OOC: This is open to anyone on Intel or S31. Or anyone who wants to assist. This is an Intel focused story though, just FYI. For timeline purposes this happens OUTSIDE of Sam’s thread.
There was someone else in the room at this point, and it wasn’t Casela anymore. It was someone who until now hadn’t been needed on this ship. A side of herself that had been buried when she’d been sent to Triton. The person shadow man really wanted. “Yes Mr. Bog, delicacy. And if it is a smaller hammer you are like to compare it to, it would be a small jeweler’s hammer, and nothing of greater substance.” While they had been talking, she’d moved, silently without them noticing to the window and was casually leaning up against the bulk head by the window. Her posture was relaxed, but there was a look in her eye that…reflected the rumors about her. “Mr. Bog, is Valkyrja ready to fly? We’re going to need her. If not, how long do you need?”
Cobb raised his head and blinked at Lt Synthi-er. Here was someone he had not seen for a while. A someone whom he had first awoken to when sleeping off a bottle of whiskey in his shiny new bridge chair. A someone who had then proceeded to chastise him thoroughly for his slovenly ways…and in doing so had caused the Leviathan’s new commanding officer to clean up his act. Relatively speaking, at any rate.
Icarus stepped through the door and stopped short at seeing the others gathered. His eyes went from Bog to Syn-thier and finally rested on Cobb. He sniffed at the air and scowled at the scent of over-cooked bacon. “Captain?”
Remington (CIO)
“Mr Remington,” Zachariah greeted his Intelligence Chief, in truth relieved for a temporary distraction from the increasingly confident (and with that, increasingly intimidating) Casela. “Thank you for joining us. Please, take a seat. We’re just waiting for Commanders Raauhl and McHarrie to join us and then Lt Synthi-er will begin the briefing.”
A moment of silence followed, in which the captain once more became aware of that unique, unmistakable, eye-watering scent.
“Ah, Mr Bog,” he called out, “another coffee for Lt Remington, perhaps?”Casela met his gaze with a slightly raised brow. When he had left her office they’d come to some kind of mutual respect for each other’s skills and abilities. Now they were about to find out if they had both made the right decision. As he turned to the captain she stared at the door, waiting, seemingly bored, for the other officers to arrive.
Lt. Synthi-er“ Then a jewelers hammerIt is. Setting back and scratching his beard, “ I would like a month of testing to be sure, but she is bach together, except the paint.” Bog was both enthusiastic as well as hesitant to see how his work held up to Casela. “Give me an hour to put on the ablative and low emissive coating.”
BogAs soon as he had been summoned, McHarrie had sent a message advising he would be there as soon as he had shut down the work he was doing.
The thirty minutes since he sent the message seemed like forever to everyone except John who rang the chime the second he was outside the ready room door…
-McHarrie
“Co…” Zachariah began to reply when immediately he was cut off…
Seemingly bored she barked out, “ENTER.” Not her office, not her ship, not her place, and she didn’t give the hind end of a Veltaric worm. They were wasting time. She respected the care McHarrie took to keep the ship and crew safe from whatever he was working on, but it held them up, slightly. What really set her off though, was it was only McHarrie at the door. “Well Cobb, it seems at least some of the crew knows how to answer when summoned,” alluding to someone who hadn’t showed yet. Her tone didn’t change, her posture relaxed, but a single glance at Cobb, and only he would see, how easily that armor slipped right back into place.
Lt. Synthi-er, CNSHad this been their usual breakfast meeting then Casela’s irreverence to protocol would have bothered him not one jot. But to undermine him here, before other members of his crew…
Having heard the Counsellor’s voice granting him access, John couldn’t help but wonder if she had assumed command.
“I’m sorry, Lieutenant,” John said when the doors parted, “I was summoned by Captain Cobb to his Ready Room.”
He waited outside the threshold for the Captain to invite him in so as to re-establish who was in authority…
“Lt Synthi-er. Now look here…” Cobb began to correct her, then fell silent on a breath. For in that moment he saw what she had truly become. Beneath the primally-forged armor lay a soul in pure, unendurable torment.
“Aye,” he nodded, exchanging with her a single, understanding glance. Then swiftly turned eyes to McHarrie. “Come in, Commander, please take a seat.”“Thank you, sir,” McHarrie replied as he entered. The door hissed shut behind him
She was right on one count though. Where the bloody hell was his charmer of a First Officer?
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Icarus grinned at the counselor and offered, “Perhaps the commander is doing some ‘therapy’ elsewhere on the ship and his comm badge is buried deep inside a junior counselor?”
Remington (CIO)
“Lieutenant Remington, I don’t think…” Cobb’s eyes widened as he began to protest.
“Or someone else,” John quipped with a grin that was inappropriately lighthearted, “I’m sure that whatever his reason for not arriving is clearly important.”
-McHarrie
“Commander, this is not the time or the…” the captain continued to object.
Bog noticed the complaints buy the two senior officers, and found it odd for them to be acting in a decidedly Tellarite manner. “ if the lieutenant wishes to use the XO for her sexual gratification and he hasn’t lodged a complaint I see no reason we should be concerned.”
The gruff tone and guileless face did not hint at any humor.
Bog
“Gentlemen! I did not summon you all here to discuss the sexual activities of my First Officer!” Zachariah roared, rising to his feet and slamming an open palm against his desk. “I have long since stopped noticing the countless females, and males, who sigh longingly into their drinks at the mere mention of his name! And until I have solid evidence that his lateness is due to excessive fornication, then I shall continue to attribute it to less salacious possibilities.”
Casela, on some deeper level recognized the supposed good natured antics Remington and McHarrie were attempting, but she neither cared nor registered it. She didn’t blink nor acknowledge their childish antics. At Cobb’s outburst she did turn her head to look at him. “Perhaps Captain I made an error in selecting people for this team. If they are this easily distracted, I don’t need them going. I’d rather,” and she glanced at Remington, “Not have my ‘six’ covered as it were.” McHarrie knew her reputation, better than anyone else in that room. They knew how they each worked. And Remington, thought he knew. She had thought they’d reached an understanding, but apparently nothing was serious enough for the young intel officer. And they both knew she was deadly serious about having made a mistake. She glanced back at Cobb to see if he agreed with her.
OOC: Pasting the XO back in right at the optimal moment…
“Of course it was” Despite what reasons the other staff in attendance had conjured up for his late arrival Raauhl entered the room, “Apologies for my lateness, some junior officers decided it was a good idea to drink within the vicinity of our containment decks inside what they thought to be an unused storeroom, they were wrong.” He straightened himself out and sat himself down, “The matter has been dealt with.”
- Lt Cmdr Raauhl, XO
Collapsing into his chair once again, Cobb emitted an exasperated sigh and ran a hand through his hair. What he wouldn’t give to be drinking inside an unused storeroom at that moment!
“Aye, well, you shall have to fill me in on it later,” he replied irritably to Ryder. Then his mind returning to their prior conversation, quickly added, “Or don’t. I don’t need the details.”His mug now empty, the captain waved it in the direction of Bog in the desperate hope of an essential refill then, clearing his throat and attempting to claw back some measure of authority, he announced, “Lt Synthi-er, perhaps you should explain why we have gathered everyone here?”
- Captain Zachariah Cobb
Finding the captain’s outburst endearing Bog fetched another round for the two of them and sat back down. His mind was already beginning to turn to the work he had to finish.

In that moment, Casela was reminded why she respected Cobb so much. That simple word “we” shoed a unified decision on their part, and behind the blank mask she wore, she appreciated it. She stepped over towards his desk and picked her PaDD up and glanced at it briefly. “I received a report from a colony on Delotha, on the outer edge of Federation territory. Incidences of practical jokes gone wrong, and much too contemplated for the age of the children committing the pranks.” She looked at the PaDD and read, “Carlin was pushed down in the yard by Vedi, a few hours later Vedi tripped and his leg was broken. Mecona stole Julin’s snack. The next day Mecona choked on his breakfast and the medic almost didn’t make it in time.” Then she glances at Cobb, “Those aren’t all that is reported, and perhaps isolated they aren’t of concern. All these incidents revolve around children living in the orphanage, or who had been living there.” Casela pauses here and looks at each of them. “The most disturbing is a little girl, only 2 years old, who is walking around town with her mother, after being teased about being an orphan. Her mother died in childbirth.”
“The captain and I feel that it is worth determining if this is an anomaly or not. The captain asked who I wanted to take. That is why you are here. Feel free to decline.” Casela didn’t want anyone along who didn’t want to be there. “This is a border world, so no uniforms. They trust Star Fleet about as much an Orion Slave trader. You’ll be there for one purpose. A team brought in by a woman named Zanya to assist the village with whatever they need. Tell them her name and no one will question you, for the most part. Keep to what you know, security, engineering, medicine, people skills. McHarrie how are your cosmetic surgery skills? The Cmdr and I will need some before we leave. Trills and Betazoids are too easy to recognize.” She turned to look at the captain. “I’d like to leave as soon as Bog is done.”
