As the helmsman entered coordinates, the Dresden, still leaking its life from its shattered belly, began to lumber forward. Picking up speed as the enemy ship vanished into the rift completely, there was a brief shudder as the leading edge of the ship made contact with the outer edge of the tear. Sensors were erupting with data. Photonic energy was off the scale, with massive levels of electromagnetic radiation. It was virtually identical to a transporter beam, but large enough to dwarf the Dresden as she continued to push through, engines straining against electromagnetic eddies and gravimetric shear. The viewscreen descended into a blinding blue-white light as she continued to push, and shudder through the rift like a shark swimming through cold butter.
Holloways commbadge signal had completely vanished as the enemy ship passed through the tear, but began to reassert itself as static passed across the viewscreen and the light began to dim slightly from blinding to glaring. Still a weak signal, there was no indication of where the signal was coming from within the ship. The viewscreen began slowly to resolve as the Dresden picked up speed, the shear shifting focus and pushing the vessel from behind, like a mother giving birth.
The first image that resolved on the darkening viewscreen was a gargantuan T shaped object drifting free in space, white fire flashing across its surfaces. Sensors showed massive quantities of photonic and electromagnetic energy pouring from the device into the rift, sustaining it. Clearly this was the source of the spatial rift.
As the last of the Dresden passed through, sensors shifted their tone slightly. They had been desperately pouring information in about the rift as they passed through. Now they warned of a far graver threat. Three Klingon birds of prey, four cruisers, seven Cardassian Galor class cruisers and a Negh’var class Klingon capital ship, as well as their much smaller foe to date, still emitting a weak commbadge signal. The ships arrayed against them, seemingly surprised at an interloper, began to slowly turn as shields were raised across their fleet, weapons powering.

Harris rose from his chair and motioned to the Comm Officer, his gaze icy cold. “Open a channel, all frequencies… on screen.” Tugging his tunic straight, the Marine stoically looked dead into the invisible lens and as soon as the Comm Officer nodded, Calvin spoke in a commanding… powerful tone no one on the ship had ever heard. He was no longer a ‘starship skipper’, he was… in every form and fiber… a senior-graded member of the Starfleet Marine Corps and a direct representative of the President of the United Federation of Planets.
=A= This is Colonel Calvin Alexander Harris of the Federation Battleship… USS Dresden. We are in pursuit of the vessel that preceded us through the spacial tear just moments ago. The vessel in question executed an unprovoked attack less than an hour ago on this vessel, resulting in significant loss of life and are viewed to have committed an act of /war/ against the United Federation of Planets. They have taken one of my officers and I /will/ retrieve her… at all costs. I am requesting assistance from every vessel in range of my voice, every commander that can see my face, to assist in bringing this fugitive vessel to justice and return my officer to my custody. Anyone assisting in this endeavor will be rewarded for their assistance, anyone standing in our way or defending these bastards will be destroyed. Dresden out. =A=
The Marine returned to his chair and began issuing orders in the same tone he was just speaking to the other ships. “Helm… maintain pursuit course, give the other ships a wide berth… we have no qualms with them unless they side with the bastards that took Holloway. Tactical… spin up all remaining torpedo tubes, full power to forward shields and standby on the phaser array. Comm… Send a Priority One Alert to all Federation assets in the Sector… Marines… Intelligence… Section 31… bring the Goddamn Cavalry. Command needs to know what’s going on. Science… I want to know /exactly/ where and… when… we frackin’ are as well as range to the nearest Federation Ally. Engineering… continue Damage Control ops and get our asses back to as close to full strength as possible ASAP and for the love of God… don’t lose Captain Holloway’s signal!”
Then Harris turned to the Security Chief and said flatly. “Chief, get your three best men and meet me in Transporter Room One in five minutes. Arm up with ballistic weapons… I recommend the H&K MP7 along with a 45 caliber sidearms…” He tapped a few keys on his chair arm. “… you now have authorization to replicate all needed weapons for this mission. I don’t give a damn who they are or who they frackin’ represent. I want every son of a bitch on that ship that isn’t Captain Holloway dead in the next half an hour… do I make myself absolutely clear Lieutenant?”
Harris, CO
“Yes sir.” Hannibal stated then inputed the orders into the computer.
ANTI-CO AWOL Bumpity!
The ensign at the operations station chimed up, concerned “but Sir! Those ships are moving into an attack formation! Their weapons are charging and they’re not answering your hails. The nearest Birds of Prey will be within weapons range in twelve seconds!”
‘When..where..allies..Halloway..’ Garcia ran the list through his thoughts, trying to keep up with the demands. Muttering under his breath, the science officer checked the LCARS for any indication of the date, meanwhile sending out a scan to pinpoint their location or any markers, Federation outposts or allies that might hint towards it. He didn’t have time to sit and wait for the results. Switching gears, Garcia checked the sensors he’d previously gone over for Halloway’s signal. It was a lot to ask of the ship’s computers, but he hoped for some answers.
NE Garcia, Science
There was no detectable change in her signal strength, but the entire area was blanketed with electromagnetic radiation, completely jamming any comm signals. However, prior to that beginning, sensors had detected - or rather failed to detect - any long range subspace communications relays to Starfleet. There should have been at least four within range to boost their communications and the ships comm systems maintained background contact regularly to synchronise astrological clocks and positioning data. Nothing could be detected. There should also have been at least one starbase within range that they’d have been able to contact, but sensors couldn’t detect it, even at extreme range.
OOC: Yup, that’s all on me… We had a fella working for one of my clients have a major vehicle wreck before the weekend and it’s eaten up my life trying to get everything covered in between some charity stuff I had to take care of and my church deciding i’m Salmand Rushdie…
SGM
OOC: Welcome back Andrew! No worries. As I said when we talked earlier, we’re just glad to have you back! I’ll hold until everyone has a chance to respond, maybe post around Thursday.
Condor
I’m gonna bump this one more time and I’ll move things along as best as I can come this weekend.
Sorry guys,
CondorOOC: Looks like we’ve all had some issues lately. At least none of us need to feel guilty about it :P. I’ll wait till friday? See if we can get some folk to give input before we shuffle things along a little

Sitting on her chair, Amelia watched the action unfold through the viewscreen. She had thought about asking Harris whether he wanted her to drop by Engineering and help with the repairs, however, she felt it was best if she remain on the Bridge. She was aware of the relationship between Harris and Holloway, and she was aware of what the Marine could do to protect the CIO. He couldn’t blame him… Manning would do the same for Peter. In fact, she was extremely grateful he had left the Dresden prior to this whole mess, and she tried not to think about whether or not she would ever see him again. In the end, Amelia decided it was best if she stayed put on the Bridge. If they found Holloway, there was no telling what state she would be in. Harris would need her by his side, and she would need to keep the Marine in check, before he did anything he would regret.
Turning to the science station, Amelia asked in a warm yet assertive tone. “Ensign, any news on our current location and on the position of our allies?”
Lt. Cmdr. Manning, XO
“Nothing as of yet,” Garcia returned, “there does appear to be a bombardment of electromagnetic radiation. It’s completely jamming our comms systems..but even before that, scanners were failing to detect any long-range communications. There are no signs of nearby starbases, even at furthest reach.” He rose his head to meet Manning’s gaze, “wherever we are, I doubt it’s in close proximity to anything Starfleet.”
NE Garcia
Harris tapped a few keys on the Command Console. Rising from the Centre Chair, he turned to his Executive Officer. With the same icy tone he had spoken in the all channels broadcast moments before, the Marine flashed dispassionate eyes at the young woman. “Commander Manning, you have the Bridge. Keep trying to raise Command. If we’re not back in an hour, break for home… Maximum Warp. We can’t let those bastards get their hands on the Dresden.” He then unsnapped the safety strap over the back of his sidearm and walked with purpose to the lift.
Hannibal followed the Colonel.
Amelia nodded. She knew there was no point in arguing with the Marine. “Aye, Sir.” Manning’s gaze didn’t linger on Harris. She knew his orders were something he needed to give, that she needed to know what to do in the unlikely event that the exploring party would not return. Instead, moving to the center chair, she looked steadily at the view screen, trying to make sense of the images coming through.
As the doors hissed open, Calvin called back to her. “Amelia…” When her eyes found his, the ship’s First Officer would see something else in them as he lowered his hand from blocking the lift door. It was the unmistakable look of goodbye. “… it’s been honor serving with you.” A moment later, the doors hissed shut and he was gone.
This time, as she turned to face the Dresden’s Commanding Officer, there was something different. It was as if Harris truly believed he was not going to making it. With a warm smile, Amelia nodded. “You will be back in an hour, Sir. Good luck.”
A second later, the ship’s computer announced flatly throughout the Bridge. =A= Command of USS Dresden transferred to Acting Captain Amelia Manning. Command Codes of Colonel Calvin Alexander Harris, deactivated.=A=
Harris, Marine on a Mission
Amelia took a deep breath, trying to ignore the fear trying to creep up her body. Harris knew what he was doing. He was also a stubborn Marine in a quest to find the woman he loved, leaving behind a terribly crippled ship. She shook her head trying to dismiss the intruding thoughts.
Finally, she spoke. “Ops, I want a lock on Colonel Harris’s signal at all times as well as a lock on everyone he’s taking with him.”
Turning to the Science station, Manning spoke to the Ensign manning it. “Garcia, I want a full analysis on the electromagnetic radiation. What’s causing it, where is it coming from, and can it tell us anything about where we are? What are sensors telling us on that… thing.” She said pointing at the massive T shaped object dominating half the viewscreen. “Also, is there anything out there, star, planet, galaxy, anything at all that can give us a hint as to our location?”
With her eyes firmly on the view screen, Amelia tapped her commbadge =/\= Bridge to Engineering, status report on the repairs. =/\= Right now they had pulled the extensively damaged Dresden through what seemed to be a space rift of some kind. If they were going to face the army of ships surrounding them, she needed to know what they were counting on.
