Cobb accepted the pastry with genuine, and heartfelt, gratitude. There were few things in this universe capable of rousing his apathetic soul, but fortunately, food was very much one of them.
Casela gratefully took her plate and delicately savored the first bite of the pastry. The taste, was better than the aroma. She savored every bite slowly in true Betazoid fashion and tradition. Confections were one of life’s greatest pleasures and should be treated as such.
For a few moments he observed nothing but silence, punctuated here and there by the smack of a sugary lip or the gooey dissolvement of warm caramel against the tongue. Then, his plate cleared with impressive speed, Zachariah patted at his belly and exclaimed, “Why, Miss Kindle, I could face down a hundred anomalies in a single morning if one of your pastries was waiting for me at the end!”

While Zachariah was busy complementing Kindle on the magnificence of her baking, Casela was still savoring hers, with over half of it still left. She shook her head at him. “Oh, Cpt. you wound the confection, to have devoured so quickly. You must have another and savor it properly this time.” She slowly finishes hers and smiles at Quinn, “Excellent! Now, if this is what you bring us every morning I shall get up the 2 hours early without complaint for. Truly an excellent creation Kindle.” Casela looked around again. “Do you think you could put one to the side? I was supposed to meet Gen here, but she’s late, or hiding.” Casela grinned. Gen was always around somewhere, just where and ‘how’ were the question.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS”Im not hiding” a voice said from the seat to Casela’s left. Sure enough the resident teenage anomaly sat swinging her sock covered feet and leaning her chin in her hands, elbows on the counter. She smiled warmly. ”Can I try?”
Gen
Quinn gave a delighted laugh, “Captain I can make these anytime you don’t need to face an anomalies gauntlet for sweets.” She placed another one on Cobb’s plate, and then looked at Casela, “There’s a chocolate version I was going to surprise you for at our next training session you know as a thank you for your help and suggestions.”
At Gen’s appearance she jumped slightly, eyed the girl a moment before she placed a plate with three pastries in front of the girl. Humanoid teens could eat like miniature armies when they wanted. She didn’t know for sure about Gen but she would err on the side of good guessing.

The captain grinned widely, although whether the cause was his second pastry or the appearance of the anomalous teenager, it was hard to tell. Either way, he attempted to take smaller, more deliberate bites, placing the pastry back onto the plate and attempting at least a line of conversation between each mouthful. It took every ounce of strength the man possessed!
“These are good eh, Gen?”
Bite. Chew slowly. Swallow.
“I have no idea how we measure up to your former home, Gen, but I hope that, if nothing else, the confectionery is good?”
Another bite. Tiny ovespill of caramel down the chin and into the beard.
“Have you sampled the cookies from Dr. Fey’s sister? Why Kindle, perhaps you and her could share recipes? You already share an immeasurable talent for baking. Although…”
Furtive glance towards Casela as a hand subconsciously drops to pat at his stomach.
”…if I overindulge too often then I might find the Doctor or the good Counselor here ordering me to run laps around the ship!”
