They were nearly identical and could easily have been related. “No, no bother at all. Hello, Enj.” She pet the critter a couple more times before focusing back on the Doc. “Lieutenant Priscilla Simms for my check in physical. I’m the new Science Chief. I hope I am not here at a bad time? I can come back if you wish.” She smiled brightly at the woman, her hand still absently entertaining the dog at her hip on the bed.

Elaine blinked realising she had been staring. They could be sisters and knowing what little she did about her promiscuous absent parents, she couldn’t help but wonder if Priscilla was. “Sorry… no, now is fine.” She flashed a professional smile as she forced herself to focus on doing her job. “Welcome aboard, I’ve only just returned from shore leave myself.”

“Have you got any medical history that I should be aware of?” Janvier asked, pulling up a medical PADD to see if Priscilla’s medical information had been transfered through yet. Sometimes it had and sometimes it hadn’t. She found it never hurt to ask as the patient could occassionally bring up additional information that the doctor had neglected to add into their file for any reason.

Priscilla smiled and shook her head. “No, nothing I can think of.” She had caught the woman’s stare and tried not to laugh. “I admit I wondered the same. If we could have been related at some time. It’s not unlike a warped mirror image you can’t quite place. I’m guessing that’s what you were thinking?” She watched the woman work with a smile.

A faint blush tinged the doctors cheeks. She hadn’t meant to be so obvious. “I never really knew my parents. My Grandmother raised me and my cousin,” she admitted, picking up the tricorder “I always wondered if I had any real siblings out there. You look so similar, I guess I couldn’t help it being my first thought.” She chuckled slightly as she gently moved Enj away so that the tricorder wouldn’t confuse his bioscans with Priscilla’s.

Priscilla smiled and pulled her left sleeve up a bit. “Take a fresh DNA sample and find out.” She said it so matter of fact it might seem odd. “In all honesty, I can’t tell you. But I can say, it’s gonna drive you nuts till you know. And you’ll go crazy wondering. So just go ahead and take the sample. You can run it later and tell me how it goes. How’s that?”

((If you are game, I’m willing to let the GM decide if and at what level they are related.... how’s that?))
((I love the idea. I’m definitely game to try it. Their fate is in the GM’s hands.))

Elaine smiled, unable to hide her excitement, her family had been a mystery to her and the chance that she might find one was too good to pass up. “Thank you,” she quickly traded out her tricorder for a device used for taking DNA samples. Priscilla would feel a slight prick and that was it. When Elaine pulled the device away, there wasn’t even a dent to her skin. “I’ll let you know what the results when you get them.” Even if they weren’t related the doctor was sure she’d be happy to call the science officer a friend.

Priscilla was glad to see the woman smile. It would be uncanny if her family was truly shared with the woman before her. It struck the Science Chief that the blow of a negative would crush the poor Doc. Either way, she made a promise to herself to see to it they became friends. “Well, I have other check ins, but how about I come find you tomorrow after work and we see what happened. Shall we?”

With the DNA samples now securely tucked away where Elaine could imput them into the computer later, alongside a strand of her own DNA, the doctor resumed her original task of completing the Chief Science Officers check in. “I would like that.” It made sense that the other officer be there. Relation or not the outcome of the test results could affect Priscilla, though Elaine was more invested. She hadn’t realised until the oppertunity had been handed to her, just how much of her childhood curiosity still lingered. She wanted to be optimistic about the results, but she knew, in the back of her mind, that it would be wise to have somebody else there with her. Just incase.

“Great! See you tomorrow, then. Have a good rest of your shift.” Priscilla smiled with a nod and left Medical realizing her life was about to change. Actually, she knew it would. On one hand, tomorrow she would have a sister. On the other, she had made a friend she knew would be a good and lasting one.

“Welcome aboard,” The doctor returned, watching the sway of Priscilla’s walk, thinking how kind it was for the other officer to indulge Elaine’s curiosity about her family history. There weren’t many people in the universe who would aid a stranger they had just met like that. Priscilla’s own strand of DNA felt heavy in Elaine’s hand as if it knew that it held the future of two woman within.

“Lucia,” the CMO found her head nurse and long time friend performing a routine post-surgery check up on a patient. “When you have a moment, meet me in my office with a DNA extractor.” she turned around, leaving NE Lucia dumbfounded by the unusual request. She was delaying the inevitable torrent of questions and comments until they were in the privacy of the CMO’s office. In less than a day she could have found another relative or made a friend.
