“All children can be a challenge, and are smart and stubborn, and wonderful in their own ways. So the good thing about Leviathan is that every access hatch and door require biometric and clearance codes to get in. We can put her biometrics in specifically to have the security programs block her from getting into anywhere, even from sneaking in with someone. That they will automatically track her. There is one other child on board. Her name is Gen and she’s 16. She spends her time down here and then we explore together. She’s older of course, but they might like to spend time together. And we can always make crew functions child friendly so that Cerenity can attend as well. We’ll work together. Maybe put a forcefield around the holo emmiters in your quarters so she can’t take apart the babysitter? I take it that is something she would do.”

Cerenity abruptly looked up. ” mommy im ok you don’t have to worry” cerenity said tackling Luna with a hug. The ensign was supposed and fell from her chair to the floor. She could not help but laugh. ” im alright cerenity go back to coloring” Luna said.

Luna grind as she got to her feet. ” yes thats exactly thats exactly the kind of thing thatt cerenity would do. Perhaps it would be a good idea for cerenity and gen to spend some time together that is if Gen’s parents are ok with it. “I’m sorry, I just… it’s hard sometimes I never know if I’m making the right choice for her” Luna said shaking her head. Cerenity settled back to drawing. She had moved on to drawing her family. ” im surprised she is still entertained she usually loses interest in N activity in about five minutes.

Casela considered the problem. Gen might actually be a good person to help Cerentiy. Gen could walk through walls and floors and ceilings. She also had a very healthy respect and a lot of fear about the anomalies after what had happened to her. “Gen is sort of all of ours. Her parents and the ship they served on were lost. She’s here with us now. I will ask her what she thinks about it.” Luna’s comment brought to the forefront Casela’s plan. She wanted to adopt Gen, but she hadn’t talked to Gen about it since she’d returned from Delotha. She had to approve it through Cobb, but, first and foremost she needed to talk to Ryder. Well that wasn’t the issue right now. “If she likes to tinker maybe we could set up an engineering lab down here for her. We can give her things that are safe for her to interact with. We could do the same for science as well. And she’s always welcome to come use the art supplies. She seems to like it. The blank paper lets her fill it up with whatever is on her mind and explore.”

Luna nodded ” yes she does seam to enjoy that . I think arranging some time for her to spen down here may be a good idea and probably
in her best interest. How many on you staff are part of the darker side of star fleet? ” She said looking at cerenity. The child had finished drawing her family but behind her dad there was a scribbled black shape. ” I may need some help with her in regards to the Viking iv tried but she is insistint that the shadows are real and that the took her dad. They are also insistint that he is going to come back. He is not coming back he can’t come back this time.” Luna said.

“On my staff, none. They were smarter than me in that regard. They all have high clearance though. They needed that to be able to work on Leviathan. Most anything they can talk to you about without worrying about classified levels. However there are limits. Anything they can’t, I can.” Casela took a sip of coffee. “I would be happy to help Cerenity.” She tapped on the PaDD, ‘As for the shadows, they are very real, I have no doubt. Children are able to see things we don’t, as we grow older it is trained into our brains to dismiss it. Here on Leviathan, monsters are very real and we see it daily. So let us help Cerenity figure out exactly what it was and if we can’t do something about them. I’ve talked to Kara about it a lot. I have no first hand experience with the things on Viking, but I have no doubt she saw something even if she isn’t sure exactly what it was.’

Casela looked over at the Cerenity. “Hey Cerenity can you come over here for just a minute?” When the girl came over she smiled a fun glint entering her eyes. “You know you are super duper smart right? So I’d like to talk to you for a minute like a big girl. Is that okay?”

Luna watched quietly. She very much wanted to get to the bottom of the nonsense with the shadows. The entire thing had her stumped.

Cerenity walked over. ” Really a like a big girl. Most adults treat me like a baby and ignore me” she said. Casela would pick up on a mix of emotions of Cerenity the monst pronounced being intrest, but ther was a hint of lonelyniss under the surface. “What do you want to talk about” she asked.

Casela nodded, very seriously. “Yes like a really big girl. And part of being a big girl is to tell me if you don’t understand something I say, okay?” She waited till Cerenity agreed.

“Well Cerenity I know that you know ALL about the Viking where you were born. And I also know that you love to know everything you can, right?” Again Casela paused.

“Well Leviathan, is not like Viking. It is a LOT scarier and strange. There are areas here that you absolutely must NOT go to. You, and your mommy, will get in A LOT of trouble if you do. We have areas called containment decks where there are monsters and other scary things. And then the science labs that try to understand those things. You can’t go there. It’s not because you aren’t smart, but you are still young,” she avoided the word little or baby, “and you haven’t learned everything you need to know to go there. It’s important that we have enough knowledge to do the things we want to know. I can not promise you that you will ever be allowed in those areas. Only certain people are. I’m not even allowed in some of them.” She made a big deal of how big a deal it was that even she couldn’t get in. “Now, if you can promise me you won’t go anywhere you aren’t allowed and will always ask mommy’s permission we’ll set up a lab for you here, on this deck, where you can study things that you and mommy decide on. Would you like that?”

“But if you can’t keep your promise I won’t be able to do that for you.”
