Domingo looked on shocked after surprising Katie with his question as he didn’t think it was anything to choke over. He hurriedly reached for a napkin and held it out in easy reach for her to grab.“It’s been a whirlwind ride of activity with danger and combat aplenty. We’ve lost what seem like good people, but I find myself unable to mourn. I didn’t really know anyone.”

Katie accepted the napkin and used it to dab her watery eyes gently. “I understand that and, to a certain extent, it’s what you sign up for when you join Starfleet.” Her lips pressed together slightly as if she had more to say on the topic of Starfleet, but she quickly began to speak again. “Pop question - what’s your favorite meal?”
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
“Carne asada with fresh flour tortillas. A good scoop of guacamole on the side with some pico de gallo. I learned a bit of cooking from my abuela, but I can’t match her skill in the kitchen. I… wasn’t able to be there when she passed.” Domingo replied energetically before tapering off a bit somberly.

Katie gave Chavez a sympathetic smile despite how much her mouth was watering at his description. “That’s the life of Starfleet,” she observed, quietly. “It’s something that a lot of people struggle with the most, but thankfully, we do have so much technology to stay in contact. But, sometimes, it’s just not the same as an in person visit when your family needs you the most.” She looked down at her emptying glass and swirled the last bit of liquid at the bottom meditatively. “Do you have any other family?”
Lt Cmdr Nunn, CNS
“No, it had always been just her and I. My parents both passed shortly after my birth, though my grandmother never told my how. I know she always worried about me after I joined Starfleet. Even during most of my absent years I still found a way to reach out and let her know I was alright, but the last couple years must’ve been the hardest for her as I could do nothing. The best of technology wouldn’t have helped in this case, as I was on Earth but not allowed to be there, not even for her funeral.”
Domingo drained the rest of his glass and waved over the waiter, “Real tequila please, straight up.”
