceived as rude. It was however a complement, in line with his Vendorian nature.
“As far as coming up with these training ideas, how is that going for you?”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|“Still in the planning stage at the moment. I don’t want to just spring it on them yet. Plus I want to give everyone time to get to know and trust each other a bit more. Trust helps in training as much as when needed on the field.” she said with a wry grin before she took another small sip from the hot chocolate with peppermint.
Lt Kindle
RTF Leader“Well, many people consider having that trust … valuable.” the counselor admitted. Though it hurt to say, he was going to be professional. Trust was not something that came naturally to him, for many reasons. But it was important, for some people.
“So you do plan on getting to know your crew mates a bit more? Tell me about that. For example, how do you feel you are getting along so far?”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|“Well to start I have let it be known that anytime I am in the holo-deck anyone is welcome to come in and join in. I am usually just goofing off with a connection link to my siblings programs or just walking or exploring a new program, having company makes it more fun.” Mac said with a grin that had a bit less cheek in it. “I’ve talked to the ship’s chef so I can borrow the kitchen in the lounge area so I can bake. I’ll see how it goes from there when I get a bit of free time. Beyond that it is a matter of seeing whom I cross in the corridor if there’s no emergency or anything to keep from a conversation.” she added lightly.

“I can see you have a tendency toward being outgoing,” the counselor replied with a smile, “And it seems like you have some family you can talk to and hobbies to enjoy while onboard too, that’s all very good.”
Nyman paused, pushing himself up to sit sort of crisscross in his chair before continuing, “What do you think about your assignment? Of course, you have what happened on the planet, but I mean more broadly. How’s it feeling so far?”
