The last I saw the Quarter Master the new Chief of Operations has him hanging from his thumbs” taking the the offered pad,”Let’s see what you need hear m’am, and we will make it happen.” Based on his orders concerning the other science department supplies he was sure he could get her hooked up, and probably threw proper channels.
“I do want to thank you for your people’s help M’am, took a minuet to get them up to speed but I couldn’t get this done with out them.” It was true, and he wasn’t the most diplomatic person when he was up against a deadline. Making a note to send a gift to them as he copied down the CSO’s list.
Clinton”Stores” Reed, Supercargo
As he takes note of the list, everything there is set already on the incoming manifests. It’s the identical list the Ops Chief had given him.
“I appreciate it.” It took her a moment and she frowned slightly.
“Wait… what did you say about the Quarter Master?” She raised her brows and smiled silghtly, her arms crossing over her chest. “Did you say the Ops Chief strung up the Quarter Master?” The edges of her lips curled up in a grin. “If you are serious, perhaps this new Ops Chief has potential. Most I have dealt with are pompous routes who care nothing for the ship and only about their own comforts and how little they can get away with doling out to keep us under their thumb.” There was a biting venom in her voice that leant no doubt to the fact she hadn’t known any good Ops Chiefs, or Quarter Masters, for that fact.

Laughing, “last I saw the two of them the Quarter Master was quite literally cowering in the corner, and I was told get the ship restocked. He also called me yesterday with the exact same list you gave me, and told me to keep an eye out for it. He wanted me to insure the labs were fully stocked before any of it went into the bunks. So judging from that and all the changes and adds I have seen in the last 24 hours, he is either the real deal or he is putting on one heck of a sham.” The truth was Stores wast sure he wouldn’t be stacking crates in the Corridors before it was all said and done, not only had he been given 48 hours to catch up the Chief increase their incoming Stores buy a wide margin.Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Priscilla couldn’t have been more obvious in her surprise if she had feinted. “He had the Quarter Master… cowering?” She actually covered her mouth to stifle the giggle. “Well then… and you said he’s already ordered my list? Then perhaps he is redeemable after all. Well, as there is a lack of supplies in Science so about 90% of that order is gonna fit in the department. And the rest is large sets for the storage area. And there is room in there as well. If you let me know when it gets here, I’ll send down some extra bodies.” She was smiling and looking around.
“No sense porting all those supplies threw the ship m’am, If I can do so personally I will make sure some one comes up so we can beam the pallets directly to the labs.”
“Maybe I do need to go see Ops and thank him.”
Priscilla
CSO“Don’t forget your inhibitors” Stores winked behind his visor Hammor can be a bit overwhelming.” The big grin spread a cross his face erased any signs of fatigue.
“If there is anything else you need let one of us know, if we can’t get it one way or another I will try my best to to manufacture it for you.” Something across the deck caught Stores eye and he let out a piercing whistle, then hit his com “Mind that, we don’t have time for an accident shutting us down!” Turning back to Priscilla, “Sorry about that, things are a bit hectic at the moment. As hard as ai try to keep cargo out of the shuttle bays, their are some things Olsen just won’t let me transport or bring in to bay 5. Then some fool is always trying to get himself killed…”
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“No need, just doing my job.” came a deep voice from behind them. The big frame if the Ops Chief came down a break between two big stacks of crates and checked off a PaDD and handed it to the Vulcan trying hard to keep pace. “Make sure those get to medical asap. And this time they sign for them, got it?” and the Vulcan simply nodded once and turned and left.
Hammor approached the CSO and Reed and said. “Hello Lieutenant. Fancy seeing you down here.” and he smiled politely and then said “But unless you are here to move cargo and are certified on the TH-79 cargo sleds, I’m gonna ask you nicely to please get the heck outta my cargo bay before you get squished. That’d be a true waste of personnel.” and he smiled wide and swing an arm in the direction of the door.
Hammor, Ops Chief
Priscilla had been about to respond when an almost familiar voice came from behind. “Chief, a pleasure.” The CSO replied and nodded to the room. “Impressive. I would say on any other ship, we’d be hard pressed to place this stuff anywhere. But if Science is anything to go by, we’re gonna be playing ‘put away’ for a while and just bringing things up to where they should be stocked to.”
At the threat of putting her to work or kicking her out, the yound woman took the latter. She turned to Reed and smiled, “It’s been a pleasure. And I’ll make sure there’s plenty of room for porting.”
Turning back to the Ops Chief, her smiled brightened just a touch. “I think I will choose the latter and depart. The idea of being ‘squished’ is not on my agenda for the day.” As she started to walk away, she turned and touched the large man’s arm a moment. Her smile, still bright, softened to something a bit different, her voice lowering a touch in seriousness, though still heard in the cacophany of the room. “And Chief… thank you. I mean that.” She looked him in the eyes, the best she could from nearly a foot below him, and then dropped her hand to go.

CSO
(godsmacked we have someone who knows what they are doing)He watched her leave, and when she was out of earshot he turned and looked at Reed. “Mr. Reed, I am hoping you didnt offer tours to the crew when I wasnt looking.” and he chuckled.
Hammor, Ops
“Those don’t start till 20:00 sir” never having the sense to leave well enough alone, Stores replied. “Whats on your mind, Chief?” His head on a swivel as equipment and personnel moved there the bay.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Actually… here to lend a hand. Oh, and the Quater Master is done. Until we get a new one, its us.” and the big Orion looked at the incoming materials, mentally checked the time against the schedule, and knew these were medical supplies. “I’ll get these last two tagged ones over to medical storage.” and the Orion walked over, bent at the knees and not the back, and then… Three hundred and fifty pounds just walked off the deck and back into the storage area.
Hammor, Ops
Man’s a beast! Stores thought as he stared a moment before going back to routing incoming cargo.
Despite the additional cargo, Stores and the crew had made up just shy of 2 days and were on schedule to be caught up before Beta shift went off in the morning.Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Rumors were still flying that the Dresden was leaving on mission buy the end of the week, and as Alpha shift came on to start day three Stores was really starting to feel it. He had reached out to some of his contacts at the star base to help him insure that everything they needed was not delayed, but in most cases Lieutenant Hammor had beaten him to the draw.
The shipwrights and armorers were still at it, testing systems and buttoning up maintenance hatches. And the occasional housekeeping team was seen with new wall or deck plating. He had sent one of their teem leaders a bottle of scotch and asked that he see to helping the Captain with her office and quarters. He owed her that much.
He had taken an hour to do his morning absolutions, eat and finish his reports to Star base One, telling himself he would sleep a few hours tonight. Now he was back at it, directing traffic and waiting in to help keep things on track. He had managed to snag extra drums of replicator goo, just to stick into any spare corner that may be left at the end, but he was beginning to think that they may well be left in the station warehouse when they pulled out.
Clinton ”Stores” Reed, Supercargo
((fixing the split))Stores had, against his better judgment sat down for breakfast, and had started his reports so he would be ready for beta shift going off. They were now ahead of schedule. He had worked the crews hard to meet Hammor’s deadline, but had been positively draconian in enforcing breaks, meals and sleep time for federation as well as civilian personnel but not for himself, he had worked strait threw for the most part, only stoping for the bare necessities. Now he as face down at a mess table, sound asleep. With a cold cup of coffee and a PPAD with the 1/2 written daily report to the commander.
The mess had cleared, wile alpha shift had just left him there.
Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
Priscilla could have used the replicator in her office but had chosen to come to the mess for a small tray of something to nibble on now that shift change was complete. Seeing the mess crew cleaning up around the sleeping Ensign, she nodded to them and came up beside the young man. He looked exhausted, but he needed to be in his rack, not on the table.
A gentle hand rested lightly on his shoulder as a soft voice called to him to wake up. “Ensign Reed… Reed… wake up, hun.” The term of endearment was habit and not even realized. While her hand gently touched his shoulder, she was also prepared for him to wake startled and was braced to keep him from falling or flailing out to strike her in his confusion.
Lt Priscilla Simms
CSOStores was out cold, and didn’t wake immediately, but as the lieutenant’s prodding he did. His reaction was instant and at the same time odd. He froze, his mind came awake but he didn’t even open his eyes i told he had orientated himself . Hearing the soft voice urging him to wake, and the sounds and smells of the mess deck being cleared, his eyes snapped open.
Setting up, he looked at the chief scientist. He was still hazy on exactly why he was face down in the mess hall. “M’am?” Then realization dawned on him and he came to his feet, reaching both for the PPAD and the cold watch cup. The cold coffe send down with a grimace. Sorry; M’am, Than You M’am” He stammered but I am late for my shift.”Clinton”Stores”Reed, Supercargo
“Ensign, I can almost see through you.” came a deep but familiar voice. Hammor had entered and had seen the exchange. His voice wasnt stern, though, and there was a slight smile on his face. “Go to bed, Mr. Reed. I got this shift. Get some rest, you’ve earned it.” and he stepped closer and looked down at the man. “No excuses. Just sleep. You’re no good to me squashed under a gantry, now are you?” and he put a large green hand gently on the man’s shoulder and ushered him towards the exit.
Hammor, Ops
Priscilla had been about to calm him when the Ops Chief had arrived. She snagged the PaDD from Reed’s hand and smiled. “And no more coffee.” She laughed and handed the PaDD to Hammor. “I promise you a great meal when you get up.” She watched Reed’s reaction and glanced out of the corner of her eyes at Hammor. Every time she met him, he was proving her past experiences with other Operations Officers to be less and less the norm. It was a bit unsettling and made her all the more embarrassed to have been curt and short with him on their first meeting.
