Luna was not thrilled about leaving cerenity with a hologram but hopefully the child would behave. She needed to pay the captain of the ship a visit. One of those fun things about checking into a new ship. She was not willing to have cerenity to run around the captions office making a mess.

She eventually reached his office. She took a few deep breath before knocking on the door. Yes she knocked on the door the chimes on the Viking were a horrible scratchy high pitched sound. So it was more out of habit then anything else .
Ensign Luna

Zachariah was sitting at his desk, pouring over some scientific reports. Or rather, attempting to pour over the reports from behind intermittently closing eyelids. What he wouldn’t give for a nap right about now.
The sound jarred him into full wakefulness. It had sounded like…a knock? Either Mr Bog was hammering a hole into the bulkhead outside of his door or…someone was using an incredibly antiquated method to request access to his office.

Knock knock.
Almost as if tradition required it, the captain replied with “Who’s there?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Luna blinked at the reply. ” umm Ensign Luna sir” she called back. Did she do something wrong or mix up times it had been a long day as it was.
Ensign Luna

Nobody ever appreciated humour from a captain. Cobb should have learned that lesson already. So, after a loud clearing of his throat, he pulled himself into a more dignified position in his chair, then called out “Well come in then, Ensign Luna.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Luna entered the office. ” Hello captain, I’m Ensign Luna reporting for duty” she said. Unsure if that was thr right thing to say. She scared the room liking for possible danger. ” how are you today sir.” She said returning her attention to the Captain.
Ensign Luna

Zachariah stared at the woman over his half-empty coffee mug. Another new arrival. It appeared as if the ARU were in the midst of a frenzied recruitment drive, with the Leviathan being their primary target. Impossible not to wonder, and worry, on the reason for such rapid growth within their crew. Impossible not to wonder, also, how many of these new faces would remain long enough to become familiar…

“Ah, come in, Ensign,” Cobb replied eventually, motioning to an empty chair as he got to his feet and began to head for the replicator. “Can I get you any…”
A pause. No shame forthcoming for his open-mouthed expression. Or the wide eyed comment that followed.
“Ensign. Are…are those…wings?”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

” im fine sir” she growned at the question about her wings. The were a curse but at least cerenity was in ther quarter behaving and not here showing off.

” yes sir they are” she opend her wings to there fill 10 fut wingspan. ” and yes I can fly. Do you have I a problem with that sir” Luna said closing her wings again. They folded neaty agents her back. ” so I found out from the consuler that there are not other children onboard. You have any clue how we ended up with orders here? You would not happen to know what section 31 is and why you have members of them all over your ship” She asked. Watching his reaction closely. She did not sit down and her wings opened slightly as if expecting a fight.
Ensign Luna

Cobb immediately raised his hands in a gesture of placation, his eyes taking in the woman’s wingspan and the proximity of her right wingtip to a bottle of bourbon.
“Now slow down there, Miss,” he attempted to counter. “That’s a lot of questions to be firing at me when I’m without a drink in my hands.”
He took several moments to procure and then fill a tumbler for himself, placing a second, empty tumbler and bottle on the desk for Luna to take for herself. Or not.
Luna giggled at his response it was actually funny.

Only once the captain was back into his seat, and had been fuelled by several sips of the liquor, did he continue.
“Okay, let’s take things one at a time. One,” he counted off on his fingers, “I am the captain of an ARU vessel, employed in the business of anomaly capture and with a containment deck stuffed to the gills with creatures torn from the mind of Lovecraft himself. So no, I do not have a problem with your wings. As long as your ability to fly in no way hinders your performing of your duty and also, that you do not go tearing along the corridors of this ship like the proverbial hawk out of hell.”

” i think my ability to fly would be a help rather then a hindrance. the only time it could be ks close quarters combat but iv had more then enough training to fine a style of fighting that works for me.” She said confidently. There were not very many who had picked a fight with Luna and actually won. She was usually much faster then her appoints and she used it to her advantage expertly.

“Glad to hear it,” Cobb replied. ” I am confident that such skills will come in very handy. At the right moment.”

“Two,” he continued, his tone and expression softening as the whiskey settled like warm coals in his stomach, “the Counselor is correct. I’m afraid the Leviathan is not designated as a family vessel and we possess no resources or other means for providing education or childcare. It is my own, initial, reaction that this ship is simply too dangerous a location for a child such as your daughter,” he warned her, before quickly adding, “but then again, I have been told that she is not a regular child.”

” where did you get that information?” Luna glared at him now. ” i have gose to great trouble to keep Cerenity’s abilities off offichil star fleet records, I want risk suffering the way I did. She is a child i want her to actually get to be a child” Luna said. She was calm but there was a hard edge to her voice.

Luna’s glare was returned with an equally fierce one from the captain. “If you want your daughter to be a child, then I suggest you send her as far away from this anomaly-packed vessel as possible. Perhaps you did not hear me the last time, Miss Luna, but we are not designated as a family vessel. We are engaged in highly dangerous, highly secret missions.”

Cobb let out a heavy sigh, some of the ferocity in his tone fading with it.
“I will make whatever concessions that I can to accommodate your daughter,” he offered, “but I can not lie to you about the risks she will face here. If you choose to have her remain and face them, and I am in no way attempting to persuade you in either direction, then you, as her mother, will be equally compelled to acknowledge that risk.”

“Three,” his glass was drained and refilled with impressive efficiency and not a single drop wasted in the action of it, “the circumstances of your assignment to my crew have not been shared with me. As is so often the case on this vessel, it seems. But if I had to hazard a guess then I would wager that your presence on the Viking factored somewhere in the decision. But irrespective of that, you are on my crew now, Ensign Luna. So unless your intention is to put in a transfer or otherwise jump ship, I would suggest that the reasons do not matter so much at this point. Would you agree?”

” not exactly but I will drop the matter for now” Luna said there was sumthing in her tone that said she did not believe him.

“And four,” he concluded at last, “the ARU is not a branch of Section 31, but as the two most highly classified divisions of Starfleet, they operate within the same sphere. And so, individual motivations aside, I find these continual connections to be more unsurprising with every one that I discover. Although not any less irritating for that fact.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

” section 31 is evil and should be disbanded” she said crossing her arms. She watched the captain for a moment. Before she reluctantly sat down. ” why exactly are we capturing these anomalie, I heared several members of the Viking that i thought to be dead were onbord are all transfers done suddenly and secretly” Luna asked
Ensign Luna

Zachariah raised an eyebrow at her mention of the Viking’s former crew.
“Aye. As you already know then, you are not the first of the Viking’s crew to be reassigned to my command. Nakuto, McHarrie, GLaDOS, Akirel, Gruv, all of them are, or or were at one time, a member of this crew. Why? I will be completely honest with you, Miss, I don’t have the faintest bloody idea!”

He ran a hand through his hair, a few errant strands escaping from their confines to fall around his face, momentarily softening his usually serious expression.
“As for why we capture anomalies, I…were you not briefed on this, Ensign? Are you aware of the nature of these things we hold in containment on this vessel? If you are then surely you must agree that such monstrosities can not be allowed to roam the quadrant unhindered? We do what we do here, Miss Luna, because we must. Because with every single one of those things that we capture, we save an unimaginable number of innocent lives.”
