~ OOC: Captain says CMO is aware Todd is Vendorian. This is going to be interesting. -Ava ~

Lieutenant Nyman reported to Alpha Sickbay. Due to the usual ‘security reasons’, the CMO of the ship was required to oversee his medical exam, as well as confirm and register his RFID implant. To the other NE’s going about their business in sickbay, he appeared just like any other human male. This gave him a certain level of comfort. It was instinctual to want to blend it, and he was satisfied with his ability to successfully avoid drawing attention. An unassuming yet productive part of the operation of Star Fleet. So he stood quietly adjacent to the entrance to the CMO’s office, reading the latest from FNN while waiting to be called in.

“Enter,” Brad called, looking up as Nyman entered. “Ah, lieutenant, welcome aboard. I have your file - straight from the captain, actually - right here. Why don’t you take a seat and I’ll run through the preliminary paperwork and then we can get your exams over with?” He glanced back at the file and then went to grab a PADD>

Lieutenant Nyman sat down and observed the doctor quietly before he spoke up.

“That would be preferable. I don’t think you’ll find anything too severe,” the thought was interrupted by a small chuckle, “At least, I hope not, right?”

-bump-

“That is the hope,” Brad jokingly confirmed. A minute later, he looked up from the paperwork. “Alright, let’s get to those exams. Anything I should be aware of that’s not in the file?”

Brad Maxwell, CMO

“Nothing new worth reporting,” Nyman responded. There were probably things on file that not even he was aware of, given the amount of testing he was put through before joining Star Fleet.

The Federation had a surprising amount of information available on Vendorians given how uncommon they were. By studying defectors like Nyman, researchers were able to at least get baseline measurements for what was typical for their species. In addition, it was possible to observe certain aspects of health by how well they mimicked the biology of whatever species they replicated. Most measurements would read normal for the species, and others would be ‘abnormal’ in specific and predictable ways.

Nyman hoped this would mean that he could do the exam without being in base form. But this was really up to the doctor to decide.

“Excellent. I have enough data on your species to allow you to stay as you are now for these exams, given your expected healthiness,” Brad stated, pulling a medical tricorder from a case and working through his standard exam procedures. “All of your measurements look about how they should,” Brad noted, “and I have no reason to keep you here longer. I would like you to stop by weekly for a month or so, just so I can get better baselines for you as an individual. If there are no concerns, you’re free to go, Lieutenant.”

Brad Maxwell, CMO

“Well, no news is good news,” Nyman responded.

He liked Brad, at least more than the other Star Fleet medical officers he’s met. Brad didn’t bombard him with irrelevant questions, got right to the exam and got it over with in a timely manner. By far the best experience he has had with any doctor.

He stood up with a small stretch,

“If that’s all, guess I’ll see you in a week.”

“I’ll see you then,” Brad agreed, smiling, “Unless of course you get yourself hurt before then somehow. Let’s hope it’s in a week.” He gathered up all his equipment, raising a hand in a wave as Nyman moved towards the door.
