It had taken Ash some time to build a programe on the Holodeck that would not only provide a basic overview of what combat missions could involve on a ship like the Leviathan, but also be challenging enough for Ensign Saoir to refine his skills as a Security Officer. Though her memories as an Admiral were still hazy, she was almost certain that he had served in some sort of war… she just couldn’t remember which one. Her memories would have to wait for now, she had duties to fulfill after all, duties to this ship and duties to Starfleet as a whole, and she would do her best to fulfill them.

She stood in her office, a sly grin crossing her face as she pictured what could happen in the next few hours, “=^= Mavix to Saoir and Nyman, please report to the Security Office at your earliest convenience=^=.”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

=^= I’ll be there in fifteen, Lieutenant =^=
Nyman responded.

After a while Lieutenant Nyman rang the chime of Ash’s office. He was not exactly sure what to expect from this proposed holodeck program, so he wore his regular uniform and his hair up. Spilt into five parts, each section folded in half so it looped, and each loop was pinned flat to the scalp to keep it secure. Just something to keep it secure and out of the way if physical activity was required.

Ensign Saoir received the message and quickly made his way to the Security Office. As he arrived, he found Lieutenant Nyman already waiting there. Saoir’s mind was focused on the training program he had just completed on the Holodeck, and he couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation about what Lieutenant Mavix had in store for them.

“Ensign Nyman,” Saoir greeted his colleague with a nod. “I wonder what Lieutenant Mavix has planned for us. It’s been a while since I had a challenging combat simulation.”

“Hopefully not too challenging,” Nyman responded with a small grin, “I’ll do my best, but I’m still just a ship’s counselor.”

He stood with his hands behind his back, his posture relaxed but attentive. Saoir was always eager to improve his skills and take on new challenges, and he had a feeling that the Chief of Security had something interesting in mind.

Saoir, Transporter Op/Security

The doors to Ash’s office slid open, she stood with a mischievous grin on her face and a phaser rifle holstered at her back, ‘Howdy boys, hope you’re not gonna go easy on me cuz this host’s a girl?’ She winked.

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Nyman paused to look at Ash, his attention drawn to the weapon. The smile dropped for a moment and anxiety flashed in his eyes. Then he was back to his usual calm, friendly self.

“The thought didn’t even cross my mind, Lieutenant.” he said, smile returning.

Though she wouldn’t know it, the idea of females being weaker or less capable was something he only learned about after going to school on Earth. Even then, the idea seemed absurd.

~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Counselor
“Glad to hear it, and you’ll be pleased to know that Ah didn’t create this programme, so Ah don’t even have a home field advantage.” She smiled and gestured to a rack in one corner of the room, “Ah trust you’re both familiar with Starfleet tactical gear?”
-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-
“Familiar enough,” Nyman replied, stepping toward the rack. He looked it over for a moment, arms crossed in thought. From the user end, Federation phasers and Romulan disrupters were pretty much the same. He had some - experiences - with both but was by no means an expert.
“It seems like you already got us covered on heavy firepower. What would you recommend for something a bit more… maneuverable?”
~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Counselor

“Type Six Phase Pistol,” Ash replied with a grin, gesturing to another rack, “Bit of a remake on an old classic from the days of the original Enterprise, Ah must say, Ah’ve always been fond of the classics.”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security=

Nyman approached where Ash had gestured and picked up the phase pistol. He looked it over, balanced the weight in his hands a bit before appearing decently satisfied with it.

“What about you, Ensign?” he asked Saoir, “Anything else look interesting to you?”

OOC: By the way, for the tactical gear, imagine a more Starfleet-ish design of the angel suit from Discovery, just without the wings.

Ash grinned, “Saoir is more than prepared for this sort of thing,” she tapped the Ensign goodnaturedly on the shoulder, “It’s you we’re testing Counsellor.”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Nyman let out a small chuff. First, they tested his loyalty and phycological fitness. Next was his counseling exam, which due to concerns concerned raised by the board, he had to take twice. Recently there was the the additional, in retrospect completely expected physiological exam. He was getting tired of being tested.

“It seems you have a liking for the older stuff, Lieutenant,” Nyman said,

“Is it just a personal interest of yours, or more of a nostalgic thing?”

~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Counselor
“Well, ye could say I’m interested in seeing how yo-, er rather the crew perform.”
-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-
“Well, I just hope I don’t end up holding you back,” Nyman said with a somewhat nervous laugh.
He holstered the phase pistol, eyes resting on it for a while, just sitting there at his hip. They trusted him to carry a weapon. They barely knew him. Were he someone else, he could’ve taken advantage. He had no intention or reason to harm them, it was just fascinating to him how much Starfleet personnel just trusted each other like that. The Romulans would never have, and his own people were much too cautious around strangers.
“I am just a counselor.” He said, barely above a murmur. Reassuring himself as much as everyone else in earshot.
He looked back towards the others, snapping back to reality and putting on a smile,
“Oh well, we’re not going to find out if we stand around here all day. Are we ready or what?”
~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Counselor

Ash noted the nervousness in Nyman’s tone, but pretended not to hear him, “Ah’ve never heard a better suggestion, Saoir, you in?”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Saoir, despite his internal excitement, managed to maintain a composed exterior. “Absolutely, Lieutenant Mavix. Ready for action,” he affirmed, a confident nod accompanying his words. It was truly the only time he had felt a real connection to any of his ship mates on the Leviathan.

He couldn’t help but feel a certain thrill at the prospect of a combat simulation. It was a chance to showcase his skills and prove that he was more than just a transporter operator. Saoir approached the rack, eyeing the Type Six Phase Pistol. He picked it up, testing the weight in his hands with a thoughtful expression.

“This brings back memories of my tactical training at the Academy,” he remarked, a faint smile playing on his lips. “Let’s see how well I’ve retained those skills.”

As they prepared to head towards the holodeck, Saoir couldn’t shake the anticipation building within him. He was ready for the challenge, eager to test his mettle in a scenario crafted by the Chief of Security herself. Little did he know that this simulation would not only test his combat abilities but also reveal a side of himself he hadn’t explored in a long time.

Saoir, Transporter Op/Security

Within ten minutes, Nyman, Saoir and Mavix were kitted out and outside the Security Office’s training holodeck (OOC: Think like the one on the E in Elite Force II). Ash could see that the Counsellor was nervous and on edge, she was determined to find out why, as well as being eager to give Saoir the chance to show off his skills as a Security Officer and Tactician.

“Alright fellers, here’s the plan,” Ash began, her voice coming out as a little tinny through the Tactical Gear’s close circuit com network, “This Holodeck programme is a Search and Rescue operation with a twist, a group of Starfleet Officers patrolling the Neutral Zone have been captured by a squadron of Tal Shiar agents known as the Emerald Blade division. Ah reckon you guys know what comes next, o’ course, we have to rescue them. This however, is where the twist comes in, this programme is designed to adapt to any decisions you make in regards to how you go about performing this rescue. Ah’m gon’ help where Ah can, but the main purpose of this exercise is to see how you both cope on a high risk mission. Any questions?”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Nyman had a valid excuse for being nervous. Being just a counselor as he continued to remind everyone. One who could be reasonably nervous testing their skills in a simulated, highly hypothetical situation with no relation to his personal experiences.

But the name Tal Shiar still struck him like lightning. Though he would like to pretend it didn’t.

“No, no questions, Lieutenant.” he said sharply.

~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Counselor
“In that case, ready up boys! Computer, begin programme.” The computer gave an obliging trill as Ash entered the Holodeck, allowing Nyman and Saoir to run ahead of her to scope out the area. Within seconds, the Holodeck had transformed itself into what looked like an ancient temple of some sort. Cracked walls still held the faint outlines of ancient script of a language that most Starfleet officers wouldn’t recognise. Ahead, there lay two paths with a fork dividing them. One looked to be well travelled and even had faint traces of technological broadcast signals coming from the end of the corridor, as the built-in scanning equipment on the Tactical Gear would tell them, “Two options boys, take your pick.”
-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-
Lieutenant Nyman stepped into the holodeck and took a deep breath. Reminding himself that this was just simulation. He stood beside Saoir, slightly turned away to cover the group’s blind spot. Keeping his phase pistol close, pointed down the corridor.
“Okay,” he murmured, taking in the environment. He noticed the signals from the one direction. To him, suspicious and worth investigating with caution.
He glanced back at the others. Even in a simulation, there was still the possibility that he would do or say something that would compromise his cover. No matter what happened, he would have to react as they would expect Todd Nyman, the human counselor, to react.
“I think maybe we should try- but I don’t know, what do you think?” he asked, trying his best to sound unsure.
~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Chief Counselor

“Instincts boys, instincts…” Ash’s voice seemed to come from behind them, but when the two officers turned to look, she was gone.

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Realizing he was alone with the Ensign, Nyman’s grip on the phase-pistol tightened. Every sound in the empty corridor amplified. Every flickering change in the lights drew his attention. Breathing in deeply, he became aware that even the air was different here. It tasted different. Yet, it was all uncomfortably familiar. Over and over, like the blaring of a red alert, the memory flashed in his mind. It appeared that despite Nyman’s resistance, his instincts had chosen. He was going to fight his way out, just like last time.

~~~ Lieutenant Nyman, Chief Counselor
Saoir’s instincts kicked in as well. His in the form little frills on the back of his neck fluttering as a subtle warning and a testament to the programming of the simulation. He touched them as he turned to Nyman, his gaze stoic. “That path,” Saoir pointed to the less traveled, more mysterious corridor, “The well traveled path feels more....dangerous while the least traveled feels like there’s more than meets the eye. Let’s go there, but keep your senses sharp.” He moved toward the least traveled path.
As he ventured down the eerie corridor, Saoir felt a surge of anticipation. The simulated environment seemed to resonate with his instincts, making him acutely aware of the potential dangers lurking in the shadows.
“Stay close, Nyman. This ain’t just about rescuing, it’s about navigating the unknown,” Saoir whispered, his hand firmly gripping the phaser in his hand tightly.
(Transporter Op/Security)
The lights continued to buzz intermittently, keeping a low orange-yellow hue within the confines of the corridor. As the two officers continued on their path, they would begin to notice that there were rows and rows of ODN cable lining the floors, almost as if the Romulans were having to jury-rig some of the technology on this station.
“Transporter signals, someone knows we’re here, find them!”
-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-
Lieutenant Nyman reflexively pulled back into a corner, keeping his phaser hip-height and ready. Though not technically an adrenaline rush, it was similar, manifesting as a series of short, panting breathes. He observed the scans from the tactical gear, if that could give him any clue to where the others might have beamed to.
|Lt. Nyman,
Chief Counselor|
There appeared to be two small groups of blips on two sides of the room. This appeared to be some sort of small Engineering hub. As Nyman recieved a scan of the room, he’d have noticed that the consoles powered by the running lines of cable seemed to be drawing power from an outside source… “The Reinhardt is under Romulan control, we have taken the Captain hostage, Starfleet will be quick to respond… stand ready!”
-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix (Narrator): Chief of Security-
Saoir’s eyes narrowed as he absorbed the information. The situation had escalated, and the stakes were higher than he initially thought. He gestured to Lieutenant Nyman to follow him closely as they moved through the engineering hub.
“The Captain’s been taken hostage. We need to find a way to disable their control over the Reinhardt,” Saoir muttered, his mind working quickly to formulate a plan. placed his phaser on the console, feeling the vibrations of the power lines. , Saoir’s instincts flared up once again. He could sense that they were being watched. The tension in the air was thick, and he whispered to Nyman, ” We’re not alone in here.” Saoir’s fingers typed on the control panels, attempting to access the station’s systems. The ODN cables seemed to be intricately connected, hinting at a makeshift setup by the Romulans. He needed to find a weakness, a vulnerability that could be exploited.
Saoir, Transporter/Security
The translation system within the tactical gear sprang into life as the computer blinked up a warning in ancient Romulan: ENTER SECURITY AUTHORISATION CODE
