Iphigenia breathed out a loud sigh beforen she said, “Well now, I guess we should get started.” She motioned to the empty chair that had a PaDD in front of it and she took her seat. “Are you hungry, can I get you something to drink before we begin our conversation?”Henao, CO
“A water would be great,” Mown said. “Thank you, Captain. It’s nice to meet you in person. I am very grateful for the opportunity to be here.”
“I am glad you are here, Lieutenant Gworl. We have been in need of a Chief Tactical Officer for sometime. Turns out we don’t get too many officers jumping at the chance to be assigned to an ARU ship, despite the adventure that comes with the duty.”
“I mean, I can understand that. Facing anomolous beings can really make a person question their world view,” Mown said. “I guess I’m just… interested. That’s the truth, captain.”
He felt like he was rambling a little, but he had so many questions! He’d forgotten how disorienting orientation could really be, and it was just the beginning of the day!
He peered around the CIC.
She noticed he was looking around the CIC. “Do you like the layout of the ship? We don’t have a standard bridge like most ships. We need more than that for the missions we take on. We need a whole command center. I will show you around after our chat.”

“All the holosims and studying doesn’t measure up to the real rhing,” Mown admitted. “It’s real, and I’m excited to get my paws around these systems.”
She nodded as went to the replicator and requested a plain glass of water. If he wanted it otherwise she is sure he would have said so. Upon returning to the table she placed it in front of him.
Mown looked at the glass. He forgot to specify a bowl or goblet, as was his preference for lapping, but his diplomatic training kicked in, and he picked up the glass and took a couple restrained mouthfuls of water.
“So I won’t ask you to tell me how you are going to contribute to the ship as the CTO. I have your profile here,” she placed a hand on her PaDD, “and I think I have a pretty good idea what you are capable of. However I would like you to share something that is not in your profile. Whatever you are comfortable with and I will do the same.”

The open-endedness of the question threw Mown off guard. He though that they might discuss him time on previous ships, et cetera–but what to say when you could say anything?
He lapped his water again and thought–did she want a fun fact? A pithy comment? A story? A statement about what being a Starfleet officer meant to him? Something that was not on his chart.
“Okay,” Mown said slowly. “I must have been about 14 or 15. Still in boarding school back before the Academy, in this remote wooded arts school campus on the planet Riviera. All I can day was that it was in the kitchens of an old administrative building, and it scared the he’ll out of me.”
“Oh boy, do I have some boarding school stories for you.” She said shaking her head as she recalled the memories in her head.
“Same here,” Mown said. “The trouble we got into… All us kids from all over the Federation in this school on a colony in the Ochs system. It’s kinda crazy to think it was almost 20 years ago. I’d love to hear a story or two when you have the time.”
“But one Saturday, I was exploring the upper floors of an old administrative building, brought brick for brick from an old liberal arts university on Earth and reassembled on Riviera, when I saw it.”
“You have to believe me when I day that I’m not sure what I saw. But I believe I saw something there, way back when I was a kid. That’s part of the reason why I’m here.”
He looked at his Commanding Officer’s face with inscrutable cats eyes.

Her eyes widened with intriguement as she leaned forward folding her arms on the table, “Tell me. What did you see?”
Henao, CO
“It looked like an electric blue lady in a blue ballroom gown, maybe 1880s. Her mouth opened up in a small o, as if she was just as surprised to see me. I jumped and almost clung to the drop ceiling.” Mown admitted. “With my Starfleet training behind me, I want to say that it was an energy-based life form, but I don’t know if that’s exactly true. It was a long time ago.”
-CTO Mown Gworl
“Interesting.” Iphi said as the image he described came to life in her mind. “It does seem like it was an energy based lifeform. However, they real mystery is why would it appear in your room, at that time? Also you said her mouth was in an O shape. Was she trying to say something, was she screaming in agony?” These were all rhetorical questions that she was mind dumping. Still intrigued she said as she softly smacked her hand on the table, “Maybe she was sent to warn you about some foreboding incident, like the destruction of a plant or even your own death. I read about such things happening before. There was an incident, some time ago, on the Academy ship Challenger, where an Officer’s future self appeared to his present self to warn him of the destruction of a planetary system.” She paused for a moment then said, “So was that the only time you saw the entity? Did she ever reappear?”

Mown appreciated the Captain’s taking his… whatever you’d call it… experience? legitimately. He’d asked himself many of the same questions over the years, turning them over in his mind.
“It wasn’t my room, exactly. It was in this admin building where they had the headmaster’s office and the registrar. There was an old wood ballroom and Victorian gymnasium nobody ever used, and a kitchen on the second floor–where I was. It was the only time I saw her. Funny thing is, she was a campus legend: The Cerulean Lady.”

“A blue ancient ghost.” She said still with a thoughtful expression on her face. ” All the same, so called ghosts are just residential energy a being leaves behind. Maybe it was attached to the place. Too bad you never saw her again.”
“It wasn’t for lack of trying,” Mown said. “But I could never replicate the event, no.”
She tapped her fingers gers on the table as she presented a grinned at him. “So that is the defining moment in your life that caused you to accept an assignment on a ship that essentially goes on supernatural-like missions. You are braver than most. However, not everything we encounter will be terrifying, just strange for the most part and the uncertainty of it is what we have to be cautious about…just incase it’s something that can destroy all that we know.” There was a pause then she said, “Your job will be figuring out the best strategy for defending the ship and containing these anomalies in the most efficient way possible. It will be up to security to implement those strategies. You will have to work closely with the Chief of Security. I will introduce you to her after we are done here and your tour of the CIC. How are you under stressful situations? Tell me about one them?”
Henao, CO
“I’m looking forward to working with the Lieutenant,” Mown said. ” As for stressful situations… I have been though several, and all of them have one thing in common, Captain. I’m a musician as well as a Security Officer and pilot, and in my most stressful times, I’ve found the drum was even more useful to me than my phaser.”
He thought for a moment.
“When I was a junior officer aboard the Sasquatch, our runabout crashed on a moon with a pre-warp civilization, the Tw’lpi. Our universal communicators weren’t working, and I swear, we shared the language of music that night. I do not think they would have killed us, but they were certainly upset by our presence. The drum certainly helped them see us as something more than alien,” he finished seriously, clasping the glass in his paws.
-CTO Mown Gworl
“A musician? Oh I would love to hear you play. Music seems to be a universal language when it comes to certain situations. It also seems like a more…rewarding career. Why enlist in Starfleet? You could be on some exotic plant playing in your own band right now.”
