=^=This is the Breen Warship Dresna. You have destroyed a Breen scout ship. You will surrender.=^=
Casela looked at Bog, “No.”
=^=Shuttle Valkyrja to Leviathan....we have a problem.=^= The sound of the ship being rocked by phaser fire can be heard and a lot of cussing coming from the counselor. “You just HAD to make the hologram into a Breen ship, didn’t you, Tellek.” =^=Leviathan, prepare for visitors.=^= and the com was shut off. Casela turned the shuttle and engaged the warp drive…
Lt. Synthi-er

The HUI had seen the threat and was launching sensor decoys, angling the overclocked shields wile figuring firing angles to use some of the ice moonlets to provide additional screening. “I am rather busy, Miss Casela. Might I suggest that discretion is the better part of valor.” The little ship shutters as the photon torpedoes began to fire but they wink out of sight as they clear the launchers, to appear just below the visual horizon to streak up and engage the Breen ship.

Back on the Leviathan, the captain had been about to hand bridge control to Lt McReady, then retreat to his ready room and stare at the latest reports. It could not be denied that Mr Bog had installed some immensely impressive upgrades to the shuttle Valkyrja. As for the test flight that he and Lt Synthi-er were currently undertaking, that was nothing more than a routine operation. But still, Zachariah could not ignore the churning in the pit of his stomach and the vague yet urgent sense of impending doom.

The call from the shuttle itself came at exactly the right…or perhaps it was the wrong…moment.

=^=Shuttle Valkyrja to Leviathan....we have a problem.=^=

Cobb scrambled back to his seat and immediately attempted a reply, although a few seconds of the audible chaos on the Valkyrja broke through before he could speak.
=Ah, Shuttle Valkyrja, this is the Leviathan. What is your situation?=^=

Silence. Punctuated by the staccato cries of phaser fire.
=Shuttle Valkyrja, do you…=^= Zachariah attempted to demand, before being cut off…

=^=Leviathan, prepare for visitors.=^=

At Cobb’s side, McReady pulled up the data they’d managed to gather on the Valkyrja’s surroundings and the unknown vessel making its approach.
“Ah, Captain Cobb? You might want to see this, Sir?”

No. This was not possible. There had to be some kind of mistake.

=^=Valkyrja, just what the hell is going on here?=^= Cobb roared over the comms.

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

=^=I am sorry Mister Cobb, but both Miss Casela and Mister Bog are busy. We seam to have ran afoul of a Breen warship.=^= came the very proper English accent.

Huey

=^=That is impossible, Mr…whoever the hell this is I am speaking to!=^= the captain’s words driven by an anger borne of disbelief, forged by a terror borne of truth. =^=The Breen have not been seen in these quadrants since ‘75. Believe me, I would know!=^=

“Great Alfred, stress the capn’ out more.” She maneuvered the shuttle in an elegant turn and dive. “Hold on Tellek,” As the shuttle suddenly shot past, right between the two phaser banks of the Breen ship, and accelerating suddenly, so they shot each other. =^=Leviathan, I’d like to know how all our long range sensors didn’t pick these brutes up earlier. This area was supposed to be clear.=^= The shuttle rocked again as Casela banked a hard left and a torpedo exploded off their starboard bow. “Okay time to go home. Mr. Bog, speed, we need speed.” She turned the shuttle again, trying to get free and hit the warp drive. =^=It’s too small to be a Breen war ship. It’s got to be a scout. But he’s a lot bigger than us.=^=
Lt. Synthi-er,

Bog cut most of the power to the phasers and sent it of it to the shields and warp drives. Engaging both the primary and secondary warp drives. They would need overhaul if they made it back.

“ And why shouldn’t he be concerned? We have kicked the proverbial hornets nest. We are designed to improve your survivability on covert missions Miss Casela. Not to go toe to to with a Breen battle scout.”

Back on the Leviathan, Lt McReady was nervous. He’d never seen the captain like this before. Sure, the old man could be a fireball. But when he’d retreated to his ready room following the call from Valkyrja, just for a brief second McReady had seen the depths of terror in Cobb’s eyes.
Since that moment, the captain had answered no hails, had ignored the delivery of his afternoon drink and, as far as McReady could tell, had switched off both his commbadge and the ready room’s channel completely. And whatever he was choosing to focus his attention on instead, it came with the cacophonous sound of pure, unmitigated destruction. As if he were tearing the room apart with his bare hands…

  • Lt McReady

“Hey Alfred tell me when that torpedo is about to explode!” She hits the impulse a little harder, “Bog I need some decoys! I want it to hit that torpedo instead of us. Alfred count down from 5.”

“Ms Casela, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..” Casela hit the warp drive and they disappeared in a fired shower of sparks as the torpedo hit the decoy. They dropped out of warp outside of the system and she landed the shuttle on an asteroid. “Alright Bog, show me how to camouflage this thing. We need to hide the power signature too. We can’t out run them. We’ll have to wait for the Levi. Hopefully we’ve bought some time.”
Lt. Synthi-er

Seeing the warp field begins to collapse, Bog launched the last of the sensor decoys, scattering them across half a light year of space.

“Thanks to the Orion’s, we know that compressed trititaniam damps our signature, the emitters will unfortunately do the opposite. I suggest we set here cold and hope they waste plenty of time tracking down the decoys.”

Bog

Casela nodded, “We can’t sit here long though. Alright Tellek, tell me what this ship has,” She held up a hand to stop Alfred from talking. “You designed everything about her. We can’t out shoot her, we can’t out run her. So tell me what we do have, and we’ll find a way to get out of here. We can’t contact Leviathan at the moment without giving our location away. So we need to make a plan. That little stun didn’t get us far. And hopefully the chase the decoys. But if they are smart they will figure out they are decoys and quickly bypass them.”

“Huey, begin the triple R pecedures and prepare a light meal please.”

“ Besides limited self repair, rearm and resupply capabilities you have seen most of her capabilities, Tho either of the warp cores would make an impressive warhead.

“Food?” Casela shook her head. She looked out the view screen just as the Breen ship appeared and turned heading toward one of the decoys.

While he talked Casela monitored the sensors keeping track of the Breen ship. “What are they doing all the way out here anyway?” She pulled up the sensor logs and started looking at their weapons and firing pattern. She had no first hand experience with the Breen. She didn’t think they’d let two of their phaser arrays get hit in a cross fire like that. And Valkyrja is small, the torpedoes were TOO big for them as a target. It was over kill, and the aiming was bad. Close, but bad bad aim. “It doesn’t add up!”

“Please tell me Tellek this is a holographic simulation gone bad.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“I am afraid I can’t tell you that, But let’s see what your Tactical database can tell us about our new friends.” Bog thumbs up the ship’s tactical database. Tho being a veteran of the Dominion conflict his knowledge of Breen tactics and weaponry was limited to salvage and examinations of wreckage for the intelligence services.

Bog

“Look, Bog, those attack patterns, they aren’t…they’re too simple to be Breen. Their ship to ship combat tactics are sophisticated. It’s like they were running an old computer controlled attack pattern. At least a century old. And the voice on the comm was…sounded almost digitized.” She watched the ship moving further away chasing the sensor decoys. “We can’t stay here forever. The Breen don’t give up. We’re sitting ducks here.” She looked over her shoulder, “Alfred, I think we’ll take Bog’s advice and make a warhead. If the ship gets close enough we’ll drop it, detonate it, and run.”

Casela didn’t quite sit back in her seat. Where was the Leviathan? They were only a light year away. And WHY was there a Breen ship in this sector? How had they not heard about it, and why did long range sensors not pick it up before they were cleared for this flight?
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“The holographic technology cloaking this ship is almost two century old Romulan , but if I remember the drone that used it was controlled by a high level telepath. Now what I know about telepaths would fit on the head of a pin, but if they continued the program they may have switched to primitive AI.” After a moments contemplation”and if ai am using their technology, what is to keep some one else from doing the same.”Porting the ship’s tactical analysis over to the Counselor. “Is this what you mean?” Weapon, drive and shield signatures as well as analysis of known tactics were laid out.

Bog

Somewhere amongst the buttons and lights of the Valkyrja’s console, a single LED would begin to sing of an approaching vessel. Only moments later and the glorious hulk of the USS Leviathan dropped out of warp into the space high above them. Had they been able to see into the CIC at that moment then they would have been met by a most peculiar sight - almost every spare inch of the room, every unmanned station, every empty chair, every section of vacant floor, was covered by mountains of paper diagrams and schematics and blueprints. And in the centre of this chaos, clothed in dress uniform as if en-route to a grand and glorious occasion, was Captain Zachariah Cobb.

“Towards thee I fly, unconquering and all-too-mortal enemy!” he roared, unleashed hair like the locks of Medusa around him. “To the last shall I grapple with thee! From Gre’thor’s heart shall I stab at thee! For the vengeance and the hatred of the entire world will I spit my last breath at thee! Sink all the laden torpedo casings to one common pool! And since neither can be mine, let me then tow to pieces, while still chasing thee, though tied to thee, thou damned and despicable Breen! Thus would I give up myself if I can take thee with me!”
