Quinn muttered under her breath as she checked the settings on the table. There were four chairs.
The food was a mini potluck. A lasagna was in a covered dish. There were five stuffed steaks cooked to medium well state. A hot plate was centered near the steaks in the case someone wanted it cooked more than what she had prepared. There was a loaf of pepper cheese bread platter of butter and a smaller platter of garlic butter. Baked potatoes and baked sweet potatoes.
Dessert was red velvet cupcakes and a small batch of Queen Amon pastries layered with chocolate with melted Andorian chocolate on the side.
Her guests were asked to bring their own choice of drinks.
After Quinn had told her about dinner a few days ago, she’d gone to the lounge and asked Tock if he could get her Allira punch. She was sure Quinn and Cobb would provide plenty of alcohol to drink, so she decided on Allira punch. It was a fruity non-alcoholic beverage from Betazed. It was generally considered quite pleasant, if a bit acidic for some tastes.
Quinn bit her lip as she looked over the table again. Then she looked at her quarters to check it looked presentable. A skein of silk soft Yarm in vivid crimson was still sitting in the middle of her small cerulean blue couch, with her crochet hook left in the center of the skein.
Her bookshelf was a mixture of fantasy novels, old classic such as Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, some others from other cultures and one shelf was crochet patterns and cook books.
She brushed a lock of hair behind her left ear, her hair was in a loose french twist trailing down her back instead of her on duty pulled up and high. Her outfit was simple cerulean blue shirt, paired up with dark grey pants.

Casela knew there was much speculation concerning the four of them. Cobb, Raauhl, Synthi-er, and Kindle. Why? Because Irida liked to make sure of it. So she’d arranged to have Irida inspect and certify all the Mark VIIs tonight. There was no reason for anyone to be on deck 2, except those that lived there. And that was still a fact she was getting used to, that she lived there. With Ryder and Gen. Old habit’s die hard, and instead of stressing over what she should wear, she processed what needed to be done and she was dressed quickly after. She would never be one of those that said 5 minutes and it was really an hour. Besides this was not a state dinner requiring an evening gown. Which she did have one, but she was not wearing.
Raauhl accompanied Cobb as they walked along the corridor he had a bottle of brandy in one hand and a choice selection of crackers Nd cheeses in the other. He was wearing a navy three piece suit. “Its not for the Yeoman to put this on. Sometimes it easy to forget we are humans well some of us anyaay” he joked as they neared the door to the Yeomans door. He was on the look out for Casela who he knew had also been invited.

Cobb’s reputation for apathy of appearance was almost legendary on the ship. Every man and woman onboard were, by now, wholly accustomed to finding their captain with unkempt hair, untrimmed beard and slightly disheveled tunic. But against such low expectations, it came of as much of a surprise to Cobb himself that for an occasion such as this one, he’d cleaned up to an impressive standard.
His hair was down around his shoulders, each side held neatly in place by a slender, square-shaped braid. His beard had been combed and similarly braided. The captain’s outfit of choice was some dark blue trousers called ‘jeans’, paired with a checked shirt contrasting the cerulean blue of his eyes with the velvet blackness of the void. On his feet he wore sturdy black boots with a small, embroidered logo tagged “Harley Davidson”.In his left hand, Cobb was clutching a bottle of his favourite whiskey. In his right a bottle of white wine and a large bouquet of flowers, of every colour of the rainbow.
He nodded at Rauuhl’s statement before admitting with a shrug, “To tell you the truth, lad, I feel somewhat like a lamb to the slaughter.”
The statement was followed by a chuckle, but the anxiousness did not fully dissipate from his eyes. She stepped into the corridor quietly, a few paces after Ryder and Zachariah passed. She slipped up between them, one hand hand tucked into each of their elbows. “Good evening, Gentlemen.” She was wearing a knee length dark purple wrap dress, with a shallow v-neck and capped sleeves (no scars tonight), with soft leather calf boots and a similar belt. Her hair was still in a tight fish tail braid, but the Pièce De Résistance was her necklace. Usually hidden carefully under her uniform, today it laid openly against her skin. Tiger eye stones with Norse rune symbols, Kenaz for passion, Tiwaz for the fighter, Pertho for beauty, and finally the larger stone with Freyas symbol which was on the original.
Lt Synthi-er, CNS“Ah, our indomitable counselor,” Cobb laughed this time with genuine affection at the sight of Casela, although quickly he added, “I don’t know whether to feel reassured by your presence or disconcerted. For where you’re to be found, Cas, trouble is not usually far behind.”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
“You wound me, Captain,” Casela bit back a grin looking totally affronted. “Trouble does not follow me, I scare it away. It’s not my fault Trouble doesn’t know how to be stealthy.” And only slightly more serious, but genuine, “Don’t worry Captain you are far safer in my presence than out of it.”
Raauhl chuckled “Is that the truth, Lieutenant” He smiled and winked in her direction though their relationship was common knowledge amongst the crew… how could it not be? They still liked to keep a professional working environment especially when the Captain was around. They neared the location to which specified by the crewman. “Well I vote that we send in our bravest first, Lieutenant?” He held out his hands and added, “Ladies first.”
- Cmdr Raauhl, XO
Casela turned her gaze, warm and laughing, on him. “I don’t know, Cmdr. I think you’re the expert on that particular subject, am I always in trouble?” She squeezed his arm playfully where it was tucked into his elbow. In reality she looked perfectly at ease having him escort her down the hall. Ryder had asked the captain for permission for their relationship, and Cobb had made the supreme effort to tease her about it. Though she would never acknowledge their relationship on duty, or in front of the captain, they were all off duty at the moment. And for a very rare moment, she was totally at ease and not putting on a persona, but just being herself.
She turned facing them both, an eyebrow raised, “Chickens.” She turned back around and pressed the chime. When permission was given to enter she stepped through the door, “Quinn! It smells amazing!” She glanced back at Ryder and Zachariah. “They seem to think I’m up to something, Quinn. Something about trouble always following me. That’s not true is it?” She was aware of Quinn’s nervousness as well as everyone else and she was more than willing to poke fun at herself.
Lt Synthi-er, CNSQuinn smiled up at Cas, “Thanks, I hope I made enough.” she gave a light laugh, “Trouble you?” she shook her head softly, “Nah, trouble only shows up when everyone else is busy.” she said with a cheeky grin at her friend.
“I’m sure you did and I’m also sure it will taste amazing.” Casela turned around pointing a thumb back towards Quinn’s direction, “See! She gets it! It has nothing to do with me.”
As Casela stepped through the doorway, Cobb placed a hand on Rauuhl’s arm and pulled him to one side.
“I am not overly accustomed to socialising with members of my crew,” he murmured in a low voice. “As I suspect you are not with your captain. But tonight we are both off duty. No longer captain and commander but simply two friends, accompanying two intriguing women to what my nose tells me will be a wonderful meal.”
He lifted the bottle of whiskey and waved it at the Trill.
“So Ryder, please try to relax. And I shall endeavour to do the same.”And with that, Cobb stepped through the door and headed immediately for Quinn, the flowers held out towards her as he approached.
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Quinn stopped mid step as she took in her Captain’s appearance. From his Harley Davidson boots, to the jeans? His shirt brought out the color of his eye dramatically, it was his hair and beard that gave her the most pause. Then the flowers caught her attention, her face flushed crimson, “Thank you for the flowers,” she stammered out as she carryfully took the bouquet from Cobb.
Casela looked around. Quinn’s shirt and several other items in her quarters were that cerulean blue, the same as the captain’s eyes. Coincidence?
“Very well, buddy ol’ pal” He teased following behind him feeling a little empty-handed, eh should have brought something… Then another thought was this some kind of double date. He chuckled at the thought and would have to see how the meal goes. “Wow it does smell good!” Raauhl stepped up next to Casela no point in hiding thier feelings behind closed doors even if Cobb and Quinn were present so he placed a hand on her lower back and kissed her on her cheek. “You’re always in trouble.”
- Cmdr Raauhl, XO
“Now you know why I get up two hours before my shift for breakfast.” That and Cobb insisted, but she did enjoy those early morning meetings with the captain, and it had allowed her, in a relaxed environment, to help him…okay for them to help each other. She turned her head to look at Ryder as he walked over and was surprised at the openly sweet gesture and Casela found herself leaning into the heat of his hand. She didn’t quite know what to do with her reaction. She laughed at his words, but did he catch the slight self-consciousness in it? “You haven’t seen me in trouble yet. I haven’t been in the brig once since I came on board.” Was she nervous? But despite being surprised she was comfortable to stay there next to him. Until she realized that both men were still holding their contributions to the dinner. She took the cracker and cheese tray from Ryder, removed the lid and set it in an empty space on the table. Then the bottle Brandy from Ryder and stealthily took the bottles of whiskey and white wine from Cobb. She set the brandy and whiskey aside, and with an expert flourish uncorked the wine and set it in an ice bucket that Quinn had setting out.
Quinn grinned at Rider, then back to Cobb and Cas, “Make yourselves at home and have a seat where you like. I will get these into a vase and join you in a moment.” she said with a nod towards the set table before she turned to her left and headed for the replicator, she didn’t have a vase yet, she had no idea what type would best fit the vividly colorful bouquet, Cobb had brought but she hoped their was something interesting from the data base.

Instead of sitting down, Casela walked over to Quinn. “May I?” She was going to do it anyway, but she asked out of politeness. She searched through the computer codes until she found what she wanted. A moment later a beautiful glass vase appeared. Tear dropped in shape with the top fanning out and ending in a delicate ripple effect. The glass was twisted and streaked with pale streaks of the rainbow, softly complementing the gorgeous arrangement Cobb had given her.. A small device was attached to the bottom of the vase was a small light. When activated the light would refract through the water and around the stems, and then out of the glass through the rainbowed streaks, creating a unique light display each time. She handed the vase to Quinn, with the light off. “I know the artist.” Even without the light it would display the flowers in a delicate way, allowing them to spread apart and show off each one individually. She returned to the table and sat down next to Ryder.
