Posted by… suppressed (1) by the Post Ghost! 👻Sometime after his meeting with Cobb and the good Doctor Theo made his way to the counselling center. He held in his hand a small pot with a brilliant blue coloured plant inside. It seemed like a medium sized cactus, but lacking spikes.
As he walked part of his mind played Chopin, part of his mind sat inside the impenetrable box training and practice had helped establish and went over what he knew of the woman he was about to meet. Betazoid, 5’6’, 135 lbs…34 years old, martial artists, Lieutenant. Top of her class at the academy, counselling degree, combat psychology, interrogation techniques, diplomat. Best watch our step here… he gently disentangled himself from the box, left the stuff he had not been given permission to share in there and enjoyed the music, so much so that he was humming it quietly as he entered the center and looked around for someone to help him.
Dr Knox
En Watkins was coming out of her office and spotted the new doctor. She of course had heard the rumors about Doc Fey and was not surprised to see a new CMO. Rumors on Levi might be rumors but they were also usually true, unless Irida started them. Then you had to check to see how long her nose was first.
“Ah you must be Dr. Knox. Let me get the Lt for you.” Watkins made her way over Synthi-er’s door and hit the chime. When the door opened she called in. “Lt., Dr Knox is here for his eval.” Then Watkins left to go about her business.Theo smiled at Watkins. ”Thank you Ensign, apologies for the unannounced interuption.” he said as he waited.
Watkins laughed, “Nothing on this deck is unexpected.”
Casela stepped out of her office and took in the new doctor and his plant. She raised a single brow, looking very Vulcan like. “Dr. Knox. Come on in. It’s good to finally meet you.” She held out her hand to shake his and then waved him towards a chair. There were no pictures in her office. Her educational credentials were up on the wall. She may lack rank, but not the training, and not the experience. There was a small shelf next to her desk, that was away from prying fingers. Several small items went onto that shelf that had significant meaning to her, but the wise would never ask her about them. Next were her weapons. So. Many. Weapons. But unless you knew what you were looking for, you’d never see them and never notice them, but Casela was Never comfortable unless she had a weapon within hands reach. Her desk was situated in the middle of the room with two chairs opposite her. She took her seat behind the desk.
Lt Synthi-er, CNSHe took the hand and shook it then followed, glancing around the office with passing interest. He approached and gently put the plant down on the desk before settling himself in the chair opposite her. ”Thank you for taking the time to see me today Lieutenant. I do hope I haven’t interrupted your schedule too much.” he Said and lifted his chin at the plant. ”I always find that when one comes to a new ship it is polite to bring a gift to those initial meetings, I hope you don’t mind. This is an Aesadai Plant, a counsellor friend of mine introduced me to it some years back. It releases a scent soothing to those in it’s proximity. Of course, each scent is different each time depending on who experiences it but it is rather soothing and somewhat useful I have found to have in my office for those patients who get nervous when visiting the Doctor.” he smiled slightly.
Dr. Knox
Casela liked his hand shake. It was an old axiom but true that a lot could be surmised by a person’s hand shake. “Not at all dr. We are here for when we are needed. There are always open appointments.” Casela looked at the plant, curious as to what scent it would exude for her, but was not easily distracted. “Thank you Dr. If it works well I will have to see if someone in the science department can grow me one for each room on the deck.” She also wondered if it was a dig at the fact she hadn’t been to sickbay since Fey operated on her.
“What do you think, Doctor, of our little ship of horrors?”
Theo smiled. “I am finding the modifications to the ship extremely interesting. The mission profile itself also. And from what I can see so far the crew seem all very competent. I’m sure there’s much more exciting times to come and I look forward to see what this may mean for me.”
Dr Knox
Casela raised that brow again. “Our previous doctor was a bit of a mad scientist type. Absolutely brilliant, mind you, but she did tend to make the crew nervous. You’ll have to contend with that. And her last little encounter with the Bloody Mary anomaly hasn’t helped that. I would suggest you get to know Cmdr McHarrie. He is medical and under certain normal circumstances works under you. But he is also in charge of Sickbay Beta, which is for Anomalies only. That is his domain, along with his lab. When it comes to Anomalies he is in charge. All that to say you are both expert doctors and I hope will be able to work together when necessary.” Casela leaned back, propped her feet on the corner of her desk. “So tell me Dr how did you come to end up on Leviathan? And don’t worry about clearance, I can show you my credentials if you require them.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSTheo nodded. ”I will of course do my best to ensure that the crew are as at ease as possible. As for Commander McHarrie, i look forward to working with him as much as possible over the course of this posting.”
Considering her Theo smiled again. ”Forgive me but it is an indulgence to be able to speak freely with someone. Showing me your credentials will not be necessary.” he thought a moment ”After the war ended I remained with a branch of star fleet research and development. I say My experiments came to a natural conclusion, that isn’t strictly true. I found myself growing restless and when I discussed this with my commanding officer it was she who suggested that a return to ship duty would be a good avenue to pursue. I was lucky enough that my position and happenstance afforded me the opportunity to join you here. As to why here of all ships when the danger Is almost certain well…i believe it was Thomas Harris, an old earth author who said ’In the vaults of our hearts and brains, danger waits.’ Perhaps I can best explain it in that I wanted the challenge and chance to help ensure the continued safety of the crew here.”
Dr Knox
Casela nodded. “You’ll have no shortage of work for you here, doctor. Injuries from anomalies are quite frequent. Injuries and illness from over indulging in stress relief is common as well. And let’s not forget combat training. Drink, heavy drink, real drink, not synthehol is another past time that is common. But there are good people here. I hope that you and I will be able to work together seemlessly as well. My staff are all trained as either medics or nurses for when you need them. None are cleared to work in Beta sickbay with the anomalies, but they are good people. And we have several patient rooms here on our deck.” She stares off for a moment. “It is not an easy position you find yourself in. Our orders from command often require that we put the safety of the anomalies over our own crew. And that doesn’t sit right with anyone and that means greater risk, injury, and loss to our crew.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS
Theo nodded. “I understand, it is a lot to take in for many.” He said nodding, his expression stoic. He considered her as he sat. “I am no stranger to difficult decisions.”
