The turbolift doors slid closed. “Deck 33” Ruuk said and the lift whirred into life. He was on his way to the check in for duty with Counselor - the last of his on-boarding formalities to complete.
Ruuk’s feelings heading into this meeting were pretty indistinct. All of his previous encounters with ship’s counselors had gone well, yet, counselors seemed a bit of an enigma too him, primarily because his work seldom crossed over with theirs.
No sooner had the Turbolift started, it had stopped again, reaching the desired deck. Ruuk stepped out and strolled the corridors until he found the door marked ‘Counseling Center’. He pressed the door chime, and waited to be called in.

After a brief pause, the door opened, revealing a serene and inviting office space. Whenever Ruuk decided to enter the space, there would be a comfortable seating area with a small table adorned with a vase of fresh flowers that were native to Risa. The room would exude an air of tranquility, designed to put visitors at ease.Surra was prepared to greet Lieutenant Ruuk with a welcoming smile. Her eyes were kind and a calm demeanor, gestured for him to take a seat. “Welcome, Lieutenant Ruuk. I’m Counselor Surra Almikaz.” Her voice was gentle and soothing. “Please, have a seat. How can I assist you today?”

“Thank you” Dayner said as he eased himself into a chair. “I’m here to report for my boarding check-in” He said.
As he sat he took in the pleasing environment. He liked it. Sometimes the insides of Starships could be dull and uninspiring, but this was much different, and very lovely. This began to give him ideas on how he might decorate his quarters or his office space.

Surra greeted Lieutenant Ruuk with a warm smile as he settled into the chair, from her perspective he clearly appreciated the soothing atmosphere of the office space. She listened as he began explaining his purpose for visiting.

Nodding in understanding, Surra replied, “I’m glad you’re here. As you may have noticed, I am not the regular Counselor on the Leviathan. I’m currently filling in for Dr. Witney. Can I make a confession? I took this temporary assignment out of curiosity. I expected the ship to have a haunted aura, but it’s actually not as bad as I anticipated.” She smiled, taking a sip of her tea, which still had remnants of steam rising from it.

“But enough of my rambling. Shall we get started? Please tell me about yourself. Why don’t we begin with your experience thus far aboard the ship?”

“It’s curious you should mention that” Ruuk said. “I also anticipated this ship to have a ‘haunted aura’ as you mentioned. But likewise I have found things to be quite pleasant aboard.”
“My experience aboard the ship has been positive, so far.” He said as he reviewed the beginning of his time on the Leviathan in his mind. “Though I must admit, I’m still feeling uneasy about this posting. This is very much a new field for me. And I have not encountered most of the unique aspects that this ship has in-store for me. I’m not too concerned though, because I am comfortable that time and experience will quell these feelings of uneasiness.

Surra listened as Lieutenant Ruuk shared his thoughts and feelings about his experience aboard the ship. She could sense his mix of curiosity and uneasiness, which was understandable given his new field of work and the unique aspects of the Leviathan
“I one hundred percent understand where you are coming from, Lieutenant Ruuk,” Surra replied, offering him a reassuring smile. “Starting in a new field can indeed be challenging, especially when faced with unfamiliar territory. However, your positive outlook and willingness to learn will be valuable assets as you navigate through this experience.”

She took a moment to sip her tea, allowing the comforting warmth to wash over her before continuing. “Remember that it’s natural to feel uneasy when stepping into the unknown. Embracing that discomfort can actually be an opportunity for growth. As you gain more time and experience aboard the Leviathan, you’ll likely find yourself becoming more comfortable with the ship’s unique aspects.”

Surra leaned forward slightly, her tone gentle but encouraging. “In the meantime, don’t hesitate to reach out for support whenever you need it. Whether it’s discussing any concerns, seeking guidance, or simply needing someone to talk to, my door is always open. Building a support network is essential, and I’m here to assist you in any way I can.”

She paused, giving Ruuk a moment to absorb her words. “Now, tell me, what are your specific areas of responsibility aboard the ship? There are many unique souls aboard the ship. I’d love to hear about the interactions you’ve had so far with the crew.”

With the briefing on the security clearance he’d been given still ringing in his ears, Ruuk chose his next words very carefully.
“Well, I suppose the sum of my role boils down to the safe containment and monitoring of anomalies aboard the ship”. He paused a moment. It sounded so simple when he put it that way.
“I haven’t had much of a chance to interact with all of the crew. But I have had some interaction with the Engineering and RTF department… and the Captain, or course. She has been so supportive since I’ve come onboard. And she has expressed that the support will be continuous. I so appreciate that, it’s certainly helped to settle my nerves. “

“It’s wonderful to hear that Captain has been supportive and understanding. A good leader can make a significant difference in fostering a positive work environment. I’m glad she has been there for you during this transition period.”

Surra leaned back in her chair, her expression warm and encouraging. “Now, let’s delve a bit deeper into your role. The containment and monitoring of anomalies sound like crucial responsibilities. Have you ever done anything similar within any of your other roles in Starfleet and have you had the opportunity to see the anomalies that are currently contained on the ship?”
As she spoke, Surra made a few notes on her datapad, capturing important details about Ruuk’s position and the nature of his work.
