“Tho Federation technology is based on complicated quantum physics, the components are relatively simple and robust. Because of this and our wish for peace we have neglected hard won lessons form early space flight and indeed conflict when the rule was ‘two is one, and one is none’ or in engineering circles ‘a pair and a spare’.

“Now your shuttle proved the reliability of our technology but it wasn’t designed for the realities of combat. So I am simply applying lessons relearned during the conflict with the Dominion.”

Casela listened as Big talked and was fascinated by the ideas he was putting in place. Valkyria would be much faster and more maneuverable than she had been before.

Later that evening would see today’s simulations become reality and tomorrows plans finalized.

That day dawning with the steady brightening of the lights in his cabin, Teller finished the leftovers from the fine meal the Casela had created for him. Wile drinking a fruit juice from his home that contained a rather strong alkaloid stimulant he went over the plans for the offensive systems and the components that needed to be laid down today. Along with phaser banks top and bottom to provide the little ship the best field of Fire when running away or grounded he included micro torpedoes. The launch coils configured to provide a limited secondary warp capability. The primary sensor arrays would go in as well, as they provided part of the targeting system for the weapon mounts.

Casela stopped in to see how things were going. She saw the weapons and the look on her face was like a kid in a candy shop. Her ship’s tactical skills were not much to even consider. She sent a message to Derrick Trainor requesting some training from him. “Phasers and mini torpedoes! Tellek, whatever I did to deserve this tell me and I’ll do it again.”

As his new routine dictated he began designing the next days work wile the programming for the replicators compiled, moving on to his simulations. During his breaks he worked on the HUI program as well.

Then that evening he implemented the previous two days work.

This time Cas just sat back and watched following along on the PaDD with the schematics Bog gave her. As each part finished, she got up and took scans for Bog.
Lt Synthi-er,

“I have grown used to you being around, and you do seem to drag me along on your misadventures. So it’s strictly enlightened self interest Ms. Synthi-er. Bog chuckled “But honestly she is only going to discourage most ships not win a fight, and I am afraid that you will have to balance your energy output to your needs. You just won’t be able to run all systems at maximum output.” Bringing up the projected power curves. “As you can see you have robust systems for a small ship, and if left in balance they are respectable but if your running, don’t expect to have full shields and phasers. Your going to have to dial back one or the other. The same holds true for the holo emitters, they are hungry so will limit power available to other systems.” The power plants provided better than a fifty percent increase in output but if one were to run all the systems at maximum, their demands were more than twice the ship’s original power plant could provide. “Unfortunately one can not have your gauk and eat it too.”

Casela laughed, “So you’re telling me to keep my hot-headedness under control and pick my battles?” Considering her survival, when in the shuttle, depended on her excellent piloting skills, any offensive systems he gave her was appreciated. “I hope it has computerized auto targetting and firing. I’m not up to par on inner ship weaponry.”

The next shift saw the hull plating buttoned up and the tri-core computer installed. The little ship needed a lot of computer not only to operate the holo emitters but also the HUI system.

Unfortunately as the installation of major components ended things began to slow. Double checking and calibrating the components still had to be done buy hand if one wanted maximum performance, other components simply either took to much energy or buffer space to replicate and either had to be created with a 3D fabricator or requisitioned from ship’s stores.

The instillation of the life support system, avionics, replicator/transporter systems etc. would seem to drag.

Valkyrja looked like a totally different shuttle. She was elegant and powerful in appearance. Casela loved it. Of course looks weren’t what was going to make sure so unique. It was what Bog was putting into the systems between the hull and the deck plating. There were no signs left on her of the beatings she’d taken. Thinking of those beatings and near escapes, Casela realized there was something she should have requested and didn’t. She shrugged, she’d done fine without it all these years. And with her track record probably best not to increase her chances. She’d about used them up anyway. Honestly though, other than the frame, it was a brand new shuttle.
Lt. Synthi-er

Bog needed to lay down a centimeter if ablative armor and the low emissive voting, but otherwise she was ready for her space trials. Non of the tech was really new it just might not have been intended to used buy its inventors as he had. Crawled up on top of the shuttle the HUI was scanning the last of the active defenses. The sensor decoys would improve the little ships survivability.

After the transporter/replicator modules had been installed he had brought the warp cores and reactors on line to begin testing them, but as a side effect he had been using the ships own systems to replicate many of the smaller components, freeing up the industrial replicators for maim engineering.

A large chunk of the internal cargo capacity was taken up buy ships components, leaving two benches in the back, generous for two each and cramped for six. The backs folded up to form berths either for sleeping on long flights or casualty stretchers. Below was stowage for equipment.
