Iphigenia entered the spacious conference room that was adorned with trajectoryand star maps. Most of the away team had already taken their seats, their expectant faces turned towards her. She began, “The planet we are about to visit is a class M planet. It boasts traces of copper, and there’s a reasonable amount of water. However, the presence of rust particles in the atmosphere has led our science team to strongly recommend the use of Evo suits.”

Her gaze swept over the attentive crew as she continued, “Due to high interference in the planet’s vicinity, our transporters are rendered ineffective. Therefore, we will have to rely on shuttlecraft for our descent. We will be deploying two Armadillo-class shuttles, departing from Flight Deck 13. But before that, we will gather for one final meeting in the Pilots Briefing Lounge.”

Turning her attention to the selection of shuttle pilots, she noted, “I will need two officers who are skilled pilots to navigate these shuttles.” As she spoke, Jackson swiftly raised his hand, and she acknowledged him with a nod, saying, “Great, just one more to go.”

She continued with her briefing, “Saoir will be handling the transporter, while Commander Vrenek will be in charge of the ship during my absence, monitoring our journey to the planet. Lieutenant Ruuk has thoughtfully prepared basic equipment packets for each of you. I emphasize the importance of vigilance while we are on the planet. Our systems may indicate no viable life forms, but in my experience, there is always a margin of error. Safety should be our top priority.”

Adam took over when the Captain finished, he pressed a command and the display showed an image of the planet and the meteorological report “According to the latest scans there will be heavy electrical storms. They are predicted to begin an hour or so after the planned landing time and are due to last for a few hours, two at minimum six maximum. But for those hours the away team will be unable to leave the planet” The image changed to show the composition of said storm, it was concentrated in the upper atmosphere “The storms shouldn’t have an effect on the mission beyond grounding the shuttles”

“Do we know if these storms will disrupt sensor effectiveness at all?” Ruuk asked. The role of sensors and tricorders would be quite central to their work on the planet.

Iphigenia considered Ruuk’s question and replied, “The storms shouldn’t interfere with our sensors significantly, but it’s crucial to stay alert for any unexpected fluctuations. Ruuk, ensure the sensor arrays are calibrated before descent. Jackson, coordinate with the pilots to account for potential turbulence during the storms. We can’t afford any surprises.”

She turned to address the entire team, “Remember, our mission is to gather data on the planet’s resources. We havent picked up any scans of lifeforms on the planet so that should make the mission that much easier. In any case we must stay focused, follow the protocols, and report any anomalies immediately. See you all in the Pilots Lounge in 30.”

As the team began to disperse, Iphigenia approached Ruuk and Magnusson, “Ruuk, prioritize the geological scans. I want detailed information on those copper traces. They look a little strange the the composition is not exactly like that of the copper on Earth. It could mean something. Magnusson, I know it is not in you usual duties but could you make sure the shuttles are prepped for adverse weather conditions? Our success depends on meticulous preparation.”

Magnus nodded “Aye Ma’am” He answered simply. Mentally he went through the checklist of things required against what they’d have in stock, additional harsh weather gear and tertiary power supplies would be a start.

James poked a hand at the moment and said, “Captain, I can help with that too.” He meant prepping shuttles. He worked in a shuttle bay before joining the fleet. Even that was years ago, he’s seen the data from the probe and he was ready to make some mechanical adjustments for the ‘birds’.

Adam inclined his head “That would be appreciated” He said simply.

Iphigenia glanced around the room, her gaze firm on each officer. “Very well. Mr Meylan will you also make sure we have enough supplies for our stay on the planet, and can you have Ensign Little focus on the shuttles?”

As the officers dispersed to their assigned tasks, Iphigenia approached Adam. “The interruption in the communication array is making nervous. I want to establish a constant link with the ship in case we encounter something unexpected down there. We can’t afford to lose contact with them, especially in these uncertain conditions. Any updates or anomalies, report directly to me.” Her focus shifting to the large viewscreen displaying the swirling clouds of the planet. “We’re in uncharted territory, but the mission remains. Let’s make sure we’re prepared for whatever awaits us out there.”
As the crew worked to fortify the shuttles against the environment of the planet belpw. Iphigenia headed to the pilot’s breifing room to prepare for departure.
