Domingo eyes widened at the sensation that went up his leg. He had to then close his eyes and take a shuddering few breaths to steady himself. The sudden and unexpectedness of it caught him woefully off guard. He reigned himself back to a measure of composure fairly quickly, he opened his eyes to watch Katie focus on the shot glasses.
Reaching over to take her last shot, Domingo brought it to his mouth, slight tremor to his hand, before knocking it back and adding it to his others. He cleared his throat, feeling the shots and that added boost of endorphins, before replying, “The turned shot over glasses are like a trophy, sort of a measure of mastery. If you can’t flip them over and line them up neatly, well you didn’t have mastery of that shot.”

Katie noticed his reaction with curiosity and flushed an even deeper pink as she connected the dots to the lack of physical contact Chavez had likely experienced in the recent past. She could feel the effects of the alcohol making her looser and more relaxed, but she felt somewhat relieved that she still had her intellectual faculties about her. As he told her the reasoning behind the shot glasses, she stared at him slightly blankly and then laughed. “That’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard,” she observed, her laughter turning into delighted full body giggles. It took her a few minutes to get ahold of herself and she flushed pink again as she met Chavez’s eyes and then quickly looked away. Her eyes focused on the shot glasses and she moved one back toward her, fiddling with it in front of her as she pondered what to do next.

Domingo grinned as Katie laughed and giggled for awhile. He shrugged his shoulders out of habit, even though she wasn’t watching, before responding, “It’s a tradition passed down for centuries. The idea of having a drinking competition until the loser falls unconscious seems pretty dumb too.”
Domingo reaches forward for his last shot, takes a deep breath, and knocks it back. He exhaled away from Katie’s direction, letting that aftertaste and smell of tequila flow out. He turns his head back before flipping the glass and setting it in the row.
“Whew. Been a long while since I went a little overboard drinking.” He said while looking at his drinking companion, “Are you doing okay over there Katie?” Domingo asked while squeezing her hand to get her attention.
