: : : : : : : : : : : : : : In an instant, the normally quiet Sickbay became a hall of horrors. The wounded from the Engineering Deck were pouring in, the air quickly filling with the smell of burned uniforms and seared flesh. The screams of pain were the quietest from those with the most pressing issues. An Engineering Ensign with her left leg tore off just above the knee and a Science JG that had a had a almost meter long 3 inch wide bar shot clean through his right chest. There were also three Crewmen, one male and two females, that were covered in terrible burns. Sadly, it looked as though only the youngest of the three… a female Petty Officer… hadn’t yet passed from her wounds.

: : : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : : Vock rushed from his office and shouted above the din. “Triage! Now!” he yelled at his staff. He then grabbed NE Sols the Charge Nurse on duty. “Tourniquet that amputation, 6cc ambizine and 5 of metorapan. See if we can get the leg. If we have it, get it in a stasis field. If not, prep for closure of the wound.” he said looking over the female ensign. He then turned to the impaled Science JG. “Stabilize the bar so it doesn’t shift and get scans of what organs are injured. Prep for emergency surgery. Surgical suite 2.” he quickly scanned the remaining incoming wounded. Pointing to the female Petty Officer, he grabbed a medic and said “10cc’s kelotane and get her burns covered with bio-gel. Pain management and sedation until we can address the burns.” He tapped his commbadge =/\= Vock to Bridge. Mass Casualties. Multiple injured and deceased. Damage report and estimated wounded needed asap. Vock out. =/\= Looking over the other two burn victims, he scanned for a pulse, respiration, and brain activity. Finding none, he simply pulled the sheet they were laying on over them and moved on.

: : : : : : : : : : : : Amelia’s voice came through the speakers. =/\= Acknowledged, stand by. =/\= On the background, the commotion on the Bridge could be heard.

: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : The Report that came in was grim. The damage to Engineering was significant and there were over two dozen personnel from the area that were missing. External sensors detected eight Starfleet comm badges outside the hull. Three more of the missing were unable to be detected within internal or external sensor range. It was likely they were vaporized on impact.

: : : : : : : : : : =/\= All Medical personnel report to Sickbay on the double. Trauma Teams report to Engineering for Search and Rescue operations. =/\= Vock said over the comms. He then turned to the Charge Nurse. “Continue triage and prep all needed for the surgery. Contact Security and have them send a team here to assist and keep people calm. Contact the Counselor as well. We will need her here to assist. I’m going to surgical bay 2 and will start with the impalement. No more than 90 seconds between surgical patients, understood? Make sure all scans are fed to the monitors in surgery. If you need assistance from me, use the sickbay comms. Deceased are to be kept out of sight of the injured. Let’s move.” and he spun away and headed to the surgical suite. The Charge Nurse began implementing Vock’s orders and contacted both Security and the Counselor. Vock put up the surgical containment field and began prepping for surgery.

: : : : : : : : : In the middle of the commotion, the comms sprang to life. =/\= Manning to senior staff. Report to the Captain’s Ready Room. Now. =/\=
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : (OOC: as in the current emergency scenario, the CMO is quite busy, they would most likely send some sort of representative. Feel free to do so. – Joana)

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : An unknown voice came through comms directly to the XO. =/\= Um, Ma’am? Dr. Vock is in surgery, and all medical personnel are really busy with the casualties. I can come, if you absolutely need someone from medical there. Oh, this is Crewman Third Class Boren, Ma’am. Sorry. I’ve only been here three days. Um, Ma’am. Sorry again. =/\= The nervousness and tension was palpable in the young enlisted crewman’s voice.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : CM3 Boren
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : The reply came swift and fast. =/\= Just send me a triage summary. We’ll be fine. Thank you Crewman Boren. Stay safe. =/\=

: : : : : :
: : : : : : The young woman with the severed leg was now screaming as the reality of her injuries began to become clear. “Oh my fracking god!!!” Her high pitched shreak tore through the Sickbay before she sobbed uncontrollably in a fit of hysterics. “Where is it!?! Where the frack my goddamn leg!?” She shook the stumb in tears. After a few moments she was starting to hyperventilate and trying to get off the bed.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Condor
: : : : :
: : : : : Vock stopped on the way to the surgical suite and put his hands on her shoulders, holding her down with is inherent racial strength. He looked at the Nurse and said “10 cc Ambizine, now.” He then turned to the young woman. He looked her directly in her eyes, holding her attention for the briefest moment. “Ensign. Stop. You are injured. You will be treated. And you will be fine, I promise you. But you have to be strong right now. There are others, your crew-mates, who are more seriously hurt. And I need to get to them. Hold it together, just for a little while longer. I will see you soon.” he said softly but firmly as the nurse ran over and put the hypospray on her neck. With a soft ‘hiss’, the sedative was injected into her blood stream. Vock held her a few moments more and, sure she was sedated, moved on.
: : : : :
: : :
: : : After a few moments of fighting it, the young woman collapsed back in the bio-bed. It seemed the combo of the hypo and stress burned her out.
: : :
: : : : : He entered the surgical bay and put on his surgical gear rapidly. The patient with the impaled bar in his chest was on the table, and the bio-containment field was active keeping out any further contaminants. Vock moved to stand next to the table and looked at the holographic model of the injury. The metal had pierced his right upper pectoral muscle, broke through his rib cage, and punctured his right lung. Pink, frothy bubbles came from around the metal, indicating that air was entering the chest cavity. Vock had to act quickly. Simply pulling the piece out would result in more trauma and a massive loss of blood, so Vock ordered a preliminary transfusion and antibiotic regimen to begin. He then brought in a surgical containment field and wrapped the metal’s exterior with it, using the field as a replacement for the metal itself. He gently removed the object, always watching to make sure it didn’t catch or tear anything within the young man. It took several minutes, but he was eventually able to free the metal from the chest. With the containment field in place, he could also see into the wound and begin to assess the damage and what repairs were needed.
: : : : :
: : : There was substantial damage to the young crewman’s insides, enough that the CMO immediately knew that if not for the containment field, he would certainly be bleeding out.
: : :
: : : : : First, he activated the surgical operations computer to begin cauterizing vessels and stopping the bleeding. As the small lasers moved through the wound, Vock watched as the patient’s blood pressure began to rise. The automated tools then began repairing the tears in the pleura. Vock suctioned out the excess fluid and ensured that the lung was expanding normally. After all the internal repairs were complete, Vock placed an osteogenic stimulator to help repair the broken ribs. He then closed up the wound with a dermal regenerator. Vock monitored the vital signs closely, and instructed the surgical attendant to give antibiotics to stave off any infection.
: : : : :
: : : : : Vock, CMO
: : : :
: : : No signs of infection could be observed by either the computer or CMO’s own eyes. Vock knew he was lucky but today, they won and the young man would make it.

: :
: : Vock nodded and turned to the triage nurse. “I’m done here. Amputation is next. Move her in immediately.” he said and changed into clean surgical gown and gloves. As she was moved in to the surgical suite, Vock activated the scans and looked at her baseline vitals. BP was low, to be expected as she had lost a lot of blood. She was also tachycardic… also expected as she was suffering extreme stress and trauma, even though she was sedated. Administering the appropriate full anesthetic, Vock activated the surgical operations computer and followed it’s progress. Once all the capillaries and vessels had been sealed off, Vock released the tourniquet and looked for any open ‘bleeders’. Using a hand laser, he sealed off the few remaining vessels. He then used a more powerful laser to remove the protruding bits of femur and made sure the femoral artery was intact. Once he was certain everything was stable, he flattened the end of the femur and made sure that there was a solid spot for the new cybernetic limb she would be sporting in the future to take purchase and connect to her neurological system. There was no logic in having to do another surgery just to do the two minutes of work necessary. He looked at her vitals and, seeing that her BP and heart rate had stabilized, placed a dermal regenerator on her leg. He closed the wound, ordered a full spectrum antibiotic regimen to address any potential infection and an anti-inflammatory to help with the edema at the surgical site.

:
: The next few hours were busy for Vock and company as injured poured in from across the ship, however, much to everyone’s relief… the amputation and impalement were the two worst non-fatal injuries. Sadly, three of those fatalities did make it to Sickbay but try as they might… the Medical Team woulds be unable to save the three crewmen.

Vock remained on duty until the very last patient had been stabilized and the minor injuries had been treated and the patients released. Standing at the center of the sick bay, he surveyed the room and reviewed the reports on those remaining in sick bay. Once he knew that all were accounted for and did not require his presence, he retreated into his office. Sitting down at his desk, he compiled a full report for the CO and XO. It was summed up with the following:
“Total patients treated: 84
Returned to Duty: 63
Expected to Return to Duty in Next 24 Hours: 16
Deceased: 5; 2 DOA, 3 Succumbed to Injuries in Med Bay (Name, Rank Attached in separate file for confidentiality)
Medical staff performed admirably across all sub-sections. Recommend Department Commendation for all Medical Staff.
Request material replenishment of expended supplies at next available opportunity. Needed items attached, listed by priority.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Seddk Vock, MD, CMO”
Vock reviewed the report, ensured it’s accuracy, and forwarded the report to the Captain and XO. He then tapped his combadge. =/\= Chief Medical Officer to On-Duty Medical personnel. Ensure all patient records are updated and conduct full inventory, all controlled substances cross referenced with records of dispensing. Send confirmation to me by end of shift. =/\= and then he paused for a moment and, in a very un-Vulcan like manner, said =/\= To all Medical Staff… You performed admirably, and you have my thanks. Vock out. =/\=
He then leaned back in his chair, activated the privacy screening on the windows to his office, and stared at his aquarium. There, in the privacy and solitude of his isolation, he allowed a single tear to fall from his eye as he remembered the faces of those he was unable to save. Faces he would never forget.
Vock, CMO
