| “If you or anyone you know has been affected by the content, please reach out to the command staff for support and sign posting.” |Ensign Conners was in sickbay, under observation. The gentle beeps of the biobed indicating a state of rest and recovery. He would have been cleared for discharge if not for the other circumstances surrounding his injury.
Lieutenant Nyman watched from across sickbay. He went over the Ensign’s file again: Human male, 24 years old, currently recovering from what heat stroke, which appeared to be at least partially self-inflicted. Currently seeking help for mild social anxiety.
Fingers trembled as they scrolled across the screen. Up and down through the available session notes. No history of self harming behaviors, no indication of mood disorders or other disturbances, no warning signs recorded by counseling staff.
The feeling of failure knotted up in his chest. As Chief Counselor, it was his responsibility to notice if something was wrong. How could he be so careless when it could mean someone’s life?
There had to be something else. He went over the file again…
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|Brad paced back and forth across sickbay, having already briefed the appropriate staff as to the needs presented in the staff meeting. He’d already read through the file a hundred times as well, not seeing any background of this sort of activity. And so he paced, not really able to do anything but with the urge to do something. Half an eye was kept directly on Conners, but he was obviously distracted, lost in thought.
On a sudden whim, he changed the direction of his stride, walking over to join the counselor. “Nyman,” he asked, “what’s Conners’ recent work activity? Could he have been affected by an anomaly of some sort since your last session with him, and who’s been consistently near him in that time?”
Lieutenant Bradley Maxwell
Chief Medical Officer“Maybe…” Lieutenant Nyman muttered. After a few taps he found another wall of files to sift through.
“Looks like he’s been all over the ship. Upgrading security sensors, installing new multi-frequency detectors in the corridors, all crew level stuff.”
He paused his scrolling, pointing out a line on the screen,
“Last Monday - he was working on the containment deck. Came into contact with what has been classified as… an object of ‘inert multidimensional matter’.” he continued. “I… I don’t know what that could mean, I don’t have the clearance to look further into it.”
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|
“I wouldn’t know, either,” Brad said, pausing, “but I wonder if Commander Magnusson might, and I imagine he’d have that clearance.I think we just found our lead into this incident.” He tapped his badge. “Maxwell to Magnusson. When you are free, if you could please come to sickbay?” He took back to pacing, muttering under his breath, over and over, “inert multidimensional matter.”Lieutenant Bradley Maxwell
Chief Medical Officer=^=One minute out=^= Magnus had already been on his way, only stopping to make a secure connection from his office system to his work PaDD, he usually didn’t like having anything so vulnerable accessing his systems but he wanted something mobile and off the normal computer library banks available. Exactly sixty seconds after the call he entered Sickbay “Doctor, Counselor” He gave each officer a slight nod “Have you learned anything new?” He asked.
CIO
“We’re not sure yet…” Nyman reported, “It might have to do with the multidimensional matter business Conners was exposed to last week. For some reason,” Lieutenant Nyman said, looking back at Magnus with a slight smirk, “I don’t have security clearance to look further into it.”
Adam gave Nyman a sharp look “Your duties do not require Omega level clearance Lieutenant” He reprimanded the younger officer, this was not the time and place for such discussions “If you want to get Gamma clearance I recommend requesting reassignment as an ARU research consultant” A not so subtle reminder that the Leviathan worked under different security clearance protocols than Starfleet standard.
Adam had looked down as he spoke, tapping his PaDD to gain access to his system looking up the information requested by the other two officers.
After the exchange a nurse came up to the group,
“Sir,” he said, addressing no one in particular, “Ensign Conners is awake. He seems a bit disoriented but he’s lucid enough to answer questions.”
“Yes, thank you,” Nyman replied, “If it’s alright with you, Doctor, I’d like to go check on him.”

Chief Counselor|CIO
The CIO would’ve found it easily, Conners was given limited access to an area reserved for less-dangerous anomalies. He was upgrading the security sensors to meet the latest Star Fleet compliance standards. The object he encountered was a chair, specifically an office chair that appeared like any other on the ship. However, in reality it was a fourth-dimensional object, which had the slightly amusing effect of causing the chair to ‘disappear’ when someone attempts to sit on it. Nothing was observed about the chair itself being dangerous. However, how it was acquired had an interesting story. It was one of a collection of objects recovered from a damaged collector ship. Many from this group also suffered from fire damage, as the ship’s collection was evidently set ablaze before it eventually crashed onto the planetoid where they found it.
Nyman, meanwhile, had already made his way beside Conners,
“Hello Ensign,” he said softly, sitting down on a stool next to the biobed, “How are we doing?”
“It’s - it’s really cold in here still. I asked the nurse t-to turn up the temperature…”
“I understand, it’s a bit in here cooler than usual. That’s just because we want to be careful.” Nyman inhaled sharply, not wanting to ask the question too directly. But he did have to address the problem,
“I’d like to know what happened.”
“I don’t know what you mean counselor…”
“Let’s start with… what were you thinking about when you returned to your crew quarters?”
“I- I was upgrading the sensors.” Conners responded, seeming more awake than he was before, “All week, upgrading and testing. I got back to my quarters, it was so cold…”
“How did you feel then?”
“I was tired from my shift. It was so tedious, and boring, and I just wanted to take a rest from it.”
“Just take a rest for how long?” the counselor asked softly,
“Ten, at most twenty minutes. We had an appointment, didn’t we? I didn’t want to be late for the appointment.”
[OOC: Pausing because this conversation could go on a while, so you guys could continue with your other actions. Also I’m loosing track of this kids name but i edited his it to be consistent.]
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|
Brad quietly paced, listening to the conversation, but not finding anything to add. His temperature perception was off, he noted to himself, so it probably wasn’t a desire to harm himself.
