The Admiral’s handsome, charismatic features materialised onto the screen, the identity of the caller upending his customary smile for a fraction of a second. But other than that, the man didn’t miss a single beat.
“Ah, Commander Magnusson,” his tone was of one engaging in friendly chatter over coffee. “I was not expecting a call from you on this channel. Is everything okay over there?”

“No, Sir” Adam said simply, he kept a calm tone and his stony expression didn’t change a fraction as he scanned the Admirals face, taking in every detail he could “We have an anomaly lose that we believe is likely to have come from Hades. Anomaly ARU-2750” He paused to see if there was a reaction before moving on “Yesterday as we left the base you raised the classification level beyond me and the Captain, I am requesting that you lower the classification so we can learn what we can” He worded it as a fact not an accusation as if he were discussing changes in a Log.”

“Ah,” Roebuck inhaled with a sharpness that was almost apologetic. “That. Commander, I can only apologise, with full sincerity, for such an unacceptable lapse in station security. Please assure Captain Cobb that those responsible have been fully dealt with.”

A smile, placating and yet fleetingly brief. “I trust the anomaly is now securely contained? And that no significant casualties ensued?”

A slight raising of an eyebrow was Adam’s only reaction “Until we access the Station files on the anomaly we can’t be certain that it has been fully contained” He explained without explaining “I expect the internal investigation files will also be made available to us” Again it was not a question. His left hand silently tapped and tried to access the files again without looking away from the screen.
