“Fill me in, y’all must know bah now that there’s a new discovery on this ship once an hour.”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Nyman smirked,

“ I guess I’m still getting used to it.”

After a pause to take another spoonful of soup, he continued,

“I’m still pretty new around here, remember. About how have you two been aboard?”

His question was directed at both of them equally. While waiting for a response, he continued slowly working on finishing his lunch.

“Not long before you Counsellor, Ah have bin in Security now for a little longer.”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“Oh really?” Nyman commented, “I bet you’ve seen your fair share of things working in security though.”

In a way, being in the security seemed much more exciting to Lieutenant Nyman. He liked his job a lot, but it was mostly a desk job. In a way, he might have been envious that it was so normal for exciting things to happen to other people.

Ash chuckled, ‘What kinda Security Officer would Ah be if Ah told you all about that now huh?’

Nyman responded with a slight shrug, “A very careless one, I suppose. I mean, it’s not like I could tell you everything I’ve seen over the years either.”

Some people, but especially humans, will tell you their whole life story if you just listen long enough. Ash, on the other hand, seemed to understand that this is not ideal. Lieutenant Nyman wasn’t sure if this was because she was Trill, or a security officer, or both. Either way, it was something he kind of admired.

Ash shifted in her chair slightly, “Not hiding anything Ah should know about are you Lieutenant?”

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

Lieutenant Nyman laughed at first, before taking another drink of cola. Afterwards, while contemplating the nearly empty bottle in his hand a more stern look wash over his face. As the smile faded he set the bottle delicately down on the table.

“Not intentionally, no. Of course if you have security concerns about a specific crew member, Lieutenant, you can put in a request for their phycological records,”

He knew exactly that’s not what Mavix was asking. The redirect was intentional. For the sake of the Ensign at the table who up until this point, gave the impression he wouldn’t stay quiet about finding out.

“Without the proper paperwork in order, I’m afraid I can’t help you.”

“Proper paperwork f’what exactly?” Ash felt a chill up her spine for some reason, though she couldn’t pinpoint why.

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“Well, all medical information, including psychiatric information, is confidential. So if you absolutely needed to know something, you should talk to the Captain or XO first.”

Nyman leaned back a little, his manner turning back into a relaxed, casual friendliness. A faint smile returned a grew as he spoke.

“So,” he continued, again changing the subject,
“Before this I served mostly on space stations. There wasn’t really a lot of exploration you could do, except on a science station. Even then, unless you’re really into geology or microbes there’s usually not much interesting either. I’d have to say, I’m enjoying being on a proper ship.”

“Not nervous at the thought of combat?” Ash asked with genuine interest.

-Lieutenant Ashara Mavix: Chief of Security-

“That depends on the situation.” he responded,

“What we’re up against, what shape the ship’s in. But in general, it’s not really something I worry about. A lot would have to go wrong before it comes down to the Chief Counselor to defend the ship.”

Ash arched an eyebrow, “Maybe Ah could show ye a thing or two?”

Saoir, feeling a bit out of place but wanting to contribute, chimed in with a nervous smile, “You know, it might not be a bad idea, Lieutenant. Learning some basic self-defense techniques wouldn’t hurt anyone. Plus, it could be a great team-building exercise for the crew. What do you think, Lieutenant Mavix?”
