With the Captain’s orders in her mind, Ellie begins running continuous scans on the warp core, making sure that the chronitons were not affecting the engine. She had another engineer monitoring the rest of the ships systems to ensure that they were no being affected.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Ensign Osten’s golden uniform stood out as he walked quickly through engineering, flanked by his partner, NE Astin. Scanning the room as he kept moving, Osten’s eyes eventually settled on Lieutenant Junior Grade Kleinhoffer.

Approaching, he called out, “Security check-in, everyone accounted for?” As division three officer, Wiles was responsible for security on decks 16 through 24 of the Dresen, which included main engineering. Perhaps he was being a little too cautious, but it was yellow alert, after all.

Ellie looked up “Problem?” She asked the security officers as she continued scanning the warp core and watched the other engineers.

Kleinhoffer (eng)

Wiles breathed out softly through his nose, a sign of slight impatient annoyance. “That’s what I was asking you,” he said in a measured tone.

“But,” he continued while turning away, “I’ll take your nonchalantness as my answer. Have you seen Lieutenant Commander Losc?”

(Ensign Osten, Security Division Three Officer)

As they spoke, a flash of light appeared, filling the room with a bright white light, and then disappeared. As their eyes readjusted, they would see a humanoid female, standing in front of the warp core, looking up at it curiously. She was dressed in a simple brown cotton dress, and her brown hair was wavy and hung loose down to her shoulder blades. Her appearance made her look rather primitive to be standing in Engineering on a starship.

Either she didn’t notice them or was preoccupied, as she continued to stare at the warp core, as if in awe.

Ensign Osten spun to face the intruder, his hand resting on the phaser at his hip, ready to draw but not quite willing to assume ill-intent from the woman in front of him. His left hand slowly reached up to press his comm badge as he stared at her, unblinking.

</> Osten to Ashur. We’ve got a visitor in main engineering. Not sure how she got in… shields are up, right? </>

(Ensign Osten, Security Division Three Officer)

=^=What kind of visitor Ensign? What are they doing?=^= Came the concerned reply.

Ensign Osten took a couple cautious steps forward to put himself between the strange woman and the other Dresden crew members in engineering. He made a point of relaxing his hand, which had tensed around the phaser on his hip.

=^= A woman in modest clothing, no sign of any technology or weaponry. At the moment… she seems to be inspecting the warp core. =^=

Wiles took a shaky breath before speaking out in a steady, diplomatic tone. “My name is Ensign Wiles Osten. You are currently aboard the starship U.S.S. Dresden of the United Federation of Planets. Please identify yourself.”

(Ensign Osten, Security Division Three Officer)

The woman turned and looked at Ensign Osten, a cold hard look in her eyes. She did not say anything but continued to stare at him.

Orin walked in at about that time.

“Anybody else feel that chill a moment ago or was it just me?” he asked.

It was a moment before Orin noticed that everyone had stopped what they were doing and were all looking in the same direction. Looking where everyone else was he saw Wiles and the plainly dressed woman.

Leaning close to Ellie…

“What’s going on?” he whispered.

At that very moment the ship rocked with the impact of the alien weapons fire. Main power went offline leaving them in darkness with the eerie lightning of the warp core as their only light. The emergency power seemed to be intermittent, with lights and consoles flashing.

The energy weapons seemed to overload several consoles, which exploded in showers of sparks and debris.

The woman, seemingly not phased by the attack, turned and walked towards the exit.
