Stores had spent the better part of the last hour in the gym, age and lifestyle competing at an unfavorable advantage against his need to keep up with the younger crew had made it a regular habit. Tho it had tightened up some of the flab, he still sported a belly, tho the muscles were firm over the underlying fat.

Stores wonders into the mess about half an hour earlier than his usual habit, but it was already doing a brisk business. He made is way to the replicator banks and ordered a simple breakfast of resequenced eggs, sausage, toast and a pitcher of synth orange. Then began the daunting task of finding some where to sit.

She had been alerted when Reed had wakened and had truly stopped him from grabbing a ‘snack’. She checked on him and discovered he had gone to the gym so she had waited for him in the mess. As Reed turned to look for a place to sit, a hand came out of the corner of his eyes and took the tray. “Well, well… at least you didn’t grab a biscuit and honey.” She laughed and nodded him towards the table she had in the corner near a large window. “You sleep all right?” She smiled and set the tray down and sat across from him where a nearly identical meal was sitting. She laughed. “It seems great minds think alike. Sit down and eat. Promised Ops I’d feed you. I don’t know about you, but I have no desire to cross him.” She laughed and tucked into the tray before her, glad she hadn’t eaten all ready.

Stores didn’t point out the fact that the replicators had made real eggs, sausage, toast and orange juice for her, not the resequenced stuff he had grown up on. “Slept well, thank you. Smiling, “and I have to agree, Hammor could palm my head and lift me to eye level. The idea of wall to wall counseling with him is less than appealing.” Poring himself a glass of the orange liquid. “I noticed some one blocked my access to Isaac’s brew, as well”

Setting across from him it was clear he wasn’t the young man she had assumed the morning before, grey peppered his hair, and the smooth skin of his face and arms was due to dermal regeneration. He had at least a decade on the science Officer.

“ I swear the new LT has taped the internal sensors, he seems to turn up when you least want him and most need him.”

Clinton ”Stores” Reed, supercargo

Priscilla never saw a kid. Just someone who burned themselves at both ends. “I agree on every point,” she laughed. “As to the replicator, that was my doing. I asked security to lock it and notify me when it was used. I didn’t want you grabbing a cup of stim and heading back to the bay.” She leaned back, her breakfast half eaten. “I know you are more than capable, Reed. I’ve seen your public file.” She smiled and continued. “It appears that you are being groomed to be his assistant. And if that’s the case, breaking down now because you push yourself too hard to ‘catch up’ on all these months of lacking… well it’s not going to do you or him or the ship any good.”

“ I considered putting the replicator in diagnostic mode and getting my coffee coffee anyway, but the CO has already made it clear what bypassing security protocols will get me.”

She took a sip of her tea, a cup she had beside the small carafe of juice on her tray. “The Science stock came in yesterday while you were sleeping. It’s all put away and stored and even got things that had been on back order for months. You are doing good. Don’t make me have to drag you off to your rack every shift end.” She laughed and took another sip of her tea.

“ Old habits die hard, M’am. Neither the Tortuga or the Vigilance has time to waste.” He had been making steady progress on his breakfast wile they spoke.” I am glad your supplies came in, word is it took a bit of arm twisting for him to get everything in such short order”
