Casela had moved her schedule for this. She’d put Niven in charge of this week’s trainings. Field medicine and first response. Niven was a medic, but more skilled than most and was able to recertify the team in first aid. So the team would be doing that, while Casela had something else planned. Quinn Kindle. She was spunky, hard working, and she had secrets. What exactly those were, Casela hadn’t pried into too much. They were personal and Quinn carried none of the weight of a secret that could hurt the crew. So Casela hadn’t pursued. But it being her nature, she was curious. But Quinn was small and despite her dedication to doing her best, she needed some extra tricks to her bag to make her an effective fighter. But Casela, after watching the Yeoman handle and deal with Cobb on a daily basis, knew her mind was quick enough to make her one of the more formidable members of the Black Devils.
Casela sent a message to Quinn requesting her to show at the training holodeck a little earlier than normal. Casela set the program, and entered. She looked around, the scene making her homesick. What looked like a barn stood at the back of a property. What would be mistaken for a horse corral was actually an outdoor sparing ring. Casela ignored the scenery and entered the barn. It had a dirt floor but was clean and rustic. Weapons, sparing and training equipment scattered the area. Casela walked around the area, lost in thought and memory for a few minutes. And then she turned and began to stretch, waiting for Quinn Kindle to arrive.
Lt. Synthi-er, RTFQuinn walked down the corridor her duffle with some of her weapons (scaled for her height and grip), within it. She wasn’t sure what Casela had in mind, but she figured bringing a selection of her own equipment wouldn’t be out of line. Her hair was in a tight braid and tucked into a bun on the back of her neck. She carried a small basket in her other hand, inside there were some muffins, two thermos, one of coffee and one hot chocolate.
When she walked through the archway the sight of the barn had her freeze for a few seconds, as it took her to look past the general shape and reminder of debacle of the family reunion at the camp grounds they had rented. It was a barn yes but it wasn’t the same style as the one she had played in all those years ago. Quinn very much doubted there would be any spiders in this place. She muttered under her breath and moved forward, her steps as silent as she could make them.
Quinn walked into the barn and was more relieved that there wasn’t any hay in evidence. Even the holographic stuff made her sneeze but not as badly. She offered up a cheeky grin as Casela looked at her. “Morning! I brought snacks for after we are done.” She said as she held up the basket she set down her duffle carefully and looked around the interior was like a dojo, that was definitely more comforting.

Casela grinned, “Food is always good after a workout. But unlike the captain, I shall not be bribed into being easy on you. Unless there is LOTS of chocolate.” Casela joked. She loved chocolate, what Betazoid didn’t? But the rest of the RTF team would know that nothing stopped her during training. She saw Quinn look around and saw a brief look of relief go across her face. “I hope you don’t mind the setting. This is where I trained, where I learned what I know.” Casela took note of the duffel, and from years of long practice she took note of the different lumpy shapes and knew weapons were in the bag. Casela nodded with approval. “You have your own weapons. Good, I like that. Let’s get them out and see what you have. The purpose today, is to see what you know, and,” Casela never one to mince words, “turn your small size into a huge advantage.”
Lt. Synthi-er, RTFQuinn grinned cheekily at Casela, “Not trying to bribe you into going easy on me.” She set the basket down were it wasn’t going to be in the way of accidentally knocked over.
Casela grinned, “Good. Let’s get started.”
Quinn knelt slowly and opened the duffle offering it to Casela, inside were her pair of ushaan-tor, a dosalnar, a japanese katana and matching wakizashi, in sheaths of obsidian and blue tiger’s eye, a baton that when extended would reach an additional 15”. The rest of her weapons were secured in her quarters. Which included a bow staff, a cross bow with arrows, she had a baseball bat under her bed along with a few harmless stink/smoke pellets.

Ooc let me know if you want me to edit anything :-)
Casela nodded. “I like these. You prefer swords?” It wasn’t really a question. She spent some time examining Quinn’s weapons. “We’ll work with these in a moment. Let’s see how you do with the Mark VII. It’s just like the tonfas we’ve been training with. Except it can be used like a taser and if set right can be used as a flash grenade as well.”
Casela stepped back “Computer, one Klingon warrior, star fleet tactile gear, no weapons, hand-to-hand. 7 foot tall.” The image appeared. “Close to Lihew or Uh’ja. And if you can take them out, you’ll be good. Let’s see what you can do.” She motioned to the holographic fighter. “When ever you are ready.”
Lt Synthi-er, RTFQuinn looked at the Mark VII a moment and seemed to test the weight of it in her hands, she passed it back and forth between her hands, she held it firmly in her left hand, as she eyed the holographic Klingon warrior. Her mere 4‘11” stature, wouldn’t normally be noticed or even taken far as a threat. She grew up fighting with her brothers and cousins, as well as training with others. The training with the fleet was different but she used it sparingly. She was used to using the perceptions of others had of her against them. Training with Casela though forced her to rethink her own tactics.
Quinn grinned cheekily as she started swinging the Mark VII around in her hand as she started circling around the Klingon warrior.
The Klingon turned with her as she circled, making slight feints randomly, a lunge, a kick that wouldn’t reach, a pace in front of her and then one as if to get behind her, all make to test her reactions. Casela stood back and watched. Quinn was good at using her size to confuse her apponint and she had an idea of how to use it to her advantage, but ....
**At least if I loose this match Captain won’t see it. Though there’s no way I can actually tell him there’s more feeling behind my offerings of pastries and light jokes.** Quinn highly doubted that Cobb would welcome such an admission.

Casela’s eyes widened slightly. Quinn LIKED Cobb. She kept her grin off her face and looked back at the Klingon and Quinn. She’d grill Quinn about that later. “Computer Freeze program.” The Klingon froze and Casela walked over. “Okay so you know you’re short. And most male will fight with their upper body. It’s how they’re built, and you go with your strengths. So they’ll have to bend down to reach you. That makes them already off balance. You have a great idea of how to use your size to surprise them, but you’ve got to use your head. Look at how he’s standing, already leaning over to reach you. But his center of gravity has stayed the same, so now he’s off balance. If he dropped his stance, to lower that center, you’d be in trouble.” Casela walks around the still image. “He’s tall enough, and your fast enough, you could literally roll right underneath him and come up behind him if you needed to. Walk around, take a good look, where is he most vulnerable right now? And don’t look at the obvious. You need to rely more on your brain and ability to analyze than on instinct. Those are great, now we need to hone them.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS/RTFQuinn pondered the stance of the Klingon warrior, and looked up at Casela, “His arms are out enough I could hit him in the armpits with the Mark VII, or I could hit the back of his knees and really throw off his balance, ” she saw a few other things too but she didn’t like playing dirty unless there was no other cause for it. Training session didn’t say to her to play mean but if Casela told her to try more forceful methods she would at least with the holographic partner she wouldn’t be sending anyone to Sickbay by accident.

Casela nodded, “Good, but what do you do after you’ve dislocated his shoulder, or knocked him down to your size? And, girl, play dirty! They won’t expect it. Now in sparing,” Casela nodded her head side to side briefly, “that could be problematic with the wrong person, but here in the holodeck, use every trick at your disposal. Fighting like this can be life or death and they won’t play nice so you don’t either.”
Lt. Synthi-er, RTF
Quinn grinned cheekily at Casela, before she nodded, turning her attention to the Klingon warrior. “Well if I dislocate his shoulder that leaves his face open for an up close introduction of the flash grenade and possible K.O. after meeting the business end of the Mark VII,” she added after a moment, “Knocking him down to my size opens up various attacks depending on how he recovers.” she said lightly but giving exactly each counter when the warrior wasn’t moving wasn’t her normal way. If Casela wanted more she would prefer showing than telling.
