Druheim took a mock bow (and scattered dark oil all about as he did so). “Oh, gremlins are such fascinating things, wouldn’t you say, Mr Bog? All evidence suggests that we don’t exist, yet I challenge you to find a single technician or engineer who denies their presence… And I must say, your… getup is truly impressive!”
“Aye, anyone who accuses them as myth should take a look in Commander McHarrie’s lab!” Zachariah chuckled, although since he was the only member of the gathered crowd granted access through those fabled doors, it was possible that the joke was lost on his companions.
Casela shook her head, “Very well done Durheim and you as well Bog.” With an internal laugh she left the three engineers to posture and pontificate amongst themselves. She wandered over to the fires. She quietly called for a pair of fire proof gloves from the computer. She sat down near the fire and watched the imps dancing in and out of the flames. Drawing on the gloves she picked up a stick and lit it in the fire. Then slowly she coaxed one of the imps out of the flames, luring it with the flame on the end of the stick. It wasn’t too long before she had one perched on her fire proof glove, much like a falconer with his bird, and was letting it eat the burning end of the stick. She briefly considered having Bog install holoemitters in her office so she could keep this thing as a ‘pet.’ She was already the crazy, hot headed, scary counselor. Why not a pet made of flame. The idea made her laugh with dark humor. She got up, imp still on her glove, flaming stick in the other hand, and began to wander around the festivities.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS/Monster tamer“Tell me that’s not what I think it is in your hand, Cas,” the captain called out, although were Synthi-er to glance back, she would find his expression one of amusement.
Casela laughed, a rare sound to be sure. “Okay Captain, I won’t tell you, but you’d better not look over here or it won’t matter what I do or don’t tell you.” She had now requested a fire proof shoulder pad, and having buckled it on, had gotten the imp to perch on her shoulder, while still feeding it flaming sticks.
Crewman Durheim, Gremlin
“I will admit to saying prayers, greasing an access cover and leaving offerings on occasion, Mr Durhiem.
Bog
“Aye, as have I,” murmured Cobb, surprised to find the usually practical Tellarite engaging in superstition. Still, one could not be too careful where starship mechanics were involved.
“So, are you planning to check out any of the attractions?” he asked Bog and Durheim, although in truth the pair were quite the attraction themselves.
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
“That depends if the counselor clears me as fit for such amusements dear captain.”
Bog
Casela walked back over, imp on her shoulder. “To be sure Mr. Bog. In fact for you I prescribe you one round of every booth and attraction the festival has to offer. Let you work off some of that Tellerite frustration. Personally I can’t wait to see who wins the ‘Stronger than Dave’ contest.” Personally she was eager to try the ax throwing booth. Knives she could do, axes she’d never done. She was looking forward to trying it. Maybe when things were quiet though. She certainly didn’t need an audience showing up and the fun turn into more rumors.
“What do you think Captain? What attraction would you suggest? I’m sure you’ve seen it all already.” She lit another stick and fed it to the imp who was impatiently fidgeting to get her attention.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSPeering around, Durheim saw many an attraction that interested him; and frankly wasn’t quite sure where to start. He settled for the nearest attraction; Bog’s little imps. Kneeling down, he began poking at one; agitating it until it at last leapt at him. Deftly catching it in one metal hand, he inspected it; marveling at the creativity of its’ existence. “Most fascinating, Mr. Bog! I think I have some ideas for this little creature; if you don’t mind my borrowing it.” His eyes gleamed behind the thick lenses as he considered the corn maze. But no, that might be a bit much… Maybe he could release it in that forest; ready to nip at unsuspecting heels?
Durheim, Gremlin
Cobb watched, open-mouthed, as his companions began to entertain themselves with the imps. Why, in their line of work they’d as likely throw these critters in a cage as play with them! But still, he figured there was no harm in allowing some free range fun within the confines of the holodeck. Now, were he to find one of the creatures tearing up his bridge or engineering deck, then they might find their captain not quite so convivial.
Deciding not to indulge in the petting zoo himself, still Cobb drew closer to the fire and to his companions.
“Actually, I am yet to try an attraction myself,” he responded. “There would have been no fun in riding these things alone. As for which one I’d suggest? If you follow that right-hand path all the way up to the treeline, then you’ll find a curious area quite similar in appearance to our own containment deck,” he chuckled, still quietly amazed with the efforts of the Clown on that particular attraction. Then with a shrug to Synthi-er, he added, “Well, you wanted a training session, eh lass? Perhaps you can all get your new pets to join in.”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Casela released the holographic imp back into the flames with a laugh. “You have to admit, Zachariah, that Mr. Bog did an impressive job with his entrance. And as much as I might want to put a holo projector in my office to let this thing run around, for my own amusement, I think I scare the crew enough.” She linked her hand through his elbow and nodded off down the path. “Show me this training session,” her voice dropped conspiratorially, “It might be a new form of therapy I can implement.”
As they walked along she stopped at a booth and grinned–she was right ax throwing. She stopped and raised a brow, “Should I?” she asked Cobb nodding towards the booth.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“You going to win me a prize?” Cobb winked back at her, then nodded eagerly for her to try.
She grinned at him. “There are prizes? Hmmm....I’ve never won a prize for this.”
Settling his back against a nearly tree as he prepared to enjoy the spectacle of Casela playing with weapons, Zachariah turned to look at Durheim and Bog.
“If there is one thing I must congratulate the RTF on,” he told them, indicating towards the Counselor, “it’s that they seem to attract the most capable, and deadly, staff!”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
She stepped up to the booth and the man handed her a throwing ax. She flipped it side ways holding onto the handle and then flipped it blade to handle a few times, getting a feel for the weight. She heard Cobb and turned with a raised brow. She bit back a retort of I’m NOT RTF but they’d all just laugh at her. She turned back to the target at the booth. She stepped back slightly on her right foot. She turned the ax in her hand, blade back over her fist and brought her right hand back and then in one smooth motion her hand shot forward, extended and let the ax go to land an inch deep in the center of the target. The next two axes landed the same way despite having to alter her throw slightly due to the different weights. She walked over to the booth and whispered a command to the computer. She returned to Cobb with a stuffed Fire Imp in hand. “Your prize captain.”
