Jaieh sat in her quarters and began to narrate a letter.
“Dear Mother,
It has been a long time since last I saw you. I feel badly about how we parted. If I had known… if I had known what was coming for the Empire, there’s no way I would have said what I did. I thought we would have decades yet to argue who was right. I thought I would have the chance for you to join me. I guess… If you want the news from here, I was promoted. I’m a Commander and the First Officer of a ship now. I serve under a good Captain, though at times I miss the practice of medicine. As complex as it is, it’s simpler in a way. There’s a simple objective to heal the sick and wounded. Command has diplomacy and dealing with officers above and below you. It’s delicate and complicated. The ship, the USS Leviathan, is a good ship with a good crew. If I’m going to be in command somewhere, I am glad it’s here.
