Saoir furrowed his face in concentration as he, with the help of three engineers, meticulously examined the intricate web of components and controls in transporter panels on the ship. The urgency of the situation pressed upon him – the away team may eventually need these transporters and them being functional depended on his ability to unravel the mystery that was impeding them being from operational. His engineering expertise along with his security role allowed him to operate in a dual capacity aboard the Leviathan.

A bead of sweat trickled down Saoir’s blue temple as he studied the diagnostics, his fingers sliding across the control panel with a precision. The hum of the ship’s systems echoed in the background, amplifying the tension in the air.

The alien planet’s interference with the transporters confounded Saoir. It was as if the very fabric of the planet’s atmosphere conspired against the delicate dance of matter conversion. His mind raced through the technical schematics, attempting to decode the anomaly that eluded conventional reasoning.

Due to his Kelpien features, frustration was not evident but it was there as he muttered to himself, techno babble escaping his lips. “The quantum resonance matrix is within nominal parameters, but there’s an unaccounted interference cascade from the atmospheric composition. It defies standard analysis protocols.”

His beady eyes darted across the display, searching for a solution buried within the tons of data. Tiny drops of perspiration gathered on his forehead as he studied the complexities of the transporter’s innards. =^=Perhaps recalibrating the phase discriminator and modulating the pattern buffers could mitigate the interference,=^= he said into his comm, fingers flying across the controls .

An Engineer chimed in on the comm and said, =^=Yes, yes. We should try that. Let me know when you are ready so we can begin the calibration at the time.=^=

Ensign Saoir
(Transporter Op/Security)

=^=Ensign Saoir, Please can you provide me with an update on your progress?=^= Came the commanders voice over the comms.

  • Loughty, XO

With the recent system failure their first attempt to recalibrate failed. The system had to reset.
=^=Commander, I am in the process of a transporter dilemma here. The alien planet’s interference is playing tricks with the atmospheric dance of matter conversion. I’ve identified a potential solution involving recalibrating the phase discriminator and modulating the pattern buffers. Our first attempted failed because of the recent interference with the ships systems. I am re-coordinating with the engineers to update the calibration process. Stand by for further updates.=^=

Ensign Saoir
(Transporter/Security)

=^= Understood Ensign, please notify me if there are any changes. Loughty Out=^=

Commander Oliver Loughty
Executive Officer
USS Leviathan

=^= Aye Commander. Now that we are moving out of orbit of the planet, the transporters seem to be slowly coming back online, however, we are much too far away to beam the away team back to the Leviathan. We must find a balance here. I will on every angle I can fine.=^=

Saoir, Transporter/Security

Deshara entered the transporter room where Saoir was working. He seemed frustrated that he couldn’t get the transporters operational. “I don’t understand. I have tried everything. I mean we have some functionality since we have moved further from the planet, but we are out of range to beam the team back. The Captain, Lieutenant Ruuk, Kindle…they may be lost…”

Saoir, Transporter/Security

Deshara put her hand on Saoirs back and said, it’s not you. It’s the planet. The energy is causing our systems to fail. In any case we have a plan. We are going to synchronize the probe launch with the transporter operation. Lieutentant Thenis will monitor and configure the probes from here, Saoir you should handle the transporter, and I will coordinate with the bridge to locate our crew on the surface.” She began to type some information into the transporter console. “We need precision in launching the probes. I will set the EM Field pattern parameters to optimize charging. Once launched, we should be able to keep an open channel with the away team through their communicators.”

Toussaint, Science

Saoir stared at Deshara for a moment then nodded. He activated the comms then said, “CIC, prepare for probe launch.” He quickly moved to the transporter console. Lieutenant Thenis we will launch on your command. How long do you need to ready the probes?” Saoir asked.

Saoir, Transporter/Security

Kit entered and walked over to the station. She pulled up the diagrams on the class-7 probes and began to input some data, the trick would be making the probes energy signals invisible to creatures who could detect electromagnetic energy, and more that likely other spectrum energy. “Okay folks here is the deal, we need to have the probes do a dead drop through the atmosphere and only hit the landing thrusters at the last second. Now the next trick will be to slowly open low wave frequency scans and work our way up, at the same time any and all electromagnetic energy needs to be minimized to barely nothing to nothing,” She looked up at Ensign Saoir and Cadet Toussaint “Think you can handle it? Before you ask Cadet Toussaint what do you recall about Terran animals that use electricity for either electrogenesis; generating electric pulses, or electroreception; detecting these pulses. Well I believe our friends on the surface do both, hence the reason for little to no electromagnetic energy.”

Lieutenant Kitiuas Thenis, Science
USS Leviathan

Deshara stopped her work on the console as she considered Lieutenant Thenis’s question. She looked at Saoir then Thenis as she answered the question. “Terran animals possess unique abilities related to electricity. For instance, some creatures can generate electric pulses, a process known as electrogenesis. This ability is often used for communication, navigation, or even defense.”
Saoir nodded and added, “On the other hand, electroreception involves the detection of electric pulses in the environment. Animals like certain fish and amphibians use this ability to locate prey or navigate through their surroundings. It’s a crucial aspect of their survival strategy. Kelpiens employ this ability to keep in contact and sense dangerous situations.”

Deshara smiled at Saoir and said to Thenis, “We can handle it, Lieutenant Thenis.”

Saoir’s voice echoed through the room as he continued coordinating with the bridge. “Bridge, this is Saoir. We are preparing to launch probes synchronized with the transporter operation. Stand by for updates.”

As the countdown began, Saoir took a deep breath and focused on the transporter controls. “Lieutenant Thenis, let us know when those probes are ready.”

Saoir, Transporter/Security

Thenis finished the complex mathematical equation and uploaded it into the programing of the probes. “We are ready as we can be, remember a dead drop them through the atmosphere, then at the last minute hit the landing thrusters. It will minimize the detection of the probes.”

Lieutenant Kitiuas Thenis, Science
USS Leviathan

Deshara acknowledged Thenis’s instructions with a determined nod. “Understood, Lieutenant. We’ll execute the dead drop with precision.”

Saoir glanced at Deshara, giving her a nodd. “CIC, we’re initiating the probe launch now. Standby for confirmation.”

The room hummed with anticipation as Saoir manipulated the controls, coordinating the delicate operation with the bridge. Deshara monitored the console, ensuring that every parameter was within the specified range.

A soft beep signaled the successful launch of the probes. Saoir reported to the bridge, “Probes away. Initiating atmospheric entry. Standby for dead drop descent maneuver.”

=^=Confirmed Ensign Saoir,Standby for telemetry feed.....Initiate probe launch sequence, and make sure to synchronize it with the ongoing transporter operation. Let’s ensure a seamless delivery of information to the away team.=^=

Lieutenant Junior Grade Ynuchausti
(Communications Officer)

As the probes descended towards the planet’s surface, Deshara focused on the data streaming in. “Lieutenant Thenis, initial telemetry looks stable. Atmospheric conditions are within expected parameters. No deviations detected.”

As the probes continued their descent, the tension in the room remained palpable. Deshara’s eyes flickered between the console and Saoir, ensuring that all systems operated flawlessly.

Suddenly, an alarm blared from one of the consoles, causing Deshara to tense up. Saoir swiftly assessed the situation, his fingers quickly moving across the console. “It’s okay. We’ve got a minor deviation in atmospheric pressure. Adjusting thrusters for stabilization.”

Deshara worked in tandem with Saoir, making real-time adjustments to compensate for the unexpected atmospheric disturbance.
After a tense few moments, Saoir announced, “Stabilizing. Probes are back on course. Continuing descent.”

Deshara let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding, smiled and said. “Good work, Ensign Saoir.”

As the probes approached their destination, the room fell silent, the tension mounting once again.

Kit was biting her lower lip. She was itching to begin scanning, but knew better than to start to early. The alarm startled her a bit and she bit her lip, she could taste the copper and chlorophyll flowing from the bite. She sucked the wound and placed her tongue up against it to staunch the flow. The probes came back under control and now they just waited for the final part, the landing.

Lieutenant Kitiuas Thenis, Science
USS Leviathan

As the probes approached their destination, the room fell silent, the tension mounting once again. When the probes successfully landed on the planet’s surface, Jhene monitored the incoming data.
=^=Ensign Saoir, telemetry feed established. Standby for data transfer.=^= Jhene’s voice came in over the comms.
Deshara nodded and then relayed the confirmation. “Saoir, initiate data transfer to the away team. Make sure they get the information as quickly as possible.”

Saoir swiftly executed the command, ensuring that the away team received the telemetry feed without any hitches.

Suddenly, the console beeped, indicating a successful connection. “We’ve got the telemetry feed,” an NE Comms Officer announced, his voice tinged with a mix of excitement and urgency.

The holographic display flickered to life, revealing a 3D map of the planet and the location of the away team six blinking dots in close proximity to one another. One dot was far from the rest of the away team.

Captain Henao’s voice echoed through the communication console =^=Leviathan, do you read me?=^=

Captain Henao
(Commanding Officer)

Once the probes landed Kit began an extremely low grade scan of the planet and lifeforms, slowly increasing the scan. She ensured that neither electromagnetic or electrical scans were performed. The data was starting to form Lumbricus terrestris mixed with Gymnotus electricus. Usage of a strange form of bioelectromagnetic force for self-defense, aided by the natural geology of the planet, and for hunting, a form of motion perception. These creatures could move under ground at incredible speeds of 55 mph or 88.5 km/h.
=/\=Bridge advise landing party to move extremely slow, with little impact when stepping. Better no movement at all and let us beam them aboard. Their friends are extremely motion perceptive and definitely move faster than them.=/\=

Lieutenant Kitiuas Thenis, Science
USS Leviathan

[Crosspost]
=^=Noted Lieutenant Thenis.=^= said Jhalae =^=I’ll be sure to relay the message to the away team.=^=

As the conversation continued, the officers in the transporter room worked quickly. Saoir studies the 3D map displayed the away team’s progress, and the blinking dots showing their locations. The tension in the air was thick as he worked to input the correct beam-up sequence.

Suddenly, the console beeped again, signaling success in locking onto the away team’s coordinates.

Ensign Saoir
(Transporter/Security)

Deshara announced over comms to the bridge, =^=We’ve got a lock on the away team, Commander!=^=
