“It wasn’t considered necessary.” Surda shrugged. “Beggars can’t be choosers, no?” She walked into the scanner. “By base genetic structure do you mean species or individual?”

The scanner began it’s work from top to bottom, making a soft warbling noise as it moved. “Individual, everyone has their own genetic quirks that are non-standard and in order for quantum pairing to work correctly, we need to be able to replicate the exact duplicate. If we can’t, the formulae are likely to create cancerous anomalies inside the body that would be devastating to your system. We don’t want that at all.”

OOC: Chlorophyll in her skin, four separate poisons in her bloodstream, and very low levels of toxic metals you would find on a less advanced ship. Extra gland similar to the adrenal gland in the ribcage next to the heart. Pretty sure that’s it.

Surda nodded. “Cancer bad, exact genetic copies good?” She laughed lightly. She was curious to know what the scanner would discover.

Doctor Fey watched the display on the scanner and blinked trying to make sense of what she was reading. “Well now, we can’t have that. I’m going to need to take a blood sample and understand what these poisons are in your system so we can keep an antidote on hand. Also I’m going to erect a quarantine field around you until we have that antidote. No offence, it’s just standard protocol when someone has unknown toxins in their system.” The doctor activated the shield after taking the blood sample to run tests on. “If you can share any information regarding these toxins, it will hasten the process. I’m also noting that the existence of said toxins are not in your records so I’ll need to know who your previous doctor was.”

Surda blinked for a second. “Toxins? Oh. I didn’t realise those would show up. It’s on purpose. I do it myself.” She elaborated quickly. “They’re Orion lodubyalan spices. Toxic, unless you’ve built up an immunity, or you’re Orion. You really don’t want to get rid of them. Trust me.”

The Doctor nods and gestures toward one of the other medical technicians to start producing an antidote. “I’m not trying to cure it from you, I’m just making sure we have an antidote on hand in the event of an accidental exposure. Last thing we need is for some anomaly to try to do a blood transfusion between you and someone else and then have to not only get the right blood into that person, but cure them of the toxins. Nothing serious or anything that anyone is in trouble for, just a precaution. Also this is information that needs to be in your records so the next ship you end up on can prepare for it just in case. Better to have an antidote and not need it than to need it and not have it.”

• Cautious Doctor Fey

Surda nodded. “I have the plants in my quarters. Fresh, they’re innocent and have a flavor much like that of Earth’s Indian food. Dried, they’re either dangerous or, if you’re an Orion woman, they make you much less… distracting.” She sighed. “I spent the last 20 years designing that, and a medical scanner picked it up on the first try.” She paused, thinking about what Fey might need to know. “It’s out of the bloodstream in about 14 hours, and it’s only fatal after 7.” She looked at the quarentine field around her. “For the record, I’ve bled on people before and they were fine.”
