Description of the festival for any newcomers: https://www.star-fleet.com/core/stf1/leviathan/posts/102382/

Peering around, Durheim saw many an attraction that interested him; and frankly wasn’t quite sure where to start. He settled for the nearest attraction; Bog’s little imps. Kneeling down, he began poking at one; agitating it until it at last leapt at him. Deftly catching it in one metal hand, he inspected it; marveling at the creativity of its’ existence. “Most fascinating, Mr. Bog! I think I have some ideas for this little creature; if you don’t mind my borrowing it.” His eyes gleamed behind the thick lenses as he considered the corn maze. But no, that might be a bit much… Maybe he could release it in that forest; ready to nip at unsuspecting heels?

Durheim, Gremlin

Cobb watched, open-mouthed, as his companions began to entertain themselves with the imps. Why, in their line of work they’d as likely throw these critters in a cage as play with them! But still, he figured there was no harm in allowing some free range fun within the confines of the holodeck. Now, were he to find one of the creatures tearing up his bridge or engineering deck, then they might find their captain not quite so convivial.

Deciding not to indulge in the petting zoo himself, still Cobb drew closer to the fire and to his companions.
“Actually, I am yet to try an attraction myself,” he responded. “There would have been no fun in riding these things alone. As for which one I’d suggest? If you follow that right-hand path all the way up to the treeline, then you’ll find a curious area quite similar in appearance to our own containment deck,” he chuckled, still quietly amazed with the efforts of the Clown on that particular attraction. Then with a shrug to Synthi-er, he added, “Well, you wanted a training session, eh lass? Perhaps you can all get your new pets to join in.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Casela released the holographic imp back into the flames with a laugh. “You have to admit, Zachariah, that Mr. Bog did an impressive job with his entrance. And as much as I might want to put a holo projector in my office to let this thing run around, for my own amusement, I think I scare the crew enough.” She linked her hand through his elbow and nodded off down the path. “Show me this training session,” her voice dropped conspiratorially, “It might be a new form of therapy I can implement.”

As they walked along she stopped at a booth and grinned–she was right ax throwing. She stopped and raised a brow, “Should I?” she asked Cobb nodding towards the booth.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“You going to win me a prize?” Cobb winked back at her, then nodded eagerly for her to try.

She grinned at him. “There are prizes? Hmmm....I’ve never won a prize for this.”

Settling his back against a nearly tree as he prepared to enjoy the spectacle of Casela playing with weapons, Zachariah turned to look at Durheim and Bog.
“If there is one thing I must congratulate the RTF on,” he told them, indicating towards the Counselor, “it’s that they seem to attract the most capable, and deadly, staff!”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

She stepped up to the booth and the man handed her a throwing ax. She flipped it side ways holding onto the handle and then flipped it blade to handle a few times, getting a feel for the weight. She heard Cobb and turned with a raised brow. She bit back a retort of I’m NOT RTF but they’d all just laugh at her. She turned back to the target at the booth. She stepped back slightly on her right foot. She turned the ax in her hand, blade back over her fist and brought her right hand back and then in one smooth motion her hand shot forward, extended and let the ax go to land an inch deep in the center of the target. The next two axes landed the same way despite having to alter her throw slightly due to the different weights. She walked over to the booth and whispered a command to the computer. She returned to Cobb with a stuffed Fire Imp in hand. “Your prize captain.”
Lt. Casela Synthi-er

“I…oh…erm” Zachariah took the stuffed toy, not entirely sure what to do with it. Then, tucking it into his pocket, although being sure to leave its head sticking out, he added, “That was an impressive shot, Cas. Not that I am in any way surprised.”

Unbid and apparently from nowhere as Casela handed her spoils of war to the captain Gen spoke. “They don’t normally look that cute.” She said. She stood as always in her black leggings, oversized grey sweater and grey socks. The sleeves of the top covered her hands, in one of which she held up holding what appeared to be a candy apple. To say she had just appeared was obviously scientifically impossible. Rather it was as if the floor had bent the shadows of the room slightly and she had risen up from them, floating for a split second as the poor surface remembered it was a solid and re-exerted this Knowledge, enabling her to stand. She smiled the crooked sort of half smile she used and bit into the treat she held.

Gen

Casela bit back a smile at Gen’s entrance. “Mr Bog, I think you and Gen might need to compare notes.” She gave Gen a brief hug and then shook her head. “Did you leave Fenrir on the otherside of the floor again?” Fenrir was probably running through the ship’s corridors at the moment to catch up with her. “And no they aren’t that cute. However there are some holographic ones by the bonfire that will follow you if you feed them flaming sticks.” Seeing the apple Casela looked around. “I see the drinks, where’s the food Cpt?”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

Gen relaxed into the hug slightly, ”We were on deck 16…” she said as if this answered the question about the canine.

“ Tho I personally like children and their honesty, they tend to not like me.” Came the grumbled reply from Bog.

Bog

Gen considered Bog. ”Why?” she asked.

“For the life of me, I can not imagine why, Mr Bog,” Cobb’s reply was laden with sarcasm. Then, turning to Gen, he seemed surprisingly, but thoroughly genuinely, glad to see her.

“Ah, Miss Gen,” he moved over and retrieved the stuffed fire imp from his pocket to wave at her. “I hadn’t seen you around for a few days. I’d been worried the abomin…” He stopped and reconsidered the completion of this verbal image. “I mean…well, I’m glad you came to join us. Are you having fun?”

Almost as if by instinct she preached for the toy. ”Fun?” she asked fixing Cobb with her luminous yellow eyes.

Then, hearing Synthi-er loudly inquire about food, and with his own stomach rumbling in agreement, the captain pointed to the other side of the large bonfire.
“This way. There is every type of food you could expect to find at a carnival such as this and possibly a few more surprises besides.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

She followed the adults.

Gen

“Casela tells me I am an acquired taste, dear.” The Tellarite chuckles.

Bog

”Casela told me it’s impolite to eat people, even if its just for a taste.” Gen replied stoically as she treated Bog to a long piercing look from her luminous, glowing neon gaze.

A few moments of silence and she gave a crooked grin again.

Gen
.
Bog looked at the half grown child a moment before realizing it was a joke, not a reference to one of his more common threats. Then he began to laugh. “ I like your portage, Counselor!”

Bog.

Casela watches Bog and Gen and laughs to herself. She would have to send Gen around to bug Bog more often.

Zachariah chuckled at the conversation between Bog and Gen. The teenager seemed to possess a maturity far beyond her visible age and, not for the first time, Cobb found himself wondering on the events that had forced her to grow up so fast. But this was not a night for soul-searching, it was for fun and, in that exact moment, most definitely for food.

Finding a large picnic-style table, Cobb led the group over and then settled himself onto the left-side bench. Almost immediately, an impossibly tall and fully cloaked figure drifted over to them and, bringing a large, gleaming scythe down between them, settled its point on a menu.
“The special tonight is roasted ox,” it hissed as if a thousand voices were speaking at once. “We also have a selection of hamburgers, hotdogs, candy floss, baked potatoes, blooming onions and funnel cake. I, myself, can highly recommend the gagh.”

  • Captain Zachariah Cobb

Casela sat down next to Gen. The image of the Grim Reaper drew her fascinated gaze. This image a little too close to recent events, and too welcome a friend. “Now this spectacle is more than convincing. Is he offering us our last meal?” The good natured challenge at the programed visage obvious. But the voice of the Reaper, was a little too accurate for her comfort. Casela contemplated getting the gagh just because, but she really couldn’t stand the stuff. She’d eaten it plenty when need be, but she never could get over the fact that her food was still alive while she chewed it. “I will have the roasted ox. And I think a funnel cake with powdered sugar and chocolate.” She winked at Gen, “We need more sweets.” She looks back at the Reaper, “And maybe a blooming onion for Mr. Bog. It will make his breath smell better.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS

“Add the potato and the Gagh and something appropriate to drink; if you can.”
Bog sat back to study the skeletal apparition. “I admire your work, Captain.”

Bog

Casela winked at Gen, “He’s a good sport. What are you going to eat, Gen?” From down the path rustles, moans, shrieks, and thudding vibrations could be heard coming from the forest. Casela looked down the path and back at Cobb. “You made a haunted forest?” She rubbed her hands together gleefully. “I’m starting to understand the human fascination with this Halloween of yours.”
