Shuttle Bay - Valkyrja

Casela made her way down to the shuttle bay. The first months on Leviathan had left her with little time to do the post flight maintenance of her shuttle, Valkyrja, and it was more than past due. She figured that she’d not have reason to fly her anytime soon, but that was no reason to not take care of her. Of course, Casela, was not an engineer, and she didn’t have any doubt that beyond asking the computer to run diagnostics, anything else was beyond her ability. Originally, she had intended to ask Hampton for a recommendation of who to ask about helping, off hours of course, but Hampton…well he hated her, and that was fine. Hampton was also a wickedly talented inventor. And as seen on the Einstein, he could repurpose everything. She didn’t feel like getting any special surprises from him while she was mid flight.
Besides that, there was another wickedly brilliant engineer on the crew, and she was sure he would make plenty of surprises for her shuttle to have, just not aimed at her. And Casela enjoyed the argumentative banter with Bog. They worked well together and seemed to understand each other. So, she hadn’t needed a recommendation after all.
As she entered the shuttle bay, Casela looked around and easily spotted the older, refurbished, Type 8 shuttle, Valkyrja. Of all the places she ever found herself, the shuttle was more home, than anywhere else. She walked over taking her in, the scratches, pock marks, and burns to her hull. All signs of the escape from her last mission. She was a sound ship, and had been through a lot. She was past due for some much needed TLC. And with any luck, maybe a few upgrades.
=^=Lt. Synthi-er to En Bog. Report to the shuttle bay please, and bring your tools.=^=
Casela input the lock code and the door opened. She stepped inside and paused, looking around. The interior didn’t look as good as the outside. Panels were blown, conduits needed replacing, and a possible power transfer to get her turned back on.
Lt. Synthi-erTellar had been confused when he showed up for shift to find his schedule cleared and Hampton colder than usual. Walking into the shuttle bay his confusion instantly cleared.
“And what do you expect me to do with this old ragamuffin?!” The old type 8 was nothing if not well worn and nondescript. Bog suspected the Counselor had some mischief planned.

Casela stepped out of the back of the shuttle at the sound of the shuttlebay corridor doors opening. “Ah Mr. Bog, this” she patted the side of the hull, “Is Valkyrja. My shuttle.” Casela laughed, “This old ragamuffin needs some new tricks, Mr. Bog. Well first she needs,” she looks over the damage, “a lot of work. But I was hoping you might have some ideas for a few tricks to give her.” She walks around surveying the damage again, “She’s been through her paces and then some. I’m hoping she can be made space worthy again, after my last trip out with her.”
Lt. Synthi-er, CNS“With enough time I can make a recycling bin space worthy, lieutenant. The question is, would we better off starting with a recycling bin?”
“Well if you don’t think you can do it, say so. I’ll find someone who can.” Casela chuckled. She loved the banter with Bog. She had no doubt he could make a recycle bin space worthy, but she needed Valkyrja space worthy.
Walking around the ship, peering into nooks, crannies and service panels. “ What exactly are we prepping her for? What ever it is seems to have the CO in a tizzy.”
A quick check had shown that he had been given priority access to the machine shop, industrial replicators and cargo transporters. Only two People on the ship with the chops to know what he would need for this job and Hampton dang sure didn’t authorize it.
Bog
Casela raised a brow, “By now I would think you’ve heard the gossip about me Mr. Bog. This shuttle should be prepared for anything and everything. I’m a hot head, remember. There’s no telling what I might get involved with or who I might make mad. Not everyone is as understanding as you.”
Lt. Synthi-er“ I am rather easy to get along with, aren’t I” still poking around looking at the damage” Time frame?”
She was reparable, but if the space frame was as stressed as the rest of the ship an over haul might be in order.
Bog
“How ever long you need. The sooner the better. I’m not planning on going anywhere any time soon.” Unless she decided to jump out an airlock. But she wouldn’t need the shuttle for that. “But whatever upgrades you give her, are confidential. I don’t want the whole ship knowing about it. But on that note if you need help, get it. Just make sure you trust them.” She stops here thinking about the last time she took her out. “Would there be a way to put holoemitters on the outside, to use the projections like camouflage?”
Lt Synthi-er“That’s an old Romulan trick we use for precontact survey teems. Should be easy enough. Won’t fool modern sensors unless maned buy an idiot, but their are other ways to spoof them.”
“But can it be used in space? Like if I want to hide her in a nebula. Can I use the holoemiters to make it look like I’m not there? Visually anyway?”
Taking a more critical look at the exterior, seeing both ground fire and near misses from heavier ordinance. “Did you use her for a batting ram?” Noting the impact damage. It was a testament to her designers she even made it this far.
Casela shrugged, “Not on purpose, took out some boulders and some trees when I got hit before I got her righted.”
“Defensive and offensive upgrades?” Bog asked? He had some ideas but it would reduce her cargo capacity.
Bog
“Both if her system can take it. I know she’s older, so there is only so much she can take unless we put in a whole new system into the frame.” Casela wasn’t opposed to that, but she doubted she had enough credits for all of that. She had a ton of credits, there was nothing she used them on, but she wasn’t rolling in it either.
Lt. Synthi-er
“I will see what I can do, there is potential here the Type 8 is really just an upgraded Type 6. So it’s a proven design.” Cost never entered the Tellurites mind, aboard a federation dreadnought as long as the reactors we on line and the replicators functioning most components could be replicated from the original molecular material even the entire space frame was not impossible. Subsystems for the most part were just the cost of raw materials and anything else was either available threw their Farringi contacts of the Einstein salvage.
“I imagine you don’t what her to look like a gunboat, but how much leway do ain’t have with the original appearance?”
