” True but I prefer to not attract attention” she said with a smile. She did not like fealing like she was a freak. People staring at her was not her idea of fun ether. Cerenity giggled ” people only stare because its cool and they wish they could fly” cerenity said.
Ensign Luna

At this, Cobb roared with laughter. “How right you are, Miss Cerenity. Being able to fly is very ‘cool’ indeed.”
But a nod to Luna let the woman know that he understood the desire to sink into the shadows. For to stand out was often to raise ones head above the parapet, into the continuous rain of fire formed by public judgement and opinion.

“Well, since I am not cool enough to join you for a flight,” he turned back to the child, a wide grin illuminating his features, “What say, instead, that you join me for a swim? There is an enclosed bay off to the left there, where the water is not too terribly deep. And I have been told it is home to many colourful fishes. All just waiting for new names,” he winked at the girl.

” its not that your not cool. You just weren’t born with wings like mommy and i” cerenity said giggling. Her little hand reached up to the the captains. ” Fish lets go” she said then looked at her mom.
” please can i mom” cerenity said excitedly.

Luna smiled relaxing. Cobb strongly reminding her of Loki. Oh she missed him. ” If you are shure she will be safe i would prefer to stay on dry land but ill keep and eye out for you two from the beach” Luna said with a smile.
Ensign Luna

“I shall guard her with the same care I would offer to any bottle in my collection,” Cobb teased Luna, before adding more seriously, “Luna please, go and grab yourself a drink and try to relax. Miss Cerenity here has some very important fish naming to do. Isn’t that right?” he looked down at the child.

” i can only promise to try” Luna said with a smile.

Turning towards the bay, the young girl’s hand still clasped in his own, Zachariah began to lead them both in a leisurely stroll towards the water’s edge.
“There are many things I miss being on a starship,” he mused both to the child and to the wider world at large. “But more than anything else, Cerenity, I miss the sea!”

” this is my first time on a planet. I like swimming alright but I think my favorite place is the sky” cerenity said with a smile.

The temperature of the water was perfect, like slipping into a warm, luxurious bath; its clarity like glass, crystal to the very bottom, so that only when it broke in feathered waves against the toes, could you be completely sure of its existence at all. With a grin, Zachariah discarded his shirt and then waded until the water reached almost to his waist, before turning back to the shore and beckoning for Cerenity to join him.

“Can you swim yourself here, lass?” he called out, “Or do you need assistance?”

Cerenity giggled opening her wings and flying low over the water skiming her fingers along the surfas. When she reached the capten she folded her wings and dropped into the water. She sank beneath the surface staring there for a moment looking about. Her blond hair floating around d her head like a halow as she looked around before coming ack to the sufras treading water.

“You look like you can handle the water as easily as you can handle the air.” Zachariah commented. “See any fishies down there?”

Taking a deep breath, Cobb submerged his own head beneath the water, his long hair and beard coming alive in the water and snaking around his head like sentient seaweed and him a twisted Poseidon. Opening his eyes, he was delighted to find the bay filled to the brim with small, tropical fishes of all colours of the rainbow. Suddenly, off to his left, one tiny angelfish broke away from its group and came zipping past them at impressive speed. Catching the girl’s attention, Cobb pointed out the fish and then, emerging from the water and gulping in some air, he announced, “Why, that fish could almost fly! I reckon we call her Cerenity.”

Cerenity giggled as they came back to the surface. ” its was such a pretty fish” cerenity said giggling. Befor something in the distance caught her attention. ” are those dolfions” she asked pointing to the small shops jumping from the water.

“It was a pretty fish,” Cobb agreed, treading water comfortably as he allowed himself a few minutes to catch his breath.
At Cerenity’s question regarding dolphins, Zachariah followed the young girl’s finger and smiled broadly when he caught one of the creatures leap out of the water.
“Why, Miss Cerenity, I believe that you are correct,” he replied. “Let’s swim a little closer. Not too close though. We don’t want to spook them.”

Cerenity smiled following the capten when she stopped spotting a lion fish. ” Zachariah ” she said pointing to the animal. ” the dolphins remained me of daddy. He was always fun like that I miss daddy” she said her voice becameing sad for a moment. That disappeared as a large shadow passed over them. ” Capten look its mommy. ” she said excitedly.

Zachariah floated onto his back so that he could watch Luna swooping overhead. From here she looked like any other bird, albeit larger in size than the average Earth species. He was impressed at the control the woman had over her flight.

Luna was flying in lazy circles high above the bay. She used the wind currents so she did not have to flap her wings as frequent. Cerenity waved then her attention was back in the dolphins. ” let’s go before they leave” she said excitedly.

“Aye,” Cobb agreed, turning back onto his front and paddling lazily after the young girl.
“Cerenity,” he called out softly, “I know you miss your daddy. And I also know that…his current whereabouts are unknown. I promise you that, when we return to the Leviathan, I will use the resources available to me to look for him.”

Cerenity smiled. ” Realy Mommy misses him to. She won’t say it. I wish daddy were here you would love him. Zachariah where is your family. ” She said with a smile. As the headed to the dolphins. ” do you like star fleet. Mommy doesn’t want me to join star fleet i don’t understand why. She won’t tell me” she added as they go in close.

The question had been borne of innocence. A child so loved and protected by their mother that they wanted the same for all others. But as her words, delivered so sweetly in that almost musical voice, struck him, he felt the ocean shift beneath him, the void opening wide and waiting to swallow him whole.
“Zachariah, where is your family?”

He attempted to hide the pain of remembrance with a laugh. “Oh lass, when you’ve been alive for as long as I have, you begin to feel like everyone has gone to Valhalla without you. Modern medicine is a marvel indeed, but loneliness that one cruel disease that refuses subservience to all treatment.”

” but you don’t have to be lonely” cerenity said.

With a breath, he sank below the waves, in part an attempt to drown the threat of tears with a deluge of warm saltwater. But equally driven by a morbid curiosity to see with his own eyes the chasm that might, even now, be reaching out for him. As it was, all that greeted Zachariah Cobb in this cerulean kingdom was fish.

Emerging once again, Cobb picked at a strand of seaweed that had become entwined in his own, silver hair then, with a shrug, continued, “My father died in service when I was seventeen years old. My mother three years earlier than he. It was the reason I decided to join Starfleet,” he snorted out the bitter, painful truth, “because at that moment I realised I had nowhere else in this entire universe to go.”

” i think mommy and you are alike in that regard” she said again a bit confused by the adults.

“I can understand your mother’s reservations,” Zachariah quickly steered the conversation away from his own miserable history. “Being a Starfleet Officer is a demanding, and dangerous, profession. But it is also the singularly most rewarding thing that I have ever done, Miss Cerenity. And when you reach the age to sign up for the Academy, if that remains still, at that time, your wish, then if I am not already with the gods I would give you every ounce of support and encouragement that I possess.”

Finally reaching the dolphins, the animals seemed completely unconcerned by the arrival of these two, curious humans, and continued to dip and leap in energetic circles all around them. With a measure of hesitation, Cobb eventually dared to reach out a hand and run it alongside the body of a passing dolphin and was rewarded with a drenching from the creature’s tail for his effort.

“What would you like to do in Starfleet, Cerenity?” he asked around a mouthful of water.

Cerenity giggled as she reached out to pet a dolphin as well. “There so smothe and soft.” She said as she thought about the question. ” I want to protect everyone like mommy but I like engineering and science do I don’t know what I want to do” she said.
