USS Leviathan

At Starbase 243 - Promenade - Cafe Au Lait

T’Mara studied the menu and did her best to ignore Bajoran waitress. The waitress wasn’t doing anything particularly annoying but T’Mara felt the pressure to meet her expectations and select a Vulcan dish. The menu had a large variety of offerings clearly geared to appeal to the variety of species stationed or making layovers at the Starbase. The problem was that T’Mara disliked most of the “Vulcan” dishes. It had been this way since her days at the Academy. That had been her first exposure to a significant number of Vulcans and they, naturally enough, tended to associate other Vulcans which included T’Mara. Though they understood that as a Vulcan raised from infancy by Humans would be a bit different, some of them seemed to take her dislike for most Vulcan dishes as a personal affront. Others immediately understood the logic.

“It is illogical to eat foods that you do not like when there are other foods available that you do like,” T’Mara had said frequently.

T’Mara closed the menu and handed it back to the waitress. “Hot Earl Grey tea with honey and three medialunas.”

“I’ll have that right out,” the waitress said and T’Mara nodded in return.

She settled back into the chair and watched the foot traffic through the front window of the cafe. A new ship. A new mission dealing with anomalies … species presumably though their biologies might be so different that they might stretch the definitions of life… It all sounded interesting. But for the moment, all there was to do was the wait for Leviathan to arrive… and start a whole new crew dealing with a Vulcan that didn’t meet their expectations.
