Being in the heart of the Federation, Stores thought better of his usual tendency to play fast and loose with the rules and dutifully waited in line to check of the Dresden and exited from the main airlock with the rest of the crew. Adjusting his sea bag, he walked down the umbilical and onto the station only to see two people in security gold looking at the disembarking crew and checking their PPADs.Spotting him just after he had seen them the young woman stepped forward “Mr. Reed” certainly not a question.
Eyeing her Stoney faced companion Stores thought hell if I,m going to spend leave in a cell, might as well have some fun “Depends who’s askin’, darlin’” trying his best to imitate Isaac’s southern drawl.
Without even a smirk or a scowl, the young woman responded “We’re here to see you don’t get lost, Mr. Reed. If you’ll come with us.” All the wile her companion had drifted forward to flank Stores.
Resigned to his fate, Stores shrugs.” After you, dear lady”.
Stores shortly finds himself on a shuttle to SanFrancisco and Starfleet headquarters. Good call stashing my kit on the Dresden stealing himself for what for him is anxiety filled descent into the gravity well, and a world of open vistas and blue skies.Exhausted, but finally free of his escort, Stores finds himself boarding a suttle back to Starbase one and hopefully back to the Dresden.
The last three days were gruling excersizes in patience. After the trip down he had found himself in the small waiting room of the Vigilance’s CO’s office. He shared the room with a young officer acting as the admirals secretary and a large, grey haired and imposing Klingon wereing the black and purple of Starfleet but with a white shirt and a Klingon imperial crest and a white sleeveless robe that looked like somthing from a B rate holo novel.
Despite the requisite ass chewing he received it was a pleaser to see the boss again. But the next two days with Starfleet Medical and A security debrief, he was not feeling the love. Add to that his insomnia, he was on his last nerve.
Despite having a recording of shipboard background noise and the subsonic vibrations that every ship has he just couldn’t sleep with the quite.
The gate personnel were pleasant as was the stewardesses and flight crew but not being fleet the process was much longer than had the trip down.
But as promised he had been given accommodations in the migrant workers suits, and had an interview with fleet logistics civilian counterparts tomarrow. Hopfuly, as he wasn’t qualified to serve as stay behind crew at this time they would take him as civilian liaison for the staybehind crew. The Admeral had assured him it was a formality, but who knows.
Not bothering to take off his boots, much less undress Stores collapsed on the bed and was gently snorring in a mater of moments.
Klaxons blaring in the bloody light of the emergency beacons, Clinton shoved the last of the kids from the nursery into the escape pod and slammed the hatch shut. Last pod away Clinton ran to the main airlock anteroom and struggled into his EVA frame. Or tried, for some reason it wouldn’t seat and seal. Panic was setting in when the containment fields failed and the atmosphere voided…
Jolting awake to the sound of his com sounding his wake up reminder, Stores lay still with his eyes closed. Struggling to slow his breathing he listened to the room, assuring himself he was indeed alive.
Setting up, Stores sits a moment with his head down clearing his mind. After a few moments he pulls off his boots and stands up to strip. Once the compression suit came off the itch set in. Tho one could wear them for days if needed a funk set in as did the itch. Walking over to the replicator he orders up a tube of Bonner’s and begins slathering it on.
After a few moments he steps into the sonic shower and begins to fantasize about a cup of Forgrave’s brew…
It took most of the week to wade threw the Bureaucratic crap, but as promised he was working on Dresden’s overhaul and refit. Tho his duties as liaison were not what he had expected.
Instead of just a slack position to bypass the rules and alow him to work wit the stay behind crew he was acualy expected to be a liaison. Dailey reports to Comander Miller were part and parcel.
So his day started with a wholly unnesisary EVA, but it was oh so enjoyable. Storing out the airlock and activating the jets to slew him 180 and push him away so he could see the ship.
The cargo bays had been emptied, personnel lockers and secure storage had been transfers to the station. The armorers had striped the arms lockers and removed the torpedoes. Her antimater and deuterium stores had been off loaded, and her work core and fusion reactors were cold.
At this stage she was opened up like some exotic flower. With current technology it wasn’t nesisary to pull the hull plates to expose the warp coils and primary plasma conduits, much less dismounting the navigational deflector dish. But under current doctrine the capability to maintain fleet ships in remote places where the vast amounts of cheap energy that make transporters and replicators oh so reliable. So tho the warp coils were being overhauled using the same technology that that the ship yards had used to originally lay down her hull, she was layed open so that technicians observe the proses with their own eyes.
The heavy lifting would take less than forty five days but the cosmetic and janitorial work would take as long as the primary systems. In about a fortnight the armorers would begin refitting the overhauled offensive and defensive systems and after that the interior systems would be fine to be addressed.
Truth be told, despite the action the ship had seen in the last three years, she was more than capable of serving nearly a decade before this work was critical. But who knows what the future holds, another war or gods forbid she find her self lost like the Voyager. So no corners cut.
So his day begins with a pleasant spacewalk just to see the big picture and get his head right befor he started his meeting s with the versus team leaders, and ending with his own report.Damned If I don’t look forward to restock, reload and rearm. Be good to just do what the cheif tells me to do. Damn sight easer to do it my self than it is to make sure someone else dose it right.

Another fine morning for an EVA and as a bonus overhauling the warp coils was in full swing, originally the shipyards had replicated them in sections and transporter welded the sections into a single assembly, making a much more robust and efferent warp coils than the previous generation that was replicated and the sections were individual sub assemblies mechanically attached to form the whole.
In the case of overhaul or repair a slightly different method was used. The shipyard replicators rebuilt the coils in situ, rebuilding the coils at the molecular level. This is the exact technology Stores himself had been experimenting with for in situ repairs of active plasma conduits with limited success.
Hanging there in space Stores watched what alerted to be video static as small particles of dust hit the containment beam, and the interplay if energies that make the small section of warp coil glow from within. To a spacer a beautiful sight.
The chrono blinked yellow in the upper left of the hud, and Betty informed him that it was time to get to his real work.
Reorienting himself Stores set a corse back to the personnel airlock he had left.
Another day closer to getting back to the easy life Stores thought as he waited for the airlock to pressurize.Clinton “Stores” Reed, Supercargo
The daily “crash report” was almost fun, if not exhausting to fill out. More so because Stores had two, the one he turned in to commander Miller and the one he planned to give to The EX would the need arise.
As of to day it would take two weeks to button up the Dresden and let her out of the dock and into space. The goal set buy Star Fleet was it the need were to arise the Dresden should be brought to 50% combat effective as soon as practical (the stated goal was two weeks).
To accomplish this work was scheduled in such a way that core systems could be restored as well as defensive and offensive systems in this time frame.
This lofty goal would suspend many safety protocols, and would depend on both the civilian ship Wright’s but also the recall of Dresdens armorers and engineers. Further the ship would be restocked wile Bothe the engineering crews and armorers crews worked on critical systems concurrently.
But Stores had another plan, one that took a bit more work to plan. Not only did he have Starfleet computers keeping track of Dresdens crew in an abstract way so as to have accurate recall estimants, he was tracking qualified personnel he could Shanghai to get her out of port at the same time 90% of her crew had been recalled.
Stores was also tracking Mars and Io shipyards schedules so as to make use of their facilities and much larger replicators and transporters.
The secondary plan was to button her up, and restock with in forty eight hours, then either tow or sail her to one of the shipyards to compleat a crash refit program.Combined with the larger scale equipment, the bolstered technical crew should be able to provide a 75% combat effective ship in half the time.
It wouldn’t be easy, especially convincing people his crazy plan would work, but his shipyard experience provided him with experience on how to utilize shortcuts that the shipyards economy of scale provided.
To the outside observer Stores may have looked like a madman in the throws of a fit, wile in-fact he was utilizing his WTR-600 with a modified binocular display as an interface to creat the reports on a PPAD with assistance from the station computers via a link with his com-badge .
With the use of custom software, the desplay provided him a verteral workspace that he could access anywhere.
Setting back to drink his now tepid coffee, Stores reveiws his work * not half bad for a Boomer, if ai do say so my self* he thought as he keyed transmition of the “Official. Version”.

Stores watched Sol rise over the edge of Terra. Funny how he never thought of it as Earth like his crew mates did. He had been awake for about 3 hours now, having drank a pot and a half of Isaac’s brew, and feeling the worse for it. Ordering up a a simple breakfast of fish and sinth eggs with spirea and toast he finessed outlining his reports. It was going to be a long day.
As seamed to always happen when he was under stress the night terrors we getting worse, and his ability to shake them off and go back to sleep was deteriorating as well. time to put in for a couple of days Stores thought. The notion to actually go planet side and check out Captain Halloway’s old haunts appealed to him. might just find something as a thank you Stores mused as he reached for his luke warm coffee…
