“Now Doc, I do enjoy your company but I have to admit that you frighten me more than a little” Tho he was still smiling, he was obviously serious.”And besides your wrath the last thing I want is to hurt one of my crew mates.” Taking a sip. “ let’s say I put the squak back on for the first time user, and a confirmation protocol for exceeding 400mg a day. A report could be generated for sickbay as well in the case of excess.” The idea of harming another with a food item was a little unsettling. Like many of his generation one was somewhat caviler about your personal safety, as the assumption was that medical would fix it.“I’d appreciate that,” She grinned, “I wouldn’t want to deprive anyone of their coffee but a doctors first duty is to the well-being of the crew.”
“As to uploading the recipe for you, I would be honored. The big kid like grin back on his face.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo.
“Thank you,” she grinned back, she had missed a good coffee and couldn’t hide her excitement of having access to it once again. Taking another sip, this time with a bite of baklava to accompany it. “I’d say with your engineering talents, the Dresden is blessed to have you.” she ruffled Enj’s fur ignoring the way he was not-so-subtily begging for a pice of baklava. “So what other projects are you working on presently?”
Lt. Janvier, CMO
Stores eyes narrowed a bit, but still maintained their sense of mischief. He certainly wasn’t going to tell her about the bourbon or moonshine recipes he was working on, being able to come up with a bottle to smooth things over with the CO was on his list, as was trading stock with the civilian side of Star Bases they may call on. Replacing his phaser was well underway, but the personal transporter had to wait on an unsecured replicator. “I’m always tinkering with something, been working on a method of repairing plasma conduits institute. But that’s a long term project, as it seems to be three steps forward and two back.”
“I am always willing to to take projects on”Stores winked”As long as I don’t get drug in front of the XO or worse, keel hauled buy Captain Holloway that is.”
“I wouldn’t wish that on anyone,” Elaine laughed, thinking of how she had accidentally stumbled on Holloway dressing down an Ensign who had screwed up on his jobs. She hadn’t minced her words at all, and Elaine had snuck off again wincing in sympathy for the poor man.
His face taking a serious look,” What about the good Doctor, what do you get up to in your free time?”but he couldn’t hold it as his face split into a grin.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Elaine blinked. What did she do in her free time? Most of her spare time was spent in Sickbay, even when she wasn’t supposed to be on shift. If she wasn’t being a doctor than she was studying. And when she wasn’t doing that? What did she like to do for fun? At the Acadamy all she had done was study. It had been easier than going out somewhere and starting a fight. Even as a teenager, all the parties she had attended had been as a means of gaining attention rather than for fun. “Sometimes my staff drag me out to a concert if there’s one on. One of the nurses found out I didn’t get out much and now my staff invite me along if someone from medical is performing. I’m a bit of a book nerd,” she blushed, hoping she didn’t sound too lame, “I often forget to do much else. But,I do enjoy the concerts, I’m not talented like that, so it’s nice to support others who are.”
Lt. Janvier, CMO
“Nothing wrong with that Doc, Intelligence is sexy.” Stores grin was devilish, but not lascivious. “Your not the only one who spends to much time working and to little socializing.”
“Tho your partner in crime here I am sure fills that need.” Tilting his head to Enj. You to make quite a pair.”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Elaine chuckled and ruffled Enj’s fur. She was relieved that Stores didn’t think she was weird like her extrovert cousin did. Although why she cared was was something she would have to unpack later on.”Enj is definitly the social butterfly.” Said dog’s tail thumped against the chair at the mention of his name, “Although, I think that was the point. He was a gift from my cousin, May, in my last year at the acadamy. She thinks I’m too withdrawn so she got him to help me ‘make friends’.” Another laugh, “I think her exact words were something like ‘something adorable and sweet to befriend people for you, but it has teeth.’ He certainly is the friendliest companion ever, but I don’t think he’s ever bitten anyone. He’s too good natured for that. It makes him the perfect moral officer.”
She stared into her coffee wondering how much she should say, “I think she only said that because I-” dont think about it “-I got jumped in my dorm and had a hard time trusting… well anybody after that.” She shrugged doing her best to sound nonchalant, “At any rate he was a good pick for me, and he’s such a big hit with the patients in Sickbay.” A fond smile graced her face and she stroked absantly at Enj’s fur, “We’re a team, him and I. I make them the patients better and he makes them feel better.”
Lt. Janvier, CMO & Enj
“Cute and adorable but with teeth describes you pretty well Doc” Stores said but at the revaluation she had been attacked he regretted the flippant response.” I’m sorry, wish I had some magic words to make that go away” his eyes sad.” I’m no body special Doc, but If you ever need a friend, other than Enj I’ll be there.
Naturally he wanted to know exactly what happened, he assumed the worst but that was for the Doctor to share on he own terms and her own time. For now he would repay her kindness with patience.Clinton”Stores”Reed, supercargo
Elaine smiled, something sad and warm at the same time. “Thanks, I really appreciate that,” she took a sip of the coffee, holding the mug strictly. It wasn’t a period of time she liked to visit often, and although the information was in her file the number of people who knew was small. It wasn’t something she liked to talk about and even her closest friends and family knew precious more than what she had told Stores. It was the barest of bones, but for the time being it was all she was ready to share. “Friendship goes both ways. If you ever need a friend, my door is always open to you.”
Enj realising that Elaine wasn’t going to pat him again anytime soon, hoped up beside Stores and attempted to lick his face. “I think Enj is saying he’s your friend too,”
Lt. Janver, CMO & Enj
“It is indeed. One must cultivate those worth of your friendship buy being a good and reliable friend”, tho it did not come out particularly clear under the furry assault. Stores stood up with Enj in his arms “let’s see about getting you something from the replicator as well.”
Striding across the mess to return with the ball of fur tucked under one arm and a bowl of warm bone broth and a biscuit.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
The doctor laughed as she watched them make their way back to the table. Holding onto a wiggling Enj was no easy feat and the fact that Stores was mangaing to carry a the broth and biscuit at the same time was nothing short of impressive. “I think you are going to be his new favourite person,” she commented watching as Enj alternated between trying to lick Stores and sniffing at the hand that held all the food.
Lt. Janvier, CMO & Enj
“I have been told I am a lot like fungus, Doc.” Stores winked then set the goodies and Enj under the edge of the table. “Tho the little tribbel grows on you too.”
Straitening up and stretching a bit before setting down again.Enj sniffed at the bowl and looked up at sStores waggin his tail as if to say ‘Thank you’ before happily eating the food with typical canine gusto.
“So what kind of story are we going to come up to tell your staff? I mean if they’re going to start rumors any way at least we can make it wild and over the top.” The glint of mischief evident in his eyes.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“They will won’t they?” The doctor laughed, “If it’s going to be all over the ship by the end of the next shift we may as well make the story a good one.” She hadn’t even thought about her what her staff was going to say. Between the rose he had gifted her and the coffee they were now having, it wouldn’t take long for them to jump to conclusions and start talking.
Cocking her head to the side, she leaned forward conspiritorially “What do you have in mind?”
Lt. Janvier, CMO & Enj
Leaning forward to meat her gaze, “Well a spring and fall romance would be arch typical to easy, their likely to come up with that on their own. I mean, we have all heard about the wickedly charming Doctor seducing the innocent but dashing Ensin…” but he in the end couldn’t keep a strait face and grinned as her leaned back. So it has to be something completely off the wall. Your not an artist buy chance? I can be posing for a portrait?” Stores winked.
Doc Javier was easy to be with, and he hoped he had strung a coherent sentence to gather with out sticking his foot in his mouth.Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
She hadn’t even thought about the gap in their ages until Stores brought it up, she’d noticed but it had never been something she had reflected on. With him sitting across from her, it gave her ample opportunity to study his features. He was at least 20 years older than her, his face showed evidence of being weathered by time. But it added to his charm rather than detracted from it. He was witty and genial, it was easy to be herself with him and she found that mattered more to her.
“Well this ‘charming and seductive’ Doctor could paint you like the French do,” The corners of the doctors mouth twitched, “But only if the ‘innocent and dashing’ Ensign thinks stick figures will do his fine physique justice. I can guarantee it will give the medical department something to talk about,” Her eyes twinkled, betraying how she was enjoying herself just as much as Stores was. The food was good, the coffee was good and the company was good.Lt. Janvier, CMO
Stores smile widened until it looked like his face would split in half. “Well” his voice tinged buy laughter “ I had hoped one of us had artistic ability” beauty, intelligence and a kind but strong personality, the young woman was the trifecta. If he wast carful he would be acting like a love sick pup.
“We couldn’t possibly let them come to their own conclusions, could we?” The idea of the rumor mill spinning up with this improbably yarn had its appeal. The mischievous gleam in his eyes was almost diabolical.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Hmmm,” Elaine pretended to think deeply about it. She held the coffee up to her lips and pretended to take a sip, even though she had already finished her coffee. “What would they say? Besides the obvious of course,” She set her cup down again, her eyes twinkled with a mischief of their own. “Why you could almost say it could be worth placing a friendly wager on.” She wasn’t a gambling girl, but she did find the pleasure in the occasional friendly wager where neither party lost much more than a little pride or the last slice of Grans pie.
Lt. Janvier, CMO
“I’m game, what are the terms?” He knew he would chose something outrages just for kicks. He didn’t really care win or loose, he was just enjoying the company. “And the wager?” He was interested in hearing what she would come up with. Her sense of humor seemed his match. “Well, dear lady what do you have in mind?”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“What if we each guessed what the most unusual rumour about us is going to be? Which ever one of our guess becomes a rumour first is the winner. Looser cooks dinner” she winked. “What do ya say?”
Lt. Janvier, CMO
“Not sure convincing a replicator into producing passable copies of food would be considered cooking, but if your willing to explore my ‘recipe collection’ then I’m game.” Stores chuckled. Win loose or draw he would get to spend more time with the Doctor, a win in his book. “ I think that despite having the home court advantage, you would go first dear lady.” Carful not to get caught with a mouth full of coffee he waited with the cup to his mouth with an eyebrow cocked in anticipation.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“If you can tolerate anything I throw together I think I’ll manage whatever you have in your ‘recipe collection’.” She grinned, sure that whatever his collection contained with the kind of magic Stores could work around a replicator it would be fine. Especially given she already knew what he could do with coffee. “I think someone is going to think it’s the residual effects of a love potion.” she was trying to keep as straight a face as she could, “My staff know I’ve been researching something. Maybe you’re the first successful test subject. Or someone accidentally dropped a vial next to us who’s to say.” Elaine couldn’t help it her face broke into a grin at the absurdity.
Lt. Janvier, CMO
Stores started to laugh, “I would think the last thing you would need is a love potion.” The Doctor was kind, intelligent and attractive not to mention tough. She certainly didn’t need any magic, other that what she was born with. “So if we assume then that they will jump on the romance band wagon, I think they are more likely to assume I am the one with nefarious plans, but how would I pull it off? Perhaps transporter psychosis?, no I think we will go with mind control…”
It was so easy to to talk to the Doc. She was sweet, intelligent and easy to look at. If only he was twenty years younger.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Mind control,” The doc repeated, glad she had put her coffee to the side for the moment. She had been struggling to maintain a straight face when she had been talking, but now her laugh bubbled freely, amused at the idea that somebody might think she was under mind control. “I doubt anyone with your charm needs mind control either,” she chuckled, her eyes twinkling in amusement. Stores was older, yes. If she had to guess she thought was roughly around the same age as her parents would be. Could almost have his own children around her age if he had started early enough. But, she found none of that bothered her as much as it could or should. His age didn’t detract from his looks at all, with his smooth skin and blue eyes, he was well on his way to becoming a silver fox.
More importantly Stores was likable, he had a sort of roguish charm to him that some liked and others hated and a heart of gold. It was that, that she found more important. She’d already done the whole pretty boy shebang and it hadn’t ended well. He’d been easy on the eyes, but that was it. If anything she’d learned that personality mattered the most and in the short time she’d known him, Stores had proven to be witty and clever but also a bit of a gentleman. She found herself quite enjoying his company. He was easy to talk to, easy to be around and he made a dang good coffee.
Lt. Janvier, CMO
Stores sat a moment with a goofy grin on his face just admiring the woman’s face. His habit of maintaining direct eye contact in a conversation was to some disconcerting. “Your company is good for me, Doc. We need to make this a regular thing.”
Intelligence was so damn sexy. The Doctor was wonderful company and the fact that he was just a little afraid of her made her all the more attractive..
Clinton “Stores” Reed, Supercargo
Elaine’s face changed, an almost soft smile graced her features, “I’d like that,” she said and grinned, “If the coffee’s always this good I don’t know how I could resist.”
Enj, having finished licking his bowl clean jumped up into Stores lap and licked his face. His tail wagged in a very happy manner. He looked like a satisfied dog.
Lt. Janvier CMO & Enj
“You back already?” Stores laughed, petting that little ball of joy. “There is a pretty good algorithm in place to make sure it isn’t the same cup every time.” Continuing to pet Enj.
Enj wagged his tail happily and curled up comfortably. His eyes slipped shut, ready for a nap as Stores pat him.
“I think I will look forward my check ups, dear Doctor. If only to see this little guy.” The wink and the smile hinted at more.”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Enj” the doctor stressed the dogs name, sparing the aforementioned animal a fond glance “will be looking forward to your check ups too.” Of course it wasn’t just Enj that would enjoy a visit from Stores. =^= Sickbay to Lieutenant Janvier =^= Elaine’s communicator beeped, interrupting anything further the doctor might have had to say. Elaine raised an eyebrow. Her staff knew that she was off duty unless there was an emergency her head nurse Lucia should be in charge. =^=Janvier here, whats the problem Ensign? =^= at the other end a noise which sounded a lot like a sigh followed by a murmur drifted through. =^= Sorry Doc, it’s Ensign Lopaz, she’s gone into labor early and she’s insisting on you delivering the baby. I told her you were off duty but she demanded that I tried to reach you. =^=
=^= Where is Lucia? She should be able to do it.=^= Elaine frowned and glanced at Stores. She wasn’t exactly thrilled at being called into Sickbay when she was with company. At least not for something that plenty of the other doctors and nurses could do. The NE other at the line seemed to understand exactly how she felt because they sounded sympathetic when they responded =^= Lucia’s with her now. Doc, Lopaz is refusing to push until you get here. She’s 7 centimetres dilated =^= So close, but not quite there yet. She could see why her staff were so worried. If Lopaz didn’t push when she was supposed to, than she could risk damaging herself and the baby.
Elaine glanced apologetically at Stores “Speak of duty and it will call.” she sighed, quickly finishing off the last of the pastry, knowing she’d need it to keep her strength up. There was no telling how long this labour would last for, and there wouldn’t be time for many snacks until after the baby was born. She paused when she caught sight of Enj curled up on Stores’s lap. He looked so peaceful she was loath to disturb him, but she wasn’t sure she had enough time to arrange for someone else to look after him. “I’ll have to take a rain-check,” she winked, “It takes more than one dose to fill a prescription,”
Lt. Janvier (CMO) & Enj
Listening on the conversation, “Do you and Enj need a lift?” Stores had already engaged his tricorder link and was spooling up a sight to sight transport. Over the years he had become almost well versed in using the hud in his day to day duties. It made him able to almost seem to work magic.
