Iphigenia stepped out of the turbolift on deck 13 and strolled past a few of the contained anomalies on that deck. There was a Pegasus, sleeping peacefully. She could hear the adorable furry gremlin emitting faint squeaks, blinking its eyes in the hopes of catching her attention. The anxiety-inducing plant was securely sealed within a vault, encased in titanium lead with a heavy shatterproof glass front. Recently, they acquired a new addition to their collection—a football-shaped stone with purple color and silver swirling striations. It materialized in a pressure negative tritanium lead vault similar to the one housing the plant.

“It appears harmless, but I sense something peculiar about it. There’s a subtle yet persistent urge to hold it.” Turning away from the glass vault that held the stone, she tapped her communication badge and spoke, “Lt. Ruuk, once you finish reviewing the data on the stone, please join me in the containment area on deck 13. I have a question for you.”

Ruuk had just finished reading when the message came through. =/\= “Acknowledged. I am on my way” =/\=. Ruuk ensure he correctly signed out of the terminal before leaving it. This was a high level of security clearance he’d been given, the responsibility that came with it weighed heavy on his mind. With the terminal cleared and secured he set off to Deck 13.

Ash couldn’t help but remain in awe of some of the artifacts the Levi had collected over the years, and stretched to a full smile when Pegasus wriggled excitedly as the two officers passed, “Just another day in the office, right Ma’am?”

“Indeed, just another day in the office,” Iphigenia replied with a wry smile, appreciating Ash’s lightheartedness. “Though sometimes, the artifacts we come across tend to defy expectations. It keeps things interesting, doesn’t it?”
She paused a moment then said, “Lieutenant, do you sense anything peculiar? Like an urge to pick up the stone?” She wondered if the stone affected one based on their biology.

Ruuk calmly approached the two in conversation. “Captain, Lieutenant.” He nodded to each on by way of a greeting.

Ash arched an eyebrow and grinned at the CO, “As much as this little trinket does look kinda chic, the only urge Ah have is to solve this mys’ery ma’am.”

Iphigenia chuckled at Ash’s response. “Well, solving the mystery is indeed our priority here, Lieutenant. Let’s focus on that,” she said with a nod. Turning to Ruuk, she acknowledged his presence. “Lieutenant Ruuk, good to see you.” Just then Deshara, the science Cadet, approached the three of them with a PaDD in her hands. Iphigenia raised her eyebrows at the cadet and asked, “Any insights on the artifact or its containment?”

Cadet Toussaint glanced at the stone for a moment before responding. “Captain, I’ve been analyzing the artifact’s composition and studying its effects. It appears to emit a low-level energy field, but it’s not strong enough to be detected by standard equipment. However, upon closer inspection, I’ve noticed some subtle changes in the behavior and brainwave patterns of individuals who come into close proximity with the stone.”

Cadet Toussaint, Science

Iphigenia’s nodded impatiently. “Yes, yes, we know that much. Could you elaborate on these changes, cadet? Are they consistent among different individuals?”

Deshara nodded. “Certainly, Captain. It seems that when someone approaches the stone, there’s a slight increase in neural activity, particularly in areas associated with curiosity and exploration. It’s almost as if the stone triggers an innate desire to investigate further. I cant be sure, at leat not until someone actually comes in contact with the stone but there may be to be a strong desire in the individual to carry out the will of the stone. “

Iphigenia exchanged a glance with Ash, contemplating Cadet Toussaint’s observations. “Fascinating,” she remarked. “So, it seems that the stone might indeed have some effect on individuals, potentially influencing their behavior. Lieutenant Ruuk, I want you to continue research with Cadet Toussaint here and find out if you are able to find any history of an object such as this in Starfleet’s databases. We need to understand this artifact fully.”

“Aye Captain” Ruuk said

Iphigenia then turned to Ash. “Lieutenant, you and I are going to put on hazmat suits. I want a closer look at this stone.”

“Ain’t it a funny thing Cap’n, so do Ah!” Ash grinned as she followed Henao to the containment suit storage area.

Ruuk opened his mouth, he was about to urge the Captain to be cautious, be he caught himself and stopped the words from leaving his mouth. ‘I’m sure the Captain knows to be careful’ he told himself internally.
“With your permission Captain, I’d like to remain and observe yours and the Chief’s interaction with the stone before continuing our search through the Database.”

Iphigenia considered Ruuk’s request for a moment before responding. “Granted, Lieutenant Ruuk. Your presence here will be valuable in case any unforeseen circumstances arise. However, prioritize your safety and keep a safe distance from the stone. We don’t want to risk anyone else being affected by its influence.”

With that settled, Iphigenia proceeded to the containment suit storage area. She quickly equipped herself with hazmat suits designed to protect her from any potential dangers associated with the stone.

Once she was fully prepared, Iphigenia returned to the chamber where the mysterious stone was located. She approached it cautiously, aware of its potential effects on their behavior. Cadet Toussaint observed from a safe distance, ready to document any notable reactions or changes in neural activity.

As Iphigenia got closer to the stone, they could feel a strange energy emanating from it. It seemed to beckon her, inviting her to explore its mysteries further. She exchanged exchanged glances with Ruuk, Toussaintand Mavix, her way of acknowledging the allure and potential danger of the artifact.

With a determined expression, Iphigenia extended a gloved hand towards the stone, stopping just inches away. She wanted to assess the immediate effects before making direct contact. As her hand hovered near the stone, she felt a surge of curiosity and an overwhelming desire to touch it. However, she maintained her composure and fought against the influence. She turned to Lieutenant Mavix, wondering if she was experiencingthe same sensation.
After a few moments she took a deep breath, then quickly withdrew her hand and stepped back, regaining her focus. “We must proceed with caution. The stone’s influence is potent, but we can’t let it control us. Let’s maintain our objectivity and approach this scientifically. We need to understand its effects and potential implications. Cadet Toussaint, continue monitoring the neural activity and record any changes you observe.”

Ash felt herself rubbing her temples as the feeling of a strong headache crossed over her, “Well shoot, that thing sure is strong.”

Iphigenia felt a headache as well, she knew she needed to be careful not to let the stone’s influence cloud her judgment. She glanced at Lieutenant Ruuk, who was observing the situation closely, hoping he could offer some insight or assistance. However, she reminded herself to rely on her training and not to let her emotions get the better of her.

“We knew this artifact had powerful effects, but experiencing it firsthand is quite different,” Iphigenia said, trying to steady her voice. “Let’s continue our observations, but remember to stay vigilant. If anyone feels overwhelmed or affected beyond control, we must immediately step back and regroup. We’ve seen the potential risks and effects, and we can’t allow this artifact to fall into the wrong hands or unleash unknown dangers.”

As they prepared to leave the containment chamber, Iphigenia took a moment to reflect on the significance of their mission. They had encountered a powerful and mysterious artifact, and the responsibility to keep it contained and controlled weighed heavily on her mind.

Ash dropped to one knee and took out her tricorder, trying to guage if that could identify the types of radiation the artifact was giving off.
