Iphigenia took a moment to gather her thoughts before the arrival of the shuttle carrying the Artifact from section 31. She glanced at the various monitors on her desk, displaying data and reports from ongoing operations. The room itself was adorned with photos of her brother, his family, herself and her father as well as a few intriguing trinkets, such as Risian Incenses, a baseball and platinum brass knuckles, items collected or given to her over the years. A single large window offered a view of the bustling stars in away galaxies that speckled the skyoutside as the darkness of their location encroached upon the Leviathan. Her attention turned back to her computer terminal, where she quickly reviewed the newly uploaed information she had received about the Artifact. Section 31 was known for their clandestine operations and missions that were often dangerous or of significant interest to various factions in the galaxy. Iphigenia knew that dealing with such artifacts required caution and expertise.She activated her terminal and brought up the latest from Lieutenant Ruuk and Drang. Both officers had extensive experience in dealing with hazardous materials and were trained to handle delicate situations. Iphigenia trusted their skills and knew they would handle the task with utmost care.
While waiting for the arrival of the shuttle agent, Iphigenia began drafting a detailed plan for the artifact’s containment and analysis. Her desk was cluttered with padds, with notes scribbled across them as she carefully considered the best approach. She knew that understanding the nature of the Artifact was crucial to ensuring its safe containment and preventing any potential threats.
As she worked, Iphigenia’s comm badge chirped, Ensign Jackson’s voice echoed acoss the comm, =^=Captain Lieutenant Shepherd has docked safely. Lieutenants Ruuk and Drang are recovering the object and will transport it to the containment facility. We will be there shortly. Our ETA is approximately 5 minutes.=^=

Satisfied with the progress, she returned her focus to the task at hand, waited for them to arrive.

A moment later, the voice of Lieutenant Ashara Mavix came over the CO’s combadge, “=^= Mavix to Captain Henao, would you like me to join you in the Shuttlebay to greet our guest, Ah git the feeling the next few hours is gonna be interesting. =^=”

As the turbolift on the bridge came to a stop and opened up and out stepped Alexandra along with the security ensign that was escorting her she instinctively went to the Ready room and rang the chime on her own ready to meet with the captain and explain what this thing was properly that way she could go back to the Chimera and resume her undercover post

When the chime rang, Iphigenia calmly beckoned, “Please, come in.” She patiently awaited Alexandra’s entrance, but Ensign Jackson unexpectedly entered ahead. Taking his place near the door, he intended to stay and eavesdrop on the imminent conversation between Lieutenant Shephard and Captain Henao. Iphigenia arched an eyebrow at him and acknowledged, “Thank you, Ensign Jackson, for escorting Lieutenant Shephard here. That will be all.” Ensign Jackson’s mouth gaped open, and though he initially contemplated protesting, he ultimately thought better of it. Instead, he glanced at Alexandra and silently mouthed the words, “Come find me when you’re done here,” followed by a wink, before reluctantly exiting the room.

Once Ensign Jackson had departed, Iphigenia turned her attention to Alexandra and stated, “Lieutenant Shephard, please take a seat. I’m pleased you could join us. What can you share with me about this… ‘artifact’ you’ve brought aboard my ship?”

Mavix was at the Ready Room door within five minutes, she gave a friendly nod to Jackson as she stepped inside and turned to the Captain and Alexandra, “Hope y’all didn’t start without me?”

She rolled her eyes at the ensign and took the seat “Thank you captain…Welp” she said pulling out a data chip for the captain she slid it over “Pop that in and I will start it just gives you a visual of it

Once the captain had popped the chip into her computer Alexandra started

“Its a Stone made of some kind of Polished Gemstone purple in color with Silver swirling striations laced through it. this Gemstone is 11.25 Inches or 28.5 Centimeters long and has a circumference of 28 inches or 71 centimeters in the middle It is shaped like an American or Gridiron Football This stone crash-landed on the Planet HP4960-Z this planet is home to a Species that have just entered their Industrial revolution This species is called the Mar’Zek they are a species that evolved from amphibians there is a full packed on them on the disk if you are interested in that detail The stone seems to have some form of intelligence about it Psionic Intelligence at that Just looking at the real thing makes you want to pick it up and hold it then it begins to share “Secrets” with the one holding it.” She began as the computer screen began showing a display on the stone in the crate below

“Hell I only caught the smallest glimpse on the Chimera before I brought it here and I was tempted the whole trip to pick it up and hold it My wildest dreams were flashing in my head the whole way luckily Section 31 trains us to resist such mental attacks this effect though is doubled on a Telepathic species once in contact it will filly ones head with their wildest dreams however it begins to feed on your morals and self-control eventually it will begin to suggest vile war crimes and it will seem completely reasonable the leader of the Mar’zek was brainwashing his people to dig him a massive underground palace and it was Gaudy as all hell trust me! He was able to however being in contact with the stone invent Jet Propulsion many decades earlier than his people should have been able to do! OH it also has the ability to shield itself and anything it wants from sensors and scanners It took me jury-rigging the sensors just to break through and get our away team the briefest glimpse into the main base of this High Commandant” she said her ears flicking and tail swishing lightly

“How far did the crew of the Chimera get? If we can’t get any closer than they did, maybe we need an entirely new approach?”

Captain Iphigenia listened to Alexandra’s description of the artifact and its capabilities as she reviewed it on the view screen. As Alexandra finished her explanation, Lieutenant Mavix posed a question about the progress made by the crew of the Chimera and suggested considering a different approach. Captain Iphigenia took a moment to gather her thoughts before responding. “Thank you for the information, Lieutenant Shephard. It seems we’re dealing with a highly powerful and potentially dangerous artifact.”

She addressed Ashara’s question, “As for the crew of the Chimera, they managed to make some progress, but their contact with the stone was limited. They were able to gather some initial data, but their exploration was cut short due to the overwhelming mental effects of the artifact.” She paused briefly, contemplating the situation. “Given what we know so far, it’s clear that direct contact with the stone poses significant risks. Lieutenant Mavix, your suggestion of a new approach is valid. We need to find a way to study the artifact without succumbing to its influence. Our top priority is the safety of our crew and the preservation of our moral compass.”

The Captain turned her attention back to Alexandra. “Lieutenant Shephard, how long will you staying aboard the Leviathan? I want to know more about these Mar’zek. Any additional information you can provide on them would be helpful.”

She turned back to Lieutenant Mavix and said, “We must be prepared so we do not face another episode like what happened with the spores infecting the crew and causing anxiety and fear. We must proceed with caution and prioritize the safety of our crew. We need to find a way to study the artifact remotely, without physical contact. I will touchbase with Lieutenant Osedi and Lieutenant Meylan. Perhaps we can deploy drones or specialized equipment to gather data and analyze the stone from a safe distance. Our experts will work on developing countermeasures to shield against its mental effects. We can’t risk losing control or compromising our principles. Once we have a solid plan, we’ll reconvene to discuss the next steps. Any suggestions or concerns are welcome.”

The Chimera crew did not get a chance to study it at all in fact the crew beamed it into the crate that it’s in now I was there to put the lid on the thing Then I offered to put it in the cargo bay and switched it out for a fake took that crate to my private shuttle under the orders of my Section 31 superior and flew it here as far as the Chimera knows I am still there and this shuttle does not exist still the point is Honestly Just looking at it will cause the temptation to pick it up even if you are in another room This thing is almost like that magic ring from those old fantasy novels!” she said except that it is doubly effective on Telepathic species” she added simply

Turning back to the captain she pointed at the screen “I was not on the away team to be honest I was on the ship the whole time But the information packet about them is on that chip I gave you as for how long I need to get back to the Chimera before I am really missed so not much longer I just came here to deliver this thing inform you of what we know about it and caution you about touching the damn thing” she said with a smile

Bringing up the information the computer presented the following

The Mar’Zek, are a sentient species of humanoids that evolved from a Salamander-like creature. The smooth scales that make up their skin are extremely tough and come in many colors Naturally green, orange, and red, however, full body dye treatments are a regular practice. They have Plantigrade-style legs ending in prehensile feet, much like an earth Chimpanzee. Their noses are flush with their skin, hinting at their reptilian heritage. their ears are long thin and pointed they can be upwards of 12 inches in length. Instead of hair the species grows what is known as “Head Tails” These tendrils work in the same way as earth Lizard tails, they can be removed painlessly, and grow back naturally. these can be sculpted into different styles, the males even grow smaller shorter ones on their faces similar to facial hair. The Iris’ of their eyes are chiefly amber, orange, or green, However, with a simple painless procedure, and a dye they can change them to any color they desire. their pupils are horizontal slits and have a nictitating membrane behind their eyelids. For the species it is desirable to be as colorful as possible, this may have to do with the fact the species lives in a dreary swamp world, or it may be that their eyesight is estimated to be just under the capabilities of a Vulcan’s capable of seeing colors far more vibrantly and thus find color to be beautiful. They also have incredibly keen low-light vision, normal light levels for a human may even be somewhat blinding to the Mar’Zek. They are in the middle of their Industrial Revolution period however due to extraterrestrial influence they have some technology that is upwards of 130 years advanced, The star system of which their planet is a part of contains 9 planetary bodies orbiting a Binary pair of stars one white Dwarf, and one Brown Dwarf. With HP-4960Z as the fourth planet of this system, the rest of the planets are of varying types. The first four are fairly close to the stars, with HP-4960Z in the innermost edge of this system’s habitable zone. The planet has a somewhat unstable core creating highly active Geothermal pockets. thus helping to keep the environment warm enough to support life, as the Planet itself is trapped in perpetual twilight. The Mar’Zek have a Carnivorous diet and hunt for food as well as raise it on farms. However, their culture seems to be based on a tenet of living in harmony with nature. despite being in their Industrial Revolution, they strive to make sure that their advancements and such do not do damage to the planet. Their hunting is viewed as keeping balance with nature because 90% of creatures do not have a Natural Predator other than the Mar’Zek. They also have a venomous bite; this is an evolutionary hangover that they still sometimes use in specific situations.

The Mar’zek mostly live in large ocean-going crafts these “Town/City Ships” as the amount of land available to them is very limited the planet being 99.5% water are usually tied to one clan or another a Mar’Zeks skin color indicates the clan they are apart of Or if they are simply one of the three natural skin colors they are considered “Unclanned” these do not belong to any clan and are usually homeless and treated very poorly by those in a clan. the Mar’Zek also use Airships in the style of Blimps or Dirigables their language is very similar to that of Pacific Islanders’ native languages on Earth they also have a metal which they use that reacts to Scans from tricorders and ship sensors the metal begins to resonate this metal is used in weapons as well as specific other items the metal can be turned to a specific frequency all of which the Mar’Zek can produce with simply their voice and rhythmic stomping so if a key of this metal is made and subsequently misplaced on ones home by matching the voice and stomping that the key was set too the Mar’Zek can find it once it starts to resonate

Iphigenia listened intently as Alexandra explained the situation, her expression growing increasingly serious as she grasped the gravity of the matter at hand. “Thank you for providing further clarity, Lieutenant Shephard. It seems there was a misunderstanding regarding the extent of the Chimera crew’s examination of the artifact. Your warning about its influence is duly acknowledged.” She nodded, fully comprehending the potential dangers.

“Regarding your remaining time aboard the Leviathan, I want to express my gratitude for the prompt delivery of the artifact and the valuable information you’ve shared. Your presence aboard the Chimera is crucial, so please prepare to return promptly. I assume Captain Andreassen is aware of your mission? Rest assured, we will arrange for the secure departure of your shuttle from the Leviathan back to your ship. Additionally, I appreciate the inclusion of the information packet on the Mar’Zek. It will prove invaluable as we delve deeper into unraveling the mysteries surrounding the artifact.”

Shifting her focus to Lieutenant Mavix, Captain Iphigenia emphasized the significance of the newly acquired knowledge. “Given the information we have received, it is absolutely imperative that we exercise the utmost caution in our approach. Lieutenant Shephard’s account of the artifact’s allure and its effects on telepathic species only reinforces the need for strict adherence to protocols. Underestimating its power is a risk we cannot afford to take.”

“I could work with Engineerin’ to establish some kind of forcefield around the stone that could screen the crew from the mental effects. short pf a holographic crew I can’t....” Ash’s eyes went wide as she realised what she had just said, “Wait a min’t, a holographic staff investigating the rock, that could be it!”

Iphigenia’s eyes lit up as she considered Ash’s suggestion. “A holographic staff? That’s an intriguing idea, Ash. It could potentially provide us with an additional layer of protection while investigating the artifact. We could program the holographic crew to simulate telepathic species and observe their reactions to the stone without risking the actual crew. We’ll need to coordinate with Engineering to see if it’s technically feasible. If we can create a forcefield around the artifact to shield the crew from its mental effects and deploy a holographic investigative team, it would minimize the risks involved.” She pndered the scenario in her head a moment then continued, “However, we must remember that we’re dealing with a highly potent object here. Even with these precautions in place, we cannot afford any mistakes. Lieutenant Shephard’s account has made it abundantly clear that the allure of the artifact is strong, and we must remain vigilant.”

She looked at Lieutenant Shephard, “I trust you can make it back to your shuttle without an escort, unless you want one? If so, Lieutenant Mavix could take you.”

“Actually one Captain Andreassen has no idea nobody on the Chimera does Its called being undercover for a reason! two that idea with Holo Crew might be best idea to study this Only biological beings have been in contact so far so that might give you guys the best chances to study it… three yes captain I can get back there myself The Chimera is a Mjiolnir class ship as well so I know my way around” she laughed getting up she offered a hand to the Captain “Thank you for taking this thing because otherwise I am sure my higherups in Section 31 would have had me Torpedo it or if that did not work then Transport it into a Star!” she said heading for the door after shaking the captains hand

Iphigenia raised her eyes at Captain Andreassen’s not knowing Lieutenant Shephard had departed the Chimera, she wondered how she slipped away without being detected. However she decided not to pry into the matter as Lieutenant Shephard needed to begin her journey back. “I appreciate your consultation, if you’re certain you can return to the shuttle without an escort, then you may proceed.” With a firm handshake, Iphigenia bid farewell to Lieutenant Shephard as she headed for the door. “Safe travels, Lieutenant. If you can, send us word of your safe return to the Chimera.”

As Lieutenant Shephard exited, Iphigenia turned her attention back to the task at hand, contemplating the intricate web of challenges and possibilities lying ahead.

Alexandra hit her commbadge at that moment =^=”Lieutenant Shepard to Voidcat one to beam out” she said and a site-to-site transporter activated though Not triggering any of the systems on the Leviathan Clearly this Lieutenant Shepard was a Special agent of some order to have such leeway! and with that word was sent that the Flying Angel Class shuttle was taking off and soon she was gone fading out to nothing as a cloaking device on the shuttle activated and allowed the Voidcat to slip into nothing
