OOC: The part of the bronze clad warrior is copied and pasted from posts of a past member. This was a thread we had done ages ago, and I welcome anyone else who wishes to take part.

It was early in the morning as the big Ops Chief strode through the passageways. Daggum was dressed in simple long sleeved black sweat shirt and sweat pants, and carried a large, even for him, black duffel bag. Arriving at the holodeck, he tapped the console and said =^=Computer Program Balian, Daily Bravo=^=

The computer trilled it’s compliance, and the door slid open, revealing a beautiful stretch of white sand, and glimmering azure waters, in the distance rose hills, and off to the left were the Ruins of some sort of Ancient building.

Hammor nodded in appreciation and bent over and wordlessly opened the bag by his feet. From inside he retrieved an assortment of odd weaponry and a tangled mass of leather and metal plates. Laying the weapons on the ground, he placed a short spear with a long, fine chain attached to the hilt; a curved knife made of some kind of stone joined in next in line, and then a wicked looking metal hammer. Lastly, he pulled out a round rock that was discolored in places. Oblong impressions worn into the sphere looked like they would fit a large hand. This Hammor set almost reverently last in line. Standing up, he shook out the mass of leather straps and laid them out on the sand. Stripping off his sweats, he a mass of tattoos, brands, and scars all over his torso and limbs was revealed. He lifted the straps over his head and began fastening them in a well-practiced routine. In a matter of moments he was dressed in leather straps with metal plates covering most of his vital areas of his chest, arms and legs. The straps themselves were stained dark and seemed well used. Anyone with a knowledge of the darker side of the cultures of the Alpha quadrant would recognize the gladiatorial gear the large Orion was wearing; designed to keep the wearer alive (if they were good), but allowing for blood to flow. Lastly, he retrieved a silvery-gray metal helmet with a full face plate. He set it under his arm, fastened all the weapons to various hooks and ties on the armor, hefted the stone in one hand, and looked out to sea and nodded.

“For you, Captain.” he said softly.

Hammor, Ops Chief

Priscilla couldn’t sleep. She’s dozed off and on and finally chosen to just get up.

Halfway down the corridor it occurred to her to use the holo deck to perhaps stroll a more peaceful setting. Oddly enough, the first one she came to was occupied. Since the settings weren’t private, she glanced at the screen and saw the new OPs Chief strapping himself into a harness. She was fascinated by the marks covering his body and soon found herself immensely curious what his plans were for such an archaic outfit and mismatched set of implements at his feet.

No longer restless to wander, she found herself immersed in what would come next from the man she was more than a touch curious about.

A moment later, a figure appeared next to Hammor. He was dressed in bronze scaled leather greaves and battle sandals. Those were paired with a flared skirt made of strips of leather with bronze medallions sewn into them. The helmet he carried in his left hand was black leather with a black stiffened plume. His chest and back where covered with stiffened leather that was inlaid with bronze as well. Arms were covered from the backs of the hands to just below the elbow. The shield and weapons he carried matched the set that sat behind his desk in his ready room. They were more modern in material, and looked new.

“Chops I may have to start calling you Maximus, or Spartacus, Spartacus, we already have a Max.” and he laughed. Turning from the water towards the man said “Shall we defeat an army, or each other?”

Hammor, Ops

The second man surprised Priscilla. Not in his appearance, but in the fact that he was an ally in this. The fighter’s similarity to Hammor in garb and weapons drew a deeper curiosity from the CSO. Feeling like a spy, or eavesdropper, she checked to see if the door was secured. If it wasn’t, she’d step just inside and pause till Hammor glanced her way.

Hoping, desperately, this didn’t become the same as the hanger, she nodded respectfully. “Forgive me, Chief. I thought it would be more pilot to ask if I could watch, rather than hover at the door console like some peeping Tom.”

While the sim paused, Hammor looked at the interruption. Seeing her, he inclined his head and said simply “There are no spectators, only participants. If you know how to fight, stay and fight. If you don’t, this may prove painful. You’re call, Lieutenant.”

Hammor, Ops

She nodded once more. “My guess is the safeties are down a bit low for my level of experience. But perhaps we can discuss it sometime.” It killed her to say no, admitting her basic combat skills weren’t up to par. She glanced at the outside sim companion and was actually jealous of it for a moment. “I admit I am curious.”

Hammor shrugged and said “Then watch… but I’d recommend doing it from outside. If you feel your are capable after seeing, next time you can join Captain Barazan and myself.” As he said the name, he nodded sideways to the figure next to him.

Hammor, Ops

“Thank you, Chief.” She smiled at him a moment more then stepped back outside and restarted the sim. She got a comfortable stance and settled in to watch with hope she could take him up on his offer sooner, rather than later.

As the door closed, the program resumed immediately and Hammor smiled grimly and said to the figure “I don’t think it would do your opinion of me any good to beat you so early in our relationship, Sir.” and chuckled. “Let’s see how we do fighting together. That will be the more common situation. At least… I hope it is.” And he looked down the beach and placed the helmet on his head and slid the visor in place. It covered all but his mouth, but the eye slits were wide enough to allow for peripheral vision. To the uninitiated, he looked absolutely terrifying. “Let’s see this army.” he said, rolling his head and shoulders to loosen them up.

Balian nodded, and unslung the shield, shifting the long spear into his hand on his shield arm. The shield was then tightened down to stay in place. The sword was sheathed to the inside of the shield not his back as would have first appeared. The Weapons were designed and placed to be within easy reach, and use. The Dark helm settled onto his head with the stiffened plume rising then trailing down to his shoulders.

As the helmet settled the lighting shifted slightly, suddenly there were more clouds than before. Far off shore in the distance, there were the sounds of men and snapping canvas, and the horizon was dotted with many ships coming towards the shore. One boat appeared to have already grounded, but there were no men aboard. What had been ruins to the right now appeared whole and glittered with gold adornments and flame topped braziers.

“There first.” Balian stated pointing towards the temple building. “Behind us are our reinforcements still sailing in, ahead will come the enemy shortly, but for now, over there we have enemies awaiting us.”

Hammor nodded silently and took up position next to the Captain, barely a hands breadth between them. His fingers found the grooves in the large stone easily, and filled his hand with the rock. Loosening the hammer from his side, he grasped it by the handle. A deep breath with a slow exhale came from his chest, but no words issued forth.

Barazan made good on his own words, there was a slight crunch of sand as he stepped forward, and within 3 steps was trotting with the ground eating stride known to infantry fighters the universe around. The Legionnaires shuffle, the quick time march, it was a pace that could be held for long distances and longer periods of times with proper rest breaks. There were men now appearing on the upper steps of the building they were heading towards. There was not a glance to see where Hammor was, it was assumed that he was keeping pace as the ground was covered.

Hammor fell into stride just behind Barazan and covered the ground with the same practiced ease. He saw the men on the steps and said simply “On the steps. I’ll take the second one when they reach the base. Go for the lead.” His speech was even, as if he wasn’t even running.

Balian nodded instead of speaking, the ordering was sound would let the larger man hit with even more impetus than hitting the lead would do. Balian executed what would be called a border shift had it been done with a gun in the Wild West, moving his spear from his shield hand to his open hand, the haft whirling to tuck under his arm as he ran. The point of the spear was all that touched the lead man as Balian planted a foot on the bottom step then used the rail for his second step around the man. The point catching his target in the throat and his movement sweeping the shield between him and the target for protection, almost naturally instinctually as he moved. His intrinsic and implied trust was obvious as he paid the second man little to no mind as he climbed the stairs past him.

Hammor drew back his arm holding the stone and hurled it at the second in line, just missing Barazan as he executed his coup de gras on the lead target. The stone flew past his spear weilding compatriot and struck the second man full in the face. The sicking sound of crunching bone and soft tissue being compressed followed the ‘thud’ as the stone made contact. His target came to an abrupt stop and toppled backwards as he fell where he was when the stone hit him. Even as the stone flew, Hammor had reached and retrieved the curved stone knife with his right hand and the hammer with his left. Reaching the steps, he began bounding up two-at-a-time, catching up to the Captain and protecting his unshielded side.

With the large Orion now on his unshielded side, Balian took a split second to select a target nearer to the doorway. There was an exhalation of air as the spear flashed forward through the air as it was thrown. It pinned its target against the wooden frame, as Barazan drew his sword. While he was good with the spear the sword seemed to be designed as an extension of his arm. There was a shift in his posture, in his attitude that said this was the weapon that he preferred, and now was ready to actually fight.

Hammor moved quickly to block one side of the door. As forms came to threshold, they were met by a flurry of thrusts from the stone dagger, it’s tip piercing into and sliding out of vital areas quickly and efficiently. Limbs and weapons that came through were battered down by accompanying hammer blows, leaving each broken and bent. To the uninitiated, it seemed savage. To the practiced eye, it was worse. Each cut and slice of the blade severed tendons, ligaments, and nerves… but didn’t kill. Each blow of the hammer shattered joints and cracked long bones… but left the target alive. It wasn’t until there were no real threats that lives were ended, either with a stab or slash; or with the unmistakable crunch of shattered skull.

Hammor, Ops

Priscilla watched in rapt fascination as the dance unfolded before her. Dance was the appropriate word for the macabre scene she watched. Each step placed with near choreographed precision. Every stroke a graceful sweep of an appendage. The edge of her lip curled up as she imagined a physician watching, marveling at the anatomical knowledge of the brutes before her.

It was with a combative eye that Priscilla watched. Hammor had said perhaps next time she could join them. And she took that very serious as she seemed to remain unblinking thru the entire scene. Her own right hand was unconsciously moving, mirroring the sword and knife moves she witnessed. She was fairly skilled with a combat knife. A sword, spear, or even shield was out of her league, though. With the expertise Hammor worked it, she knew she wasn’t up to par with a rock, either.

There had been others mentioned. So with baited breath, she continued to view the professionalism and admired the skills.
